The History of the Chinese Horoscope In Chinese culture, each new year is represented by one of 12 animals. This tradition is thousands of years old and is said to have begun with a story. Given its age, many versions of the story exist and it is unclear as to whether the main character was the Buddha or the Jade Emperor. Nevertheless, both stories are very similar and name the same 12 animals. One version of the Chinese myth tells that the Buddha called out to all of the animals on Earth and asked them to come and see him one day yet only 12 animals answered the Buddha s call. Traits of the Dog People born in the different years of the Chinese zodiac cycle are believed to have particular character traits and qualities. These characteristics reflect the animal the year is named after. The dog is said to be the most likeable animal of the Chinese zodiac and has lots of positive qualities. In Chinese culture, the dog is honest, clever and independent. People born in the Year of the Dog are said to be excellent friends: they listen to other people s problems and they quickly forgive those who have wronged them. most important to them. They believe in truth and will always stand up for the right thing to do. They are always great at their jobs because they put a lot of effort into the work that they do. They often lend a helping hand to others, completing some of their work when they have too much to do. People born in the Year of the Dog often work as medical professionals, teachers, legal professionals, designers and members of religious organisations.
