Welcome to the PooPrints Family These instructions will help you roll-out the program, collect and submit samples, enter pet information online, and receive results. Please review all instructions with your staff, maintenance crew, and necessary personnel. Program Roll-Out Our steps were written by property managers for property managers. These are the methods they use for easy pet registration: 1. Send out a notification letter to residents explaining that your property is implementing PooPrints. Highlight the need to schedule an appointment for a quick cheek swab of their dog within 2 weeks. 2. We know documentation is important. PooPrints has examples of resident notification letters, pet policy lease addendums, and lease cover sheets. Contact us if you would like any of these documents. 3. Make an appointment spreadsheet listing all the community pet s names with DNA swab date and time. You can check the pet s weight and take a quick picture for their file if you find it necessary. You may also add a box on the resident s Lease Cover Sheet to indicate the Pet Policy Addendum has been signed. 4. During DNA Collection, fill out the Customer Information Card while the resident swabs the dog s cheeks (one swab per cheek). Enter the customer card information into the DNA World Pet Registry Admin account. Have the new Pet Policy Addendum ready to sign. The appointment typically takes 7 minutes or less. 5. At the end of week two (or any date of your convenience), call or send a letter to dog owning residents reminding of any unscheduled appointments and a potential fine if the appointment is not made and kept within 48 hours. 6. When all DNA has been collected, deliver a final letter to residents explaining that the maintenance team will be walking the entire community on a specific date to begin collection of any un-scooped poop. The PooPrints program is now in full effect to catch any poopitrators! You can also host a fun community experience with a Dog Day! During the event, swab dogs and educate pet owners about environmental issues. You can invite local veterinarians that can provide vaccines and boosters. PooPrints Distributors may be available in your area to assist with individual swab appointments or hosting a Dog Swabbing Day. 2

Benefits (for pet owners) Pet owners get a special peace of mind. Every dog on the property is accountable and they can t be wrongfully accused or anyone else s mess. Free online account on the DNA World Pet Registry Proof of ownership through DNA verification A lost-and-found service verifiable by their pet s genetic sequence We get countless dogs a month found and verified because of our DN tag and DNA technology. Printable DNA profile color map certificate for pet No pets or residents exposed to foreign bacteria and other microbes from other dogs. Benefits (for non-pet owners) No more hassle stepping in dog poop. Community is clean, green, and poop free. Have you found a dog with a tag like this? 3

DNA Collection Kit (cheek swab) The DNA Collection Kit contains everything you need to collect a DNA sample from a dog and return it to BioPet Laboratories for processing. Need additional help? You can find how-to videos on our website, pooprints.com, in the Learn More section. Swabbing the cheek of a dog is an easy, noninvasive method to collect DNA. Residents should swab their own pet in the presence of a staff member during a scheduled appointment to ensures you create an accurate database of your community dogs. Collection Steps 1 Kit contains 2 polyester-tipped swabs to collect cheek cells from each dog. DNA is found in cheek cells, not in saliva of the dog. Note: PooPrints is not designed for cats; please do not submit feline swabs. 1 2 3 Using one swab at a time, rub swab in circular motion between dog s cheek and gum for about 10 seconds. Apply slight pressure on the outside of cheek while swabbing to ensure sufficient collection. Avoid swabbing close the opening of mouth; try swabbing farther back and up into gum area. Both swabs are to be used on the same dog. One for each cheek. In the rare event of too little DNA collection on swab, BioPet will send RESWAB kit with dog name and DN# written on envelope and swab sleeve. After collecting each sample, allow the swabs to dry before returning to the swab sleeve. This typically takes fewer than 5 minutes. Label swab sleeve with dog name. Please do not place barcode sticker on the swab sleeve. Barcode stickers have already been applied to envelope and customer card. 2 3 4 Enter resident information into DNA World Pet Registry (pages 6-7), before swabs are mailed back to lab for processing. 4

