Lots of varieties listed in Ken Statham's Essential Guide noticed, as well as shades and interesting postmarks (including London 32 and 42 in Diamond). Cat 7,700+ and initially valued at 1,450. Excellent basis for expansion at 1200 1

GENERAL LINE ENGRAVED D1519 Attractive Hagner page of 19 2d Blues. Plate 3 x 10, Plate 4 x 5 Some 4 M incl spectacular looking Plate 3 EH with Lovely MX (Cat 275), plus 5 others together with perforated Plates 8, 9 x 2, & 15. Some postmark interest as well. Total cat 1,568. Nice lot for 175 D1520 QV 2d Blues - Small but nonetheless very interesting selection of 2d Blues Imperf and Perf. Imperf Plate 3 pair EK-EL, margins nearly all round, just touching left side of EK, tied to piece by two lovely Maltese Xs. Faint horizontal filing crease hardly detracts. Plate 4 Perf SG 19 RE centred a little low but lightly cancelled. Then 3 examples which all appear to be SG35 Plate 6 (L.C. P 14), one lettered KL tied to neat piece by upside down Dundee Experimental cancel for JA 2 1858, then FC tied to neat piece by sideways Duplex & a small part of pen cancel (at base), the third a lovely single lettered TA. Superb little lot. Minimum cat 700+ 125 D1521 Mixed Line Engraved Inverted watermarks 3 x 1d Red Imperf (1 x Alpha 1 Plate 99, 2 x Alpha 2 Plate 164), 1d Star White Paper (Plate 44) & 4 x 1864 1d Plates (71, 86, 101 x 2). Not very good condition; the unplated Imperf is 3 margin but cut across one letter square, 1d Star is reasonable as is one of the 1d Plates. Representative copies. Total cat value is 1,250 75 1d IMPERFS MIXED PLATED/UNPLATED E1522 7 with Maltese Crosses- 5 plated & 2 unplated. Stamps have been plated by a reconstructor (not guaranteed). From accompanying list only 12 Plates missing between 132 and 173. The plating not guaranteed and notes are separate so could be treated as completely unplated, but apparently, includes many useful plates such as 88, 103, 104, 106, 113, 118, 119, 137, 139, 146-148, 158, 159, 161-168. Plenty of postmarks and shades which makes up for the usual mixed condition of this sort of quantity. A must at just 225 E1527 35 on Black Hagner stock sheet, 3 have Maltese Cross & 32 x 1844 with many 4 margin. Plating not guaranteed but by an experienced source and included on separate list.. Some slight duplication but difficult plates noted such as 40 (MX), 106, 111, 113, 116 etc as well as good postmarks e.g. Scottish 46 for Blairgowrie and 217 for Largs Good Lot 150 E1528 16 x Alpha I Imperfs plated 1844 cancels. Specially selected as mainly 4 margin & from 14 E1529 E1530 different plates between 43 and 95. Plating is not guaranteed but from an experienced source. 90 27 x Alpha I plated with 1844 cancels. Approximately 32 different plates which include some of the more difficult plates such as 106, 108, 110 and 122. Although plating is not guaranteed they are from an experienced source. 200 1d IMPERFS UNPLATED The following 6 lots of Imperf Maltese Cross & 1844 cancels come from a large stock of UNPLATED LINE-ENGRAVED 1d & 2d Values (see also Perforated Section). Should provide a genuine opportunity for the study of these interesting stamps. F1531 F1532 56 Unplated MX Several 3-4 M. All appear platable. Incl obvious varieties, early plates & possible Distinctive Crosses. Should reward plating. 175 56 Unplated MX Several 3-4 M. All appear platable. Should reward closer inspection at just 200 G1544 G1545 70 unplated -69 with 1844 cancels. Mixed condition but many 3/4 margin incl about 13 better quality. None have been plated & 5 from Q Row all have 831 numerals for Wakefield & might be from the same sheet! Other pmks noticed so should reward closer inspection and plating at 125 4 very good looking with variety P converted to R (hand cut tail) all 3 margin plus, 2 are 4 margin, very slight faults hardly noticeable. Stated to be Plate 30 RF and RJ, Plate 31 RF, Plate 33 RA. Quite difficult & very nice looking with varieties clear. Total Cat 635. 165 2

