ENTRY FEES MUST BE IN UNITED STATES FUNDS. Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Club and/or its Show Secretary will add a $10.00 collection fee to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis for future events of the Club. The returned check MUST BE MADE GOOD by cash or money order BEFORE the dog(s) will be allowed in the ring. Effective for all events held after January 1, 2008, the AKC will collect a $3.00 Event Service Fee for the first entry of a dog and a $3.00 service fee for each additional entry of the same dog in the regular and non-regular recordable single entry classes, in all AKC licensed and member club events. (There is no recording fee or event service fee for sweepstakes, futurities, brace/team, multi-dog classes, or special attractions.) The current $.50 recording fee will continue to be collected. (Chapter 11, Section 2, Rules Applying to Dog Shows, published by the American Kennel Club.) Dogs which according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show, but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed competition, provided the transfer is made by the Show Secretary at least onehalf hour prior to the start of any regular conformation judging at the show. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Section 6.) Exhibitors should follow their veterinarian s recommendation to assure their dogs are free of internal and external parasites, any communicable diseases, and have appropriate vaccinations. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the steward s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner*. Professional handlers, household National Owner-Handled Series members and assistants to current professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any breed competition during the entire show. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ENTERING. VETERAN DOG CLASS - For dogs six (6) years of age and older. VETERAN BITCH CLASS - For bitches six (6) years of age and older. Note: Neutered dogs and spayed bitches may be entered in Veteran Classes at independent specialty shows and by virtue of winning the class may compete for Best of Breed. FIELD TRIAL DOG CLASS FIELD TRIAL BITCH CLASS The Field Trial Dog and Bitch Classes are open to any Basset Hound which has placed in an AKC member or licensed Field Trial. Judging will be on conformation only and by virtue of winning the class may compete for Best of Breed. A photocopy of the ribbon earned must accompany the entry in the Field Trials classes. A neutered dog or a spayed bitch cannot be entered in the Field Trial classes. BEST OF BREED COMPETITION "The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition. Dogs that are Champions of Record. Dogs which according to their owner's records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owner's records. If, at the end of the 90-day period, the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by The American Kennel Club, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by the A.K.C." BEST BRED-BY-EXHIBITOR (Saturday Only) RULES: The same rules that apply to eligibility to compete in the regular Bred-By-Exhibitor classes apply to eligibility to compete in Best Bred-By-Exhibitor in Breed. During the course of regular breed judging, the assigned judge will select a Best Bred-By-Exhibitor from the class winners of the Bred-By-Exhibitor classes. This will be done after Best of Breed judging unless the Best Bred-By-Exhibitor award is automatic: Example: An entry from the Bred-By-Exhibitor classes is awarded Best of Winners or Best of Breed. Only the dog and bitch undefeated in it s Bred-By-Exhibitor class are eligible for Best Bred-By-Exhibitor Competition. If the first place winner is not present the second place winner may not compete. NON-REGULAR CLASSES, INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES As the Judge s decision in the Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, and Brace Classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in any one or more of these classes will be eligible for Best of Breed or Best of Variety Competition by virtue of having won these classes. STUD DOG CLASS For Stud Dogs and a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 of their Get. The owner of the stud dog need not be the owner of the get. The stud dog must appear in the ring with his get and be entered in the Stud Dog class. Additionally, Get appearing with a Stud Dog must also be entered individually at this Specialty. Neutered dogs may be shown in this class. BROOD BITCH CLASS Same as Stud Dog Class, substitute Brood Bitches for Stud Dogs, Produce for Get and Spayed for Neutered. BRACE For two (2) dogs or bitches of the same recognized breed or variety that are similar in appearance, performing in unison, and presented by a maximum of two handlers. Both dogs competing in brace competition must have at least one common owner. Brace Fee is $18.00 for the Unit. If not entered in a Regular Class, fee is $30.00 per dog. JUDGES AWARD OF MERIT The Greater San Diego Basset Hound Club offers 1 Award of Merit for every 6 competing in the Best of Breed competition, to