~ Judge's Profile ~ There have always been dogs in our family but our first Rhodesian Ridgeback was purchased in 1996. The breeder encouraged us to show this puppy which we did and that was the start of that. It took over our life for many years. After several years of showing I judged my first Open Show in 2001. For the next 11 years I regularly judged Ridgebacks at Open Shows. My first appointment to award CCs was Blackpool 2012, but unfortunately for the exhibitors and myself the tents were blown down the night before Hound day and the show was cancelled. In 2014 I judged Ridgebacks at SKC and in 2016 I judged at WELKS. It is an honour to have been invited to judge at the RRCGB Championship Show and I am really looking forward to it. Stephen Holbrook (Ngami)

Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible for exhibition. 10. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden. 11. Best Puppy in Show Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same Show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Show. Similarly, if the Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Show. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best in Show. Best Puppy in Show must be selected from puppies which have been judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy. Withdrawal from Other Competition Puppies which become eligible for Best Puppy in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than Breed Classes prior to the competition for Best Puppy in Show as appropriate, in order to remain unbeaten. A puppy beaten in competition for Best Puppy in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dog declared Best Puppy in Show, however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Proviso For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog. 12. Best in Show The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which had competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at the same Show. Best in Show must be selected from the exhibits declared Best of Sex providing they are unbeaten winning dogs. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the Best Opposite Sex and the Reserve Best of Sex to the exhibit declared Best in Show. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show must not compete in any subsequent competition. Withdrawal from Other Competition Dogs which become eligible for Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition, other than breed classes prior to the competition for Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in Show

may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Proviso For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs. 13. Exhibits will not be admitted to Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previous judging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management. 14. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 15. It is not acceptable to handle a dog in a manner which causes its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. Exhibitors should note that such practices could constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11. 16. All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B) - Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition. 17. All dogs resident outside of the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 18. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do s and don ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events. When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams. If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all. The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink. Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog. When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle. Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated. Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry. 19. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered. 20. No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible. 21. Any owner, competitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling caused by their dog(s) at any Kennel Club licensed show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that event including car and caravan parks and approaches. 22. Should the judge be prevented from fulfilling his/her engagement, the Committee reserves the right of appointing another judge (subject to the approval of the Kennel Club) to fulfil the duty. In this case, exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition but no entry fees can be refunded. 23. An announcement prior to date of closing of entries in Our Dogs or Dog World of an alteration

or addition to the schedule or these regulations shall be deemed sufficient notice thereof. 24. The Committee will not be responsible in any way for any claim of injury or compensation occasioned by or arising out of the holding of the show, or by reason of the act or default of any person in attendance or present there at. 25. If an acknowledgement of entry is required, a stamped addressed postcard must be enclosed with the entry form and fee. 26. a) No person shall carry out punitive correction or harsh handling of a dog at any time whilst at the licensed venue including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. b) The owner, exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). SHOW REGULATIONS 1. The show will be held under Kennel Club Limited Rules and Show Regulations. Every exhibitor making an entry or entries shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the Kennel Club Limited Rules and Show Regulations, and it is on this understanding only that entries are received. All dogs must be registered or transferred at the Kennel Club before the show. The society reserves the right to refuse entries. 2. Entries close: Thursday, 31st August 2017 (Postmark). On-line entries close: Thursday, 7th September 2017. If an acknowledgement of entry is required, a stamped addressed postcard must be enclosed with the entry form and fee. 3. THE SHOW REGULATIONS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED, IF YOU WISH TO BRING ANY DOGS OTHER THAN THOSE ENTERED IN THE SHOW, THEY MUST BE ENTERED 'NOT FOR COMPETITION' AND THEY MUST BE OVER FOUR CALENDAR MONTHS OF AGE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SHOW. 4. The Committee will be empowered to exclude or remove any dog which is not in a fit state for exhibition from disease, lice, natural or other causes and, if such exclusion takes place before or after the dog is judged, the entry is forfeited. 5. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of dogs brought for exhibition, but it must be distinctly understood by exhibitors and all other persons that the Committee will not be responsible for the loss, detention of or damage to any dogs or other property, whether arising from accident or any cause whatever, or from any act or omission, their officers, agents, servants or others. 6. The catalogue will contain the owners names with their dogs in numerical order. 7. The Committee will not be responsible for exhibitors missing their classes. 8. Should the Judge be prevented from fulfilling his/her engagement, the Show Committee reserve the right of appointing a substitute. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw. 9. The Judge will be instructed to withhold the prize or prizes in any class if in the Judge s opinion the dog or dogs exhibited do not possess sufficient merit. Judges are not empowered to give prizes beyond those offered in the schedule of prizes. The Judge s decision in all cases shall be final. 10. All Rules, Regulations or Definitions and Instructions of the nature of Rules and Regulations printed for convenience in other parts of this schedule shall be deemed to be the Regulations of the Committee and shall have the same effect as if they formed part of these Regulations. Should any question arise not provided for in these Regulations, the decision of the Committee shall be final, subject only to appeal to the Kennel Club. 11. Exhibitors showing dogs are not permitted to hold conversations with the Judge during competition and any exhibitor who persists in addressing the Judge after being requested not to do so by the Ring Steward, the Judge or any member of the Committee may be disqualified and any prize money awarded to his/her dogs forfeited. No persons other than exhibitors (officials exempted) will be allowed in the ring during the judging of classes or specials. 12. All correspondence, enquiries and letters should be addressed to Show Secretary, Philomena Nash, 8 Pick Hill, Burlton, Shrewsbury, Shorpshire SY4 4TA. Tel: 01939 270509.
