It does not assume the assessing social worker to have any specialist knowledge of dogs, but they should be familiar with the Good Practice Guide, Dogs and Pets in Fostering and Adoption (Adams, 2015) available from http://www.corambaaf.org.uk/bookshop/book/dog-and-pets-gpg. Completion of this assessment form should indicate whether advice should be sought from someone with an expertise in dog behaviour and psychology. One form should be used for each dog.