Resident Information Card Enter resident info into DNA World Pet Registry before sending DNA swab back to BioPet. Log into your Community Administrator Account to perform data entry. This will take less than a minute per resident. (See pages 7-8) Note: Swabs received in the lab that have not been entered into the Registry cannot be processed and will be returned to the property for entry. Each DNA Collection Kit contains one Resident Information Card. Please fill out and enter the data for each dog in the community. Be sure to write the name of your property/community on the card. Data Entry Please write the Property Name exactly as it appears on the DNA World Pet Registry. Many properties have similar names, and it is critical to ensure pets are registered to the correct property. Enter the Pet s name and Resident Name in the proper location Add all information requested on the card. This way, when you get a match in the future, you will know which resident to contact. A B Your barcode sticker shows the dog s unique DN# with our PooPrints program and will need to be entered into the World Pet Registry. A dog that already has a DN# should never be given a new DN#. The DN# on the card must match the DN barcode on the envelope you receive. Be sure to put the card in the corresponding envelope. The DN# also matches the number on the green dog tag. C Note: your card may appear slightly different. 5 5

DNA World Pet Registry When enrolling in PooPrints, you will complete a Community Sign Up Sheet to add your community to our DNA World Pet Registry. On the sheet, please designate one person as the PooPrints Community Administrator to receive login credentials to your new Community Administration Account. Entering Data Into the DNA World Pet Registry www.dnawpr.com ADMIN Use the Admin account to enter data, store pet and resident information, manage PooPrints registered dogs, and check the status of sample processing. A) Select + Add new pet owner from the menu on the left side of the screen. C) A pop-up pane will appear prompting entry of pet owner info. A C *Note: We will email login credentials for the new Admin Account after you place your first order. Please contact us at info@pooprints.com if you have not received login credentials. 6 6

DNA World Pet Registry(continued) D) Enter all resident information into the fields. (Note: It is important to type the DN number EXACTLY as it appears on the barcode stickers to prevent processing delays). If the resident has a second pet, scroll to bottom of pop-up pane to click +add another pet for this resident. E) Click the Submit button to complete account set-up. E 7

Mailing a DNA Swab to BioPet Once you have completed the Collection and Data Entry steps, your DNA swab samples are ready to be sent to BioPet Laboratories for analysis. Be sure the Customer Information Card is filled out and information is entered into DNA WPR. The DN# barcode sticker should already be affixed to Customer Card. Be sure DN# barcode sticker on outer FLAP of the return envelope matches DN# on customer card and green ID tag in the DNA Collection Kit. Be sure to attach the Pet ID Tag to the dog s collar. The DN# on tag should match barcode stickers. This is the identification number for that dog. Be sure to enter the resident and pet information into the DNA World Pet Registry. The swabs should be dry and back in their swab sleeve. Place the sleeve and information card into the pre-paid envelope provided in your PooPrints DNA Collection Kit. Simply drop the envelopes in the mail and you are finished! Or, bulk package the envelopes to ensure their arrival in the lab. Notifications Once the samples arrive at the lab, the individual residents will be notified via email that a personal account has been created for them on the DNA World Pet Registry (if the resident has provided an email address). The Community Admin does not receive automated emails about the individual sample status. However, you can use the Admin Dashboard and other tools provided to track samples. In the event that a swab did not contain enough DNA, a RESWAB kit will be mailed to the property. The RESWAB kit will have the dog s name and its original DN# written on the envelope and the swab sleeve. It is important that NO DOG is given a new DN# once an original DN# has been assigned. 8

Waste Sample Collection Use the PooPrints Sample Collection Kit to collect a sample of dog waste. Please be sure to collect samples properly for optimal matching. Nickelsized amount Again if you don t want to read. Check out our instructional videos on our website here. Label the Collection Solution Bottle with community name and fill out sample information card. The Community name on the label must be the complete name as listed on the DNA World Pet Registry in order to ensure that the waste can be compared properly. 1. Using the knife, collect nickel-sized amount of dog waste from outer crust of the pile. We recommend cutting the end piece of the waste sample. Transfer collected sample to Collection Solution Bottle (do not pour out the solution). Secure the cap by twisting tightly. Shake the bottle vigorously for 30 seconds or more to mix the sample with the solution. Ensure the sample is thoroughly mixed until a uniform consistency is reached. You may add more waste from the outer crust using your spatula to reach the desired consistency. 2. Place the Collection Solution Bottle into the resealable bag. Return the waste sample and completed label to BioPet for analysis (page 11). Discard the knife with the remaining pile and dispose of them properly at the end of the collection procedure. 3. Helpful Hints DNA is located inside cells. As waste moves through the intestines, cells attach to the outer crust of the pile the most cellular-rich area. Collect the sample from the outer crust to ensure the highest DNA yield. If it has rained or the waste sample appears to be dried out, we recommend flipping the waste sample over and collecting from the underneath side. Make sure to shake the bottle vigorously to properly mix the sample with the solution. 9

