The choice 40 to 44 kilos in keen demand ranging from 166p to a top of 174p for two pens of 42 kilos ( 73) from Messrs T & C Congdon, Marhamchurch followed by Messrs J & C Stoneman of Samford Courtenay who sold a pen of 42 kilos at 170p ( 71.50). The heavies saw nine pens over 76 and to a top of 81.80 for a pen of 52 kilos from Geoff Petherick, Clawton followed by Rob Harris of Putford with Charollais heavies at 80. 313 DRAFT EWES & RAMS A flying trade for all on offer with again a lot of Hill bred ewes on offer. The strong Suffolk x ewes up to 84 sold by both Mark Vickery, Kilkhampton and Charlie Metherell, Torrington. Several Mules around 68 and to a top of 77.50 again sold by Charlie Metherell. Swaledales up to 50 sold by Swaddledown Farms, Bratton Clovelly with over 30 rams on offer selling to a top of 100.50 from Rob Harris, Putford. 123 STORE LAMBS Again a very fast trade from start to finish, several pens over 60 and to a top of 68 from two vendors.

A run of strong British Blue bulls sold to a top of 500 twice and 480 twice on behalf of Messrs AB Lake & Sons from Weare Gifford. A younger run of Limousin x bulls from Mr KM Furse from Ashwater saw a top of 430 with others at 412 and 405. A good run of young British Blue x bulls from Kim Davey of Lewdown saw two top at 390 and a very smart young British Blue x bull sold for 380 on behalf of Messrs B & D & A Timms from Thorndon Cross who also topped the Aberdeen Angus x bull section with a good young calf selling for 275. Hereford x bull calves to 255 for Mr KM Furse with another at 255 for Mr BG Nicholls from Barnstaple. Charolais x bulls to 355 for Messrs D Stone & Son from Bude and Friesian bulls to 270 for a strong calf sold by Messrs AB Lake & Sons with another at 265 and the better young bulls selling between 100 to 135. Heifers saw a top of 525 for a strong British Blue x sold by Messrs AB Lake & Sons and a young South Devon x heifer sold well to make 365 for Messrs TE & JM Bayly & Sons from Warbstow with young Charolais x heifers to 315 for Messrs D Stone & Sons. Top of 585 was achieved by a young Limousin x steer sold by Messrs ME & IE Vanstone from Woolsery and this weeks sale included a consignment of British Blue x and Limousin x stirks from Mike Braunton of Helland with his three British Blue steers 5 months old selling for 582, three further steers made 575 and his best Limousin x steers at 570 with many others making between 530 to 565. Also Mike Braunton topped the heifer section with four British Blue x heifers at 6 months old selling for 540 with young Limousin x heifers making 540 and 525 for the same vendor. Several further bunches of British Blue x heifers at 5-6 months old around 500 to 505 and also 505 was paid for a pair of Charolais x heifers sold by Messrs ME & IE Vanstone.
35 STORE CATTLE - 11am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 Considerably dearer trade this week due to the number on offer, with a top price of 905 for a 24 month old Friesian Steer sold on behalf of Messrs FE Adams & Son, Torrington. The same vendor also sold a British Blue Steer to 890. Mr George of Buckland Brewer sold a 19 month old Hereford x Steer named sire to 890. Heifers topped at 778 for a Hereford x from Shirley Griffiths, Brandis Corner. Top of the day was 1720 for Coppicepark Debs 37 a heifer by Crackholm Fever from Gary Mitchell of Loswithiel. Other heifers sold to 1600 for Chettiscombe Outbound Lani 9 by Schilldale Outbound from Messrs SEJ Tapp & Sons of Tiverton who also sold the highest priced cow of the collective entry Chettiscombe Baxter Lani 7 VG85 a second calver by Baxtewr which sold giving 45Kgs. Other Heifers sold to 1520 & 1500 for Pedigree Broomhill bred heifers from Messrs L & A Gould & Son of Holsworthy. Mr G Michell of St Austell sold one his last consignments of heifers from his Gearvean herd topping at 1500 with others to 1480 x 2 and 1450. An Organic Heifer from Peter Cole of Pancrasweek sold well to 1500. Graham Duke & Family of Werrington dispersed the Summer and Autumn calving portion of their herd and saw an excellent trade topping at 1550 for a Norwegian Red x heifer which sold giving 32Kgs. Other Norwegain Red x heifers sold to 1500 & 1450 and Fleckvieh heifers sold well to 1480 & 1450 whilst the best of their Black and Whites sold to 1480 for a heifer by Picston Shottle which calved in September.
