Section R2 (13 marks) Read the passage and answer all the questions. Pet Rabbits Rabbits are the third most popular pet in the UK, after dogs and cats. They are good pets for adults and older children. Rabbits don t like noise so they are not good pets for young children. Many people only keep one rabbit, but rabbits don t like being alone. They prefer to live with one other friendly rabbit. Many people think rabbits are easy to care for, but this is not true. They need to eat the right food. Rabbits sometimes like fruit and vegetables, but it is more important that they eat grass. They need a place to sleep or hide and a place to run and explore. If a rabbit jumps high in the air and turns its head and feet, it means it is happy. This is called a binky. If a rabbit is scared, it will growl like a dog. A normal rabbit is between 20 and 50 cm long. The world s biggest rabbit is a Continental Giant rabbit called Darius. He is 132 cm long, weighs over 22 kilos and is only five years old. Pet rabbits often live for eight to ten years but the oldest rabbit was eighteen years old. Rabbits are great runners. With their long, powerful legs, they can run up to 50km per hour! For questions 1 3 please answer in complete sentences (2 marks each) 1. Why are rabbits not good pets for young children? 2. What food should rabbits eat? 3. How big do rabbits usually grow?