1d IMPERFS PLATED RECONSTRUCTIONS etc - continued The following 6 lots are partial reconstructions from the late Ken Statham's collection. Although the stamps were selected by Ken for their plating quality rather than margins, they do contain many nice examples. Most have margins of some sort including 4 Margin and we notice that Ken has not tried to identify Distinctive Maltese Crosses. Most of the lots appear to have some very interesting unidentified crosses as well as varieties. We are pretty sure that they will be 100% plated correctly and represent a great opportunity to learn why Ken allocated them to the particular plate. Why not see if you can identify the individual characteristics G1537 Plate 16 46 stamps, Plate 17 26 stamps, Plate 18 19 stamps. Total Cat from 6,540. Good Value at less than 5% of Cat. 325 G1538 Plate 19 165 stamps from AA to TK. Total Cat from 9,095. Approx 5% of Cat 495 G1539 Plate 20 133 stamps from AA to Tl. Total Cat from 7,315. Less than 5% of Cat 350 G1540 Plate 32 34 stamps from AC to TK, Plate 33 73 stamps from AG to TC. Several Very Interesting Crosses. Total Cat from 5,885. Good Value at approx 5% of Cat. 325 G1541 Plate 34 53 stamps. Total Cat from 3,189. Good value at approx 5% of Cat 165 G1542 Plate 36 63 Stamps from AA to TJ. Total Cat from 3,780. Good value at approx 5% 195 G1546 Imperf 1d Red Plate 27 MX. Old style plating book containing 339 stamps with MX attributed to Plate 27 but not checked. Although some stamps have been removed it would form a good basis for a reconstructed plate. Several have varieties, incl Re-Entries and appear unchecked for Distinctive Crosses. Nos 3,5,7,8,9 & 10 in MX are included. Condition is mixed but many 4 Margin and virtually nothing less than 3 Margin Cat in excess of 18,600. Worth closer look at less than 6.5% Cat. Made it 1,500 Bargain at 1200 G1547 41 x Plated/Unplated Maltese Cross from a reconstruction which was unplated mainly 3 to 4 margins with some perfect from letterings EK to JG. Most of others have slight faults but very presentable. The stamps have now been plated and although not guaranteed are by an experienced plater. We note plates 17 (1), 18 (1), 19 (15), 40 (1). Absolute Bargain at 150 G1548 41 x Plated/Unplated Maltese Cross from unplated reconstruction, mainly 3 to 4 margins with some perfect from letterings OI to TB. Most of others have slight faults but very presentable. The stamps have now been plated and although not guaranteed are by an experienced plater. We note plates 5 (1), 12 (1), 14 (1), 18 (3), 19 (11), 37 (1), 39 (1), 40 (1), 44 (1) Huge cat value. Bargain at 180 G1549 Attractive lot of 23 1d Red Imperfs including a vertical strip of 4 and 4 pairs. Most 3/4 margin or better with many of the singles having identifiable characteristics. Amongst these we notice a nice number 2 in cross (4M) Cat 140, Plate 119 on Lavender Tinted Paper, superb 4M example, just a slight scissor cut at NW Cat 225, Blue Maltese Cross Cat 550 but 2 margin, and a 3 margin copy with Black Town Cancel and Maltese Cross. The multiples are in excellent condition and one is plated as 131, which is not common in multiples. A lovely lot. 200 G1550 Two album pages with some quite interesting Imperfs, which includes a reasonable block of 6 attributed to Plate 71 Cat 300 as a block of 4. Plate 28 pair, Plate 14 tied to piece, plate 17, Plate 85 Major Re-entry, Plate 29 Double Letter, Plate 20 Vertical Guide Line, 2 pairs and a single from Alpha 2 (unplated). Although not 4 margin or checked by us, a very useful lot at just 100 The following 5 partial reconstructions of Alphabet I, all come from the same source. They have been collected and plated over a period of 40 years & include some multiples as well as many Fine 4 Margin copies. They would form an ideal basis for expanding to completion. We would expect a high degree of accuracy from this collector though we have not checked them for ourselves, we can see varieties etc. listed in Ken Statham's Essential Guide. An individual description is given for each lot. Please remember that we give a discount of at least 10% for the purchase of two or more lots and payment can be spread over up to 12 months. G1551 1d Red Imperf Plate 30 Small interesting partial reconstruction of 35 letterings difficult plate all with Maltese Cross. Although most of the stamps appear to have slight defects many are good looking examples. This is added to by the presentable strip of 8 from the T Row, TB to TI with margins on 3 sides and in places at the top (the longest strip I can remember seeing from this plate), lovely looking strip of 4 OI to OL, margins close above NW square OI and touched and slightly cut into on side of OL, otherwise very good. It would make a superb pair, or attractive trio, or, as it is, a very difficult multiple of 4 from this scarce plate. Also, a good looking 4 margin copy with almost upright number 4 in Maltese Cross (has a pinhole) and at least two other stamps with varieties listed in Ken Statham's Essential Guide. The Cat value of 3,850 (QV 14 th G1552 Edition) ignores multiples, varieties and numbers in cross. Excellent lot for the specialist. 