Mailing a Waste Sample After collecting a waste sample, put the PooPrints Collection Solution Bottle into the provided resealable bag. Please use one bottle and one resealable bag per waste pile. Please do NOT put the spatula or other dirty items into the resealable bag. Prepare the sample for shipping: Place the PooPrints Collection Solution Bottle in its resealable bag in a rigid outer shipping container such as a fiberboard box. 1. To save on shipping, you may mail multiple samples in the same shipping container. Do not ship waste in an envelope, as the packaging could be damaged in the mail, and the sample could be lost. Write Exempt animal specimen on the address side of the rigid shipping container. These samples can be mailed by any class of USPS mail. Once the waste is in the solution, the DNA is stable so it is not necessary to use expedited shipping. If shipping FedEx, you will need an additional FedEx Clinical Pak, which is free upon request at most FedEx Store locations. 2. The PooPrints Collection Solution Bottle, resealable bag and rigid shipping container (not included for all purchases) serve as three levels of protection. This meets all Federal regulations for shipping pet waste. Note: The PC2000H comes complete with pre addressed labeling with postage and return shipping container. The PC2000 does not include these features. You are required to furnish on your own. 10 10

Mailing a Waste Sample Matching the Mess BioPet analysts will generate a genetic profile for the waste sample you submit. The profile is then compared to the profiles of the dogs registered to your community. BioPet will provide you with the DN number of the dog when a match is found. With our DNA World Pet Registry s results tool (see pages 12-13), you can find your results anytime. The Community Admin can then use the DN number to look up the owner information in the DNA World Pet Registry. This way, you can identify which resident did not scoop the poop! No Match Results A No Match result occurs when BioPet is able to get sufficient DNA from the waste sample, but the DNA does not match any of the dogs in your community database. To avoid this situation, it is important that all dogs in your community are registered before sending waste to be matched. Communities will be billed the full processing fee. As new dogs are added to your DNA World Pet Registry database, your No Match samples will be rechecked to find a match. Failed Result A failed result occurs when BioPet is unable to extract enough canine DNA from the waste sample. Possible reasons for failure include: not sampling from the outer crust, too little sample, too much sample or a non-canine sample. If a sample is contaminated and contains DNA from more than one canine, it will also result in a fail 11

Results Log on to our DNA World Pet Registry at DNAWPR.com to take a look at your community s account. Log-in with your WPR number and password. Waste Sample Results Tool Access the Waste Sample Results tool by navigating to the side panel of your Dashboard. The Waste Sample Results view will default to the 15 most recent waste sample results. Find more results by clicking to the next page on your account or changing the filter at the bottom to increase amount of results viewed per page. As an admin, you are able to print certificates for each TD#. Send Email will send results to your distributor. Most property managers do not use this function. 12

Results (continued) Filters are provided for convenience. You may choose to use any combination of filters or no filters at all. Please remember to check the Clear Filters box between searches to reset the fields. 1. TD# Filter to see results in ascending or descending order of TD number. 2. By Property Filter to see results by community. You will only be allowed to view communities managed by your group. 3. Date Created See results created in order at specific times 4. Last attempted The last time the lab attempted to run DNA against that sample. 5. By Status Filter by DNA Sample Received, DNA Processing Complete, or Reanalyzing. 6. By Waste Sample Number This is an open text field to allow you to type a desired TD Number. 13

Results (continued) TD Numbers are hyperlinked. Use this link to view collection notes supplied by your community. The Collection Location will appear in a pop-up pane to identify collection details. Most properties include when, where and who collected the sample. Results are hyperlinked, too. Select the Result Match, No Match, Fail to link to the individual TD Number report. You will see what DN number (dog identifier) matches that waste sample. 14

Other Tips We advise that you do a quarterly audit of your WPR account. Compare the dogs in the WPR to the list of pets on your property. This technique is very successful for eliminating the majority of No Matches on properties. Regular maintenance of your account keeps your No Matches and Re- Runs at a low level. Navigate to the pets tab on the left panel of your account to see the list of dogs on your property registered in the WPR. Don t forget to place the Green PooPrints tag on pets after you swab their DNA. This is a quick way to visually tell if a resident s dog is registered. If there s no green tag, you re probably getting no-matches! The tag is also a benefit for residents. We have countless calls each month finding lost dogs with the PooPrints tag. We can quickly get a hold of the resident to put them in contact with the person that found their dog. 15
