General rules, regulations and health requirements listed in the Open Class Livestock Premium Book apply in this department. In case general rules conflict with Poultry Department general or special rules, the latter shall govern. 2. SUBMITTING ENTRIES. Entries may be made online at www.iowastatefairentry.org. Entries may also be made on the form available online at www.iowastatefair.org. Complete entry form and return it with full payment of all fees to: Iowa State Fair, Poultry Department, P.O. Box 57130, Des Moines, Iowa 50317-0003. 3. ENTRY DEADLINE IS JULY 14. ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE OR POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE JULY 14. NO LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED. 4. ENTRY FEES. Each exhibitor, as a requirement for entry, will pay an entry fee of $1.25 per bird. Entry Fee must accompany entry or it will be returned. 5. A $2.00 service charge to cover veterinarian inspection fees will be required with all entry forms. 6. Sale coop fee is $2.00 per hole (maximum four birds per hole). Fee must accompany entry form. All birds must be cooped. No birds will be allowed to remain in carriers during the Fair. 7. ADMISSION TO THE FAIR. Each exhibitor must purchase two discounted admission tickets at $8 each when making entry. Additional tickets may be purchased. Discounted tickets for children 6-11 years old may be purchased for $4 each. Without admission tickets, the full price of $12 (adults) and $6 (children) per day will be charged at the gate. 8. VEHICLE PERMITS. Each exhibitor must pay for a vehicle permit at $10 per day. Each exhibitor is limited to two ongrounds lot permits per day. Any additional passes will be issued for Lot Y. Vehicle permits must be purchased in advance by indicating the specific days needed on the Poultry Entry Form. Each vehicle permit will park one car or truck (no trailers) in a Fairgrounds lot for the specified day(s). VEHICLE PERMITS ARE REQUIRED TO PARK IN FAIRGROUNDS LOTS ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS. VEHICLE PERMITS ARE REQUIRED TO UNLOAD/LOAD ANIMAL ON THE FAIRGROUNDS. 9. REFUNDS. No refunds of fees will be made unless cancellation is received IN WRITING (letter, fax or e-mail) by July 21. No refunds will be given on tickets, wristbands or vehicle. No refunds of $5 or less will be issued. Refunds will be made by mail after the close of the Fair (separate from premium checks). 10. Substitutions will be allowed in same variety and sex only, but no additional entries will be allowed. 11. All birds must be marked by numbered leg bands and the number must appear on the entry form and shipping tags. 12. NO CAGED BIRDS OR RABBITS (i.e. Canaries, Parakeets, etc.) allowed in Pigeon, Poultry and Rabbit Building during Poultry Show. 13. All expenses for transportation of birds shipped to the Fair must be prepaid by the owner. 14. All birds will be displayed in coops provided by the Fair. Feed for poultry will be furnished by the Fair and competent assistants will be in charge of the feeding. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN WATER CUPS. 15. All judging will be by the latest edition of the American Standard of Perfection, copyrighted by the American Poultry Association (APA). 16. All exhibitors must be actual breeders of all the varieties they show, except hatcheries, which may exhibit birds from flocks, under their supervision, as per APA rules. 17. In Exhibition Poultry, first prize will be awarded if merited in the opinion of the judge. Any prize may be withheld at the discretion of the judge. 18. TERMS: Cock - male bird hatched before January 1 of the current year; Hen - female bird hatched before January 1 of the current year; Cockerel - male bird hatched on or after January 1 of the current year; Pullet - female bird hatched on or after January 1 of the current year. 19. Best Displays (displays consist of cock, hen, cockerel, pullet and three other birds) of the same variety and breed competing, will be determined by points. First to count 6 points; second, 4; third, 3; fourth, 2; fifth, 1. The number of points each exhibitor wins in each class is multiplied by the number of birds actually competing in the class; the sum of their winnings in all classes will determine their standing for Awards. 20. No one except Show Officials may handle or remove birds from the coops. 21. Exhibition Poultry and Bantams will be shown by breeds. Every exhibitor may enter no more than three birds per class. 22. Health Requirements - ALL birds must be accompanied by a) copy of the exhibitor s National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) official flock certificate, b) NPIP 9-2 Test Report or c) NPIP approved state plan certificate. Please bring these to the Fair with your birds and turn in to the Superintendent at check-in. 23. Poultry from out of state, with proper health papers, will be allowed to show. 1

24. If showing in the AOV class, you must list the variety and breed ON ENTRY FORM. 25. If you need a double cage, please enter your bird twice. POULTRY PREMIUMS: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th $3.75 $3.25 $2.25 $1.00 $90 will be given by the Iowa State Fair to be used as Overall Display awards for Large Chickens, Bantams and Waterfowl. 1st - $20 and 2nd - $10. The Iowa State Fair will also award $10 for Champion and $5 for Reserve Champion in the following Large Chicken Divisions: American, Asiatic, English, Mediterranean, Continental, All Other Standard Breeds; Bantam Divisions: Modern Game, Game, R.C. Clean Leg, S.C. Clean Leg, Feather Leg; Duck Divisions: Heavy, Medium, Light, Bantam; Geese Divisions: Heavy, Medium Light. APA CLUB MEET The APA invites you to become a member. Annual dues are $20 for one year, $50 for three years, $25 for one year outside the United States and Canada. Junior Dues (for those 18 and under) are $15 per year or $40 for three years. Endowment Trust Life membership is $260. All Annual and Endowment Trust Life members receive our yearbook and are eligible to earn points toward a Master Exhibitor Award. Every member is eligible for the awards at this show. A minimum of five Master Exhibitor Award points will be awarded to any qualified win at this show. AMERICAN POULTRY ASSOCIATION AWARDS APA ribbons awarded for the following Class Champions: Large Chickens - American, Asiatic, English, Mediterranean, Continental, All Other Standard Breeds Bantam Chickens - Modern Game, Old English Game, Single Comb Clean Legged, Rose Comb Clean Legged, Feather Legged, All Other Comb Clean Legged Ducks - Heavy, Medium, Light, Bantam Geese - Heavy, Medium, Light Turkeys Guineas Special APA Medals for Show Champion and Show Reserve JUNIOR SHOW AWARDS: An APA ribbon will be awarded for the following Champions shown by junior exhibitors: Champion Large Chicken, Champion Bantam Chicken, Champion Duck, Champion Goose, Champion Turkey and Champion Guinea Fowl. Plaques will also be awarded for Champion and Reserve Champion for each of these groups.
