Top per kilo on the day was 157p for a pen of 42 kilos from Trevor Dawe, Thriverton, West Putford followed by Tim Marsh of Anvil Corner who sold a pen of 39.3 kilos which realised 151p. Top per head on the day was 66 realised by four vendors. 255 DRAFT EWES & RAMS The draft ewe trade has dropped this week due to the end of the festival, our overall average on the day 56.87, 10-12 up on other centres in the South West. Top on the day was 78.50 from Lauren Shadrick, Great Lakes. 747 BREEDING EWES & EWE LAMBS A smaller entry met a steady trade with a lot more ewe lambs on offer. Top price this week was 110 for four pens of Texel x 2T from David Beak, Scadgehill Farm, Bude. Several ewe lambs over 70 and to a top of 79 for two pens of Texel x Mules from Richard Pillman, Poughill. 82 STORE LAMBS A flying trade for all store lambs up around 5 a head and more could have been sold. Top on the day was 59 from Mrs M Warring, Ashwater. 60 RAMS An easier trade was met by the rams with the well bred rams selling to a top of 335 for a Suffolk shearling from Darren Ridd of Barnstaple who also sold a Texel 2T at 330 and a Texel FM at 295.

Overall top call of the day was 450 given twice, firstly for a smart British Blue bull from Edward Grigg of Monkleigh and then the same money given for a young British Blue 29 days old from Messrs Collins Partnership of Winscott Farm, Holsworthy. The best of the Aberdeen Angus bulls came in from Messrs Francis & Son of Egloskerry at 415 with plenty upwards of 380 however having named sires made a substantial difference. Messrs Holland Farmers of Tavistock saw their best Aberdeen Angus calves to 322 closely followed by a cracking run of Aberdeen Angus from Messrs J Colgrove & Partners of St Ewe in Cornwall at 385. Top Simmental calves hit 330 from Messrs Weaving of Tavistock and the best of a nice entry of Limousin calves saw the very best at 348 from Daniel Ley of Langtree with Richard Woolridge of Halwill close up at 305. Plenty of buyers for the Holstein Friesian bulls with the strong calves to 262 for Messrs Holland Farmers and Guy Ley of Sutcombe at 235. Only just a handful of Black and White bulls below the 50 bracket with the vast majority between 85-110. The winners of this week s Genus Vouchers for the highest priced bull and heifer calves were Messrs RB & NJ Veale, Upcott, Halwill with a British Blue x bull calf sired by Chestnuts Umpire realising 425. The heifer section was won by Messrs JR & MJ Ovens, Brendon, Halwill with a British Blue x heifer calf sired by Moorsley Anderson realising 440. 230 STORE CATTLE - 11am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 A good number of store cattle saw another strong trade, few forward steers saw a top of 1090 for a 26 month old Shorthorn steer from Mr Bob Cowell and three British Blue steers from Mr Roger Vanstone, Soldon who also topped the heifers at 1032 for five British Blues at 22 months old. Several 16 18 month old Dairy x Continental steers again saw prices over 850-950 and plenty more would have sold well. Young 10 12 month old Continental and Native steers a flying trade steers 700-800, young heifers 600-700. Holstein steers remained firm 16 18 month old Holsteins 660-740, young 10 month old Holsteins 430-500. Top priced Holstein was 885 for four 22 month old steers from Messrs Harvey Bros, Wrangworthy. Several 800 plus kilo cows at 90p 99p. Top price per head was 791 realised for a 870 kilo cow at 91p from Messrs JT & RL Pomeroy, Whiteley and also for an 808 kilo Holstein at 98p from Mr LJ & LE Luxton & Son, Venn Farm. 40 Month old steers from Bob Cowell, Helston topped at 139p for an 880 kilo Simmental which realised 1223. 93 DAIRY CATTLE - 11.30 am Auctioneer: Mark Bromell 07966 430001 Mark Davis - 07773 371774 An impressive entry of quality dairy cattle met a good trade at this week s dairy sale. Top price of the day was 1950 for Laneslade Beraka Queenie GP83. Having yielded 8072 Kgs in her first lactation this smart 2nd calver was freshly calved and currently yielding 39 Kgs, sold by Mr & Mrs Clive Faulkner of Laneslade Dairy Ltd. These vendors sold an exceptional consignment of 9 first and second calvers which averaged 1723. Top price heifer was 1850 for Affaland Altagratis Mavis sold by Matt & Becky Jenkin of the Mabec herd. Another quality entry of mainly heifers from these vendors averaged 1635. An outstanding bunch of 19 pedigree bulling heifers offered by Messrs O Petherick & Son of Kilkhampton met keen bidding, topping at 950 and averaging 940. Four well reared pedigree heifer calves from Messrs Grigg at Monkleigh sold to a strong trade realising 440 at four months old.
