Northwest Puppy and Handler 2016 Application & Contestant Guide Page!6 A panel of five (5) judges representing leaders in the community scores Northwest Puppy and Northwest Handler contestants. Judging is based on seven (7) categories using a combined Olympic scoring system in the categories and points outlined below. The contest also involves bonus points which are added to the judges scores. Fundraise (All) - (maximum 300 points) Each contestant will be required to sell raffle tickets on Friday, September 11th 2015 during the Meet & Sniff. The full 300 points will be awarded to the Puppy and Handler that earns the most money. 200 points will be awarded to the Puppy and Handler contestant that earns the second most money and 100 points will be given to the Puppy and Handler contestant that earns the third most. Pup Training (Handler) (maximum 450 points, up to 150 points per judge, Olympic scoring) Each Handler contestant will draw a trick at random they have to train to a puppy or group of puppies depending on Pup to Handler ratio using all non-verbal commands. Pairing of the Handler to Puppy(ies) will be done at random. The Handler will have 10 minutes to train the trick non-verbally while the Judges spectate before they have to present it to the Judges and Audience. This category is intended to show dynamics of how well the Handler and Puppy(ies) are able to work as a team. Interview (All) - (maximum 600 points, up to 200 points per judge, Olympic scoring) Each contestant will meet with the judging panel offstage and in private, prior to the second portion of the contest to answer questions about the contestant s interest in puppy play, fetishes, knowledge, willingness and ability to represent the title. Interviews will last no longer than 15 minutes each, therefore it is important to listen to the question being asked by the judges and respond in a concise and complete manner so that all judges have a chance to ask questions of the contestant. If the judges would like to know more, they will ask for additional information. Contestants should shake the judges hands upon entering and leaving the Interview. On Stage Speech (All)- (maximum 600 points, up to 200 points per judge, Olympic scoring) Each contestant will deliver a two (2) minute speech on a topic they are passionate about and feel is appropriate to the contest and the puppy/handler community. One (1) point will be deducted per second over time rounded to the nearest five (5). Image (All) - (maximum 300 points, up to 100 points per judge, Olympic scoring) Each contestant will appear onstage and be introduced to the audience by the emcee using information provided on the completed contestant application. Judging in this category is based on how you present yourself as a Human Puppy or Handler. Pup Scene (Puppy) - (maximum 450 points, up to 150 points per judge, Olympic scoring) Each Puppy contestant will appear onstage while performing a puppy play scene that they have written. The scene can be read by the emcee, if requested by the contestant. Judging in this category is based on the contestant s creativity and ability to covey their most playful puppy play scene. Contestants may involve their puppies/handlers/owners, additional pups, or they can request a volunteer staff member to help. Props may be used, but must be approved by the contest producers for safety and compliance with the law. The Pup Scene cannot exceed five (5) minutes in length. (NOTE: The fantasy is to be typed, using a maximum 150 words and turned in at the Contestant Meeting on Friday evening.) Onstage Question (All) - (maximum 300 points, up to 100 points per judge, Olympic scoring) Each contestant will answer a question onstage, asked by one of the judges. Judging in this category is based on how well you can command the audience s attention, creativity and overall playfulness of your response to the question. Audience Vote (All) - (Maximum of 25 points) A maximum of 25 points will be awarded to the puppy and Handler with the most audience votes. Each contestant placing behind the most will be awarded 5 points less commensurate with their audience ranking.
