The club is responsible for different Spitz breeds (Wolfsspitz, Japanspitz...) and for some reason also the Icelandic Sheepdog. Of the total 161 members only about 6-10 members are owners of Icelandic Sheepdogs. This is an estimated figure as the club does not keep a record on the breed each member owns. Normally only owners, who wish to breed, join the club. Our efforts, to convince breeders to sell their puppies including an one-year-membership to the club were not succesful. Events No important events in 2012. 2013 was until now an interesting and important your for us, as the Icelandic Sheepdog was featured by the UH Unser Hund, the official monthly magazine of the Austrian Kennel Club (ÖKV). A picture of an Icelandic Sheepdog was on the front page additionally to 2 A4 pages of information and pictures about our breed with an poster of the ISD on a double page in the middle opening of the magazine.find a pdf of the report attached. Litters of Icelandic Sheepdogs in Austrian There was only 1 litter of ISD in Austria 2012 with low inbreeding, which is good. Sadly we have 1 litter in 2013 with very high inbreeding with 9,6%. Even several personal telephone calls and long conversations did not help to change the breeders mind. Looking at the development of the last years we can see, that there have been no litters between 2001 and 2010. With the last 3 years (2011-2013) have been 5 litters with a total of 23 puppies. This is a lot of ISD for the Austrian market having in mind, that the breed is little known in our country. Most of the young dogs go to families with or around icelandic horses or horse farms. Further comments to Imports: It is ruther difficult to follow up with the imports of Icelandic Sheepdogs as it is not necessary to register to the studbook of the Österreichischer Klub für Spitze und Spitzarten unless for breeding. So quite a lot of dogs are with FCI registration but not Austrian registration. Exports: Due to a lack in any breeding activity in the period of 2002-2010 there have been no exports in this time. Today most of our dogs stay in Austria but some are exported to, Germany, mostly the south of Germany due to personal contacts of breeders there. Breeding dogs have to have a Zuchtzulassung (breeding licince) in Austria which they only get with hipp examination and eye examination (valid 24 month). Minimum age for breeding is 24 month. Health Due to very little breeding activity only few dogs were x-rayed for HD and the documentation of the outcome might have been better in the past. Eye examinations were not requested for breeding until 2011, so there is no data existing. HD and eye examinations: Eye examination 2013 2012 2011 ISIC Annual Club Report Austria October 2013 page 6
