Wagging School Dog Format There are 7 major topics being offered in 2015. One topic will be covered each month, from May to November. Each major topic will be introduced by an Intensive, a one-day session, scheduled for 10 am to 5 pm on a Sunday. This is designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the topic, with both breadth and depth. This will be followed by a 2-hour Seminar on a Monday evening, from 7pm to 9pm. The purpose of the Seminar is to take one aspect of the topic and go into it in more detail. This will extend your knowledge if you have attended the Intensive. However, it will make sense as a stand-alone topic if you do not attend the Intensive. Then there will be a Skills Workshop, to be held from 2 pm to 5 pm on a Saturday afternoon. This is specifically designed to give you the opportunity to get some hands-on experience with your dog, putting some of the methods introduced in the Intensive and Seminar into practice. Some topics will also have associated Hands-on Practical Courses, which you can attend. These are particularly suitable for instructors (whether trainees or experienced) who can experience being in a class which they are going to teach, explore alternative ways of a particular exercise, and gain instructing skills. The Practical Course will involve both doing it and workshopping how to do it - for example by participants handling each other's dogs rather than just their own, and by having turns at instructing for a segment of the class. So you can experience a 4-week or 8-week course in real time. The course will incorporate the ideas and methods that are covered in the Intensives, Seminars and Skills Workshops. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 7-30 pm to 830 are available for these courses. Other times may be negotiated for Clubs and other schools wanting customised programs. reward-based become a pet dog specialist alternatives to punishment positive and more: the Whole Dog understanding your dog puppy and socialisation RALPH the Rambunctious Adolescent Lunging Posturing Hound
Wagging School Dog Putting your program together NOTE #1: if you are a Club, or rescue organisation, and can organise 6 to 8 participants, we can run a Practical Course tailored for you, at a time that suits you. I can also advise you on which Seminars and Workshops will best complement your needs. NOTE #2: dog lovers, trainers and enthusiasts are busy people. Clubs usually meet on Saturday or Sunday, and sometimes on week nights. Trials and shows are usually on weekends. Some people have day jobs! Professional trainers tend to work "after hours" to fit in with clients. In the past, people have often said "I would love to come to your Seminar but I <work, teach puppy class, have xxx, am booked for an interstate show etc.> on that date. Will you be repeating it on a <Saturday, Sunday, week night etc.>" People are very time- poor. That is why we are offering this flexible Modular Program: If you can commit to an intensive program, over the whole year, you will experience an amazing learning curve! The program for the whole year is designed to fit together. The program will give you an in-depth foundation in reward-based and behaviour. This will stand you in good stead for any specific application. If you want to become a highly qualified instructor, you should have this foundation, as well as gaining the specific detailed methods needed for teaching puppies, young pet dog basics, adolescent dogs and further levels. If you have a specific interest (e.g. puppies, but not unruly adolescent dogs, or vice versa) you can focus your efforts on the month devoted to that topic. If you want to increase your knowledge and skill, but more selectively, and not so intensively, you can "cherry pick" topics of interest. Put together your own program - a seminar here, a workshop there. Some parts of the program emphasise hands-on experience, while others are more knowledge-based. I have tried to offer a balance of theory and practice. I know some people find theory a pain, but I would encourage you to increase your knowledge of how and why we do things, as well as just what we do. reward-based become a pet dog specialist alternatives to punishment positive and more: the Whole Dog understanding your dog puppy and socialisation RALPH the Rambunctious Adolescent Lunging Posturing Hound
