An exciting day 5 10 15 20 25 30 Bye Have fun Poppy s dad called out as he left in the car. It was Poppy s first time in artmoor ational Park without her mum and dad. She was happy that her friends ia and Philip were with her and her dog Barney too. When they came to the rocks on Rippon Tor, they sat down and wanted to eat their snacks. They could see for many kilometres around them. Barney wanted to play, but the kids were tired of the game he always wanted to play. Barney umped and barked. kay, okay said Philip. ne more time, Barney Ready Go He threw the stick down the hill as far as he could. Barney ran down the hill and out of sight. ow we can have a break said ia. The three friends ate their sandwiches and watched the artmoor ponies on the next hill. The last time we came here, the ponies were very near, Poppy said. And there were some baby ponies too. They were so cute on their little legs. When Barney came back, he didn t have the stick. He took the leg of Poppy s eans in his mouth and pulled. Poppy got angry and shouted, Stop it, Barney Bad dog Barney barked at the kids. I think he wants to show us something said ia. Let s follow him. They came to the top of a slope. Barney looked down and barked again. The kids looked down the slope too. They saw an animal a pony It looked up at them, but it didn t move. I think it s hurt said Philip. Come on said Poppy. Let s go down there. The slope was very steep, but they climbed down. The pony wasn t very big. Barney was excited. Stay back, Barney, Poppy said. When the kids went near the pony, it tried to get up, but it couldn t. They saw that it had blood on its leg. The poor thing, ia said. We have to get help. Poppy called her dad on her mobile phone, and he called the ranger station for help. Five minutes later, Poppy s mobile rang. It was the park ranger. She asked Poppy about the pony. Poppy gave her all the information. Thank you, Poppy, she said. We ll be there in half an hour. The kids waited. After a few minutes the ranger arrived with three helpers. They came down the slope to the kids and the pony. The ranger was very friendly. She gave the pony food and medicine. Then they helped the pony to get 50 up. They couldn t climb back up the slope to the trail, so they led the pony across the fields. Barney and the kids followed them. It was a long, slow walk back. When they came to the road, Poppy s dad 55 was there. Will the pony be all right he asked. es, the ranger answered, but only because you called us in time. So... thank you. Thank you all We have to thank Barney, Poppy said. e 60 found the pony The ranger and her helpers put the pony in a horse trailer. They shook hands with the kids and with Poppy s dad, and they shook Barney s paw. Barney wagged his tail and gave them a friendly 65 bark. Then they left to take the pony to the animal clinic. The others got in the car and went home for dinner. 35 40 45
