University of Washington Live Mascot Family Application Thank you for showing interest to become our next family for the Live Mascot, The Alaskan Malamute Dubs II. Dubs plays an integral part in the University of Washington image and an ambassador for the University. It is imperative that the family that is chosen is aware of their responsibilities and are committed to giving the dog a loving home which is structured to minimize Dubs stress and maximize the ultimate success as the Official Husky Mascot. The estimated duration of role as official University of Washington mascot is 10 years but the role of the family of Dubs II is a commitment for the entire life of the dog (approximately 10-15 years), not just while serving as mascot. The expectations of the family are as follows: Provide a loving, safe home for Dubs II for the entire life of the dog. The environment is clean, healthy, and chemical free which provides adequate space indoors and outdoors for a dog of this size, receiving appropriate mental and physical enrichment and stimulation. Dubs II will receive adequate and prompt veterinary care allowing him/her to the best possible quality of life. Maintain Dubs II s grooming and physical hygiene Provide a healthy balanced diet following the recommendations of veterinarian and trainer. Participate in training sessions with the trainer approximately a 5-10 hours a week (3-5 days a week) commitment for the first 2 years of Dubs II life Maintain training program for the duration of Dubs II s tenure as mascot 1-5 hour per week commitment Attend all home football games approximately 7 games per year, 6 hour commitment each game, delivering and taking Dubs II home. Deliver/Take home Dubs II from other athletic and community events approximately 30-40 per year, no more than 3 per week. Prompt correspondence with Athletic Department in regards to Dubs II s availability for events and coordination with Student handlers for events (primarily done by email) Attend the interviews of Student Mascot handlers-aid in the decision process. Represent the University of Washington and the Mascot program in a positive light.
