3RD ANNUAL SUNFLOWER SUPREME BRED HEIFER SALE 3RD ANNUAL SUNFLOWER SUPREME HEIFER SALE Department of Agriculture FEATURING OVER 400 REGISTERED AND COMMERCIAL BRED HEIFERS

WELCOME Greetings, We appreciate the continued support of the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer sale, and are proud of the partnerships which created this program in southeast Kansas. We are confident the sale will result in long-term improvement to the beef cattle industry, will help Kansas cattlemen improve their herds, and will add value to the state s cattle industry, the largest sector of Kansas agriculture. In the last few years, the beef cattle industry has been challenged by large price swings in the marketplace. While individual producers cannot control what happens in the marketplace, they can take steps on their operations to add value to their herd by improving reproductive management protocols and replacement heifer selection strategies. We are proud to say the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer Program is helping cattlemen adopt these proven management tools and is becoming a recognized brand for high quality replacement heifers in Kansas and the region. In its first two years, more than 1000 heifers were sold in the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer Sale, and there are more than 400 enrolled this year. By participating in the program and focusing on improving reproductive efficiencies, participating ranches not only took steps to increase their individual potential for profitability but they also helped add value to the overall Kansas beef cattle herd. The beef industry in Kansas is critical to our state s overall economy, contributing more than $10.7 billion and supporting more than 47,900 jobs. Programs like the Sunflower Supreme Bred Heifer sale provide cattlemen with the tools to add additional value to their animals through improved reproductive management and increase the overall quality and value of the Kansas herd. Kansas is a global leader in the beef cattle sector and is recognized for its outstanding genetics and high-quality beef products. We are proud to work with Kansas cattlemen and our partners throughout the industry on this program and all endeavors to help grow and promote the Kansas beef industry.
