It has been a busy 2 years. There have been great CE meetings, 2 annual conferences which were well attended and informative and a number of things behind the scenes. The outreach committee is working to increase the number of low cost spays and neuters being done, has developed a pamphlet outlining the need for veterinary care and outlining the real cost of surgeries such and spay and neuter. REVMA is assisting the veterinarians participating in the spay and neuter program by providing clients with discount coupons for an annual exam 1 year after the spay or neuter and will reimburse the practitioner $25.00 per coupon redeemed. An assistance program for worthy pets is being started through the AVMF. Each AVMA/REVMA member who sets up a foundation for their hospital (the AVMF does this at no charge) will be given a portion of the money set aside for the purpose of helping those in need with their pet s care. We are investigating ways to bring new veterinarians into REVMA, such as a member bringing a non-member to the meeting and having new persons on the outreach committee to recruit new members. The one thing we have not had- is interest in joining the board. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, it is not too late. Young or old, REVMA would welcome your help and input. REVMA Community Outreach Committee update report: Well, we cannot say that we have been moving at break neck speed,but we are making a difference toward our goals of reaching out to the homeless with pets, a few specific non-profits and working on a medical assistance program to be administered by individual participating Veterinarians, for those in need with unforeseen medical needs and emergencies. Here are a few updates on our progress: Spay/Neuter Voucher Program: We have 14 participating veterinarians. They are actually listed now on the website for Love Me Fix Me of the Sonoma County Animal Services. Check it out. Funding has been less through the Community Fund, but the program is still going forward with the County. They now have a new committee outreach person, Monica Argenti whom I have been working with. We will continue to examine the program and appreciate any feedback/ problems participants are experiencing. Brochures will be published soon and dispersed to all Veterinarians members and non-members to publicize the availability of this program. I am sending an attachment for your preview. Coupons for discounts on follow-up exams for these new clients funded by REVMA will be coming soon to all participating members of the Love Me Fix Me program. If you have a no show Adriana Lopez 565-7109 would like to be notified. She is the scheduler. Also, if your hospital in particular has a Spanish speaking employee present at all times please let her know. This will greatly help her scheduling. Programs with the Homeless with Pets & Compassion without Borders: Pete Henriksen and Kim Henry have been working with these groups. Gillian Squirrell (homelesswithpets.info) has been working tirelessly in getting a small trailer set up in strategic areas to assist those homeless with pets. They have been meeting 4 times a month and Dr. Henriksen has been assisting. If you would like to know more about this program contact him. I have enclosed a copy of their schedule for those interested in volunteering some time? Pete and Kim have also been volunteering with Compassion without borders. Please contact them to learn more about what they have been doing and schedule. More to follow. Medical assistance for those in need: We are very exciting about a new program presented by the board. They will be presenting the details and how to sign up. It looks like a win-win for all and a means for a program which is already set in motion for individual hospitals to incorporate a 501c3 non-profit. The AVMF Charitable Care Fund has been around for some time and looks like a great way for Hospitals to provide subsidized care for those in need of medical care without having to re-invent the wheel. Please check the website American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) Charitable Fund (AVMF.org/care) This program will also allow our REVMA association to donate money to individual hospitals who are participating in the program. This information will also be included in the upcoming brochure for donations to be accepted into this program by your clients or whoever to your hospital! Outreach For new Veterinary Members: One of our goals for next year is to develop a packet to get out to all non-members to educate them on our outreach and what the REVMA organization is doing in the coming year outside of CE. A second Goal is develop a public relations plan to advertise these REVMA programs. If you have any insight as to how this committee can be more effective please don t hesitate to contact us. New members to the committee are welcome. Our meetings are every two months to coincide with the REVMA board at Pet Care West. Time is arranged on meeting basis. In light of this, the REVMA (Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association) asks the following: That the increase in the licensing fee of unaltered pets be delayed until 16 months of age, that is, at the rabies booster of the yearling pet. (RV at 4 months, then at 12 months neuter, then they would be altered by 16 months when the next payment for licensing would be due, if not altered- impose the greater fee at that time).