500 1d Red Imperf Plate 61 A superb partial reconstruction comprising of 190 stamps, which includes 5 pairs, a vertical strip of 3, strip of 4 (horiz), 2 blocks of 4 and at least 2 re-entries. Majority are 4 margin examples; those that are not 4 margin are generally at least 3 margin. Many appear to show characteristics that cross-reference to Ken Statham's Essential Guide, so it would suggest that the plating is above average as well. Based on quality, condition and multiples etc this is a superior part reconstruction and a very good basis to expand on. Minimum Cat value is 5,800. Excellent value at 595 G1553 1d Red Imperf Plate 69 - A part reconstruction of 50 stamps, including block of 4 and 3 covers. Over 50% perfect 4 margin & appear to be different letterings, the block of 4 has margins and is reasonable (Cat 250). Plating is likely to be very accurate. Good lot at 250 3

G1554 G1555 1d Red Imperf Plate 70 Part reconstruction of 56 stamps and one cover. 55% appear to be perfect 4 margin, with the remainder ¾ margins. No duplication of letterings noticed. Plating is likely to be very accurate. Good basis to work from. 230 1d Red Imperf Plate 71 Lovely part reconstruction of 91 stamps mainly different letterings, incl very presentable block of 4, a lovely looking strip of 6, 5 strips of 4, one on cover (difficult), one strip of 3, 4 pairs and Lovely Good to Large 4 M SG re-entry (Statham P. 993), slight scissor cut into NW square, 46 other singles (one on cover, one with blue cancel) with several good 4 M, the rest being 3 to4 M or better. A really good lot to build from. Plating likely to be accurate. 575 1d RED PERF STARS BLUE & WHITE PAPER - Plated & Unplated The following 3 lots of 1d Perf Blue Paper Stars (mainly perf 16 unless otherwise noted) come from a large stock of unplated Line-Engraved 1d & 2d Values (see also Imperfs 1d & 2d Sections). Centring on these issues is usually difficult but they represent a genuine opportunity for the study of these interesting stamps. Y1556 50 Unplated Approximately 26 Good Well Centred copies. All platable. 200 Y1557 50 Unplated Approximately 24 Good Well Centred copies. All platable. 190 Y1558 50 Unplated Approximately 27 Good Well Centred copies. All platable. 200 Y1559 58 singles on Piece with Glasgow CDS alongside variety of different postmarks 160 Y1560 46 All English and mostly different Towns. Some interesting postmarks. 140 Y1561 46 All English and mostly different Towns. Some interesting postmarks. 140 The following 4 lots are from a very neat collection of what are described by the previous owner as the Reserve Plates being Spec C12 Plate 50 and 51, Spec C13 Plate R15 and R16 and Spec C10 Plate R17. They are set out as letterings on an individual page. Mainly fine to very fine used and catalogue value of each page of 5 stamps is 157. Unchecked by us but appear to be accurately plated. Y1562 5 Stamps lettered EE 55 Y1563 5 Stamps lettered EG 55 Y1564 5 Stamps lettered JG 40 Y1565 5 stamps lettered OG 40 Y1566 Y1567 Y1568 15 pieces 3 with 2 stamps all cancelled by Scottish Experimental Duplex with CDS. GREENOCK (3), DUNDEE (3), ABERDEEN (1), INVERNESS (1), PERTH (6) A couple of stamps slightly damaged but appear largely unplated. 75 15 copies all quite good and cancelled by PERTH Experimental Duplex & CDS, varying dates & largely unplated so well worth plating. 60 Very attractive series of 24 1d Red Stars on Blue & White paper with at least one copy from each of the Specialised C1 to C12 categories except C7. Some good well centred fine used copies incl a few multiples (on C10 s). One or two minor faults as usual reflected in price of 150 1d PLATES (Letters in All 4 Corners) INDIVIDUAL RECONSTRUCTIONS L1569 Plate 175 192 stamps part reconstruction Cat 864 160 The following 1d Red Plate lots came from a recent purchase of reconstructions. They are largely complete & the condition on the cheaper plates is nearly all sound. Condition on the plates cat 540 or more are rather more mixed with an appropriate allowance in the price which ignores the many useful postmarks noticed. L1570 Plate 86 232 stamps (231 different letterings) Cat 928 250 L1571 Plate 91 232 stamps better condition than usual Cat 1,392 400 L1572 Plate 127 235 stamps Cat 526 120 L1573 Plate 165 231 stamps Cat 462 120 L1574 Plate 166 232 stamps Cat 1,392 350 L1575 Plate 202 220 stamps (220 different letterings) Cat 1,760 460 2d PLATES (Letters in All 4 Corners) N1576 N1577 N1578 N1579 N1580 1858-79 2d Blue SG45 Plate 7. 17 copies all appear to be difficult letterings, mixed condition but at least 6 appear to be perfect copies. Total cat 850 90 1858-79 2d Blue SG45 Plate 9. 8 copies all appear to be different letterings but condition very mixed, although 2 seem reasonable copies.