be presented in addition to but not including Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Select Dog and Select Bitch. There will be a special Rosette for each Award of Merit recipient. The judge may at his or her discretion award all or none of the rosettes. Receiving an Award of Merit is indeed a significant honor. PARADE OF TITLEHOLDERS (Saturday only) For all dogs holding an AKC title in conformation, obedience, tracking or field trials. The fee is $18.00. A large beautiful rosette with the dog s name in top-quality goldleaf on 16 streams will be presented. All entries in the Sweepstakes MUST be entered in one of the Regular Classes at this show. Indicate Sweepstakes and age division on the regular entry form under Additional Class. Entry for Sweepstakes is $18.00. No Champions may be shown in the Sweepstakes. Professional and/or Paid Handlers may only show dogs they own in Sweepstakes. All Juniors meeting the criteria for this class are required to enter the Master Class and may change their entry the day of the show if entries have already closed. Once the eligibility time frame for that year has passed all participants return to the Open Class to complete for the following year. JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP Saturday Only Judge: Dr. Carolyn Hensley Each dog handled in a Junior Showmanship Class must be entered in one of the Breed or Obedience Classes at the show, or must be entered for Junior Showmanship only. However, a dog may be substituted. Such substitution must be accompanied by an official AKC entry form. All such substitution must be made one half-hour prior to the judging of any Junior Showmanship Classes at the show. Each dog must be owned or co-owned by the Junior Handler or by the Junior Handler's father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandfather or grandmother, including step and half relations or by a member of the Junior Handler's household. Every dog entered for Junior Showmanship must be eligible to compete in Dog Shows or in Obedience Trials. BITCHES IN SEASON ARE NOT ELI- GIBLE. A dog that has been excused or disqualified by a Breed Judge or by a Bench Show Committee may still be handled in Junior Showmanship if eligible to compete in Obedience Trials. A dog that has been rejected, dismissed, or excused by the Veterinarian for the protection of the other dogs at the show or for the protection of the dog excused may not be handled in Junior Showmanship. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class with competition present after the closing of entries for a show may transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of any regular conformation judging or one half-hour to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the show, whichever is earlier. Winning of first place in an Open Class at this show may qualify or count toward qualification for entry in certain future limited Junior Showmanship Classes. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN TESTING The Greater San Diego Basset Hound Club is offering Canine Good Citizenship Testing, Friday afternoon following the Basset Hound Club of America Regional Specialty show (approximately 3:30 PM), Fee: $10. Dogs must be 6 months of age or older and wear a well-fitting buckle or slip collar of leather, fabric or chain. All tests will be performed on lead, which must be leather or fabric. Please bring your dog s comb or brush. Qualifying dogs will receive a copy of the test form which can be sent to AKC, along with an $8 recording fee, to receive AKC s official CGC certificate suitable for framing. As an alternative, you may send the test form to the AKC, along with a $20 processing fee, to receive the CGC certificate and, then you may use the suffix CGC after the dog s name, and CGC will be added to the dog s title record. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ENTERING. VETERAN DOG CLASS - For dogs seven (7) years of age and older. VETERAN BITCH CLASS - For bitches seven (7) years of age and older. Note: Neutered dogs and spayed bitches may be entered in Veteran Classes at independent specialty shows and by virtue of winning the class may compete for Best of Breed. FIELD TRIAL DOG CLASS FIELD TRIAL BITCH CLASS The Field Trial Dog and Bitch Classes are open to any Basset Hound which has placed in an AKC member or licensed Field Trial. Judging will be on conformation only and by virtue of winning the class may compete for Best of Breed. A photocopy of the ribbon earned must accompany the entry in the Field Trials classes. A neutered dog or a spayed bitch cannot be entered in the Field Trial classes. BEST OF BREED COMPETITION "The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition. Dogs that are Champions of Record. Dogs which according to their owner's records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owner's records. If, at the end of the 90-day period, the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by The American Kennel Club, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by the A.K.C." NON-REGULAR CLASSES, INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES As the Judge s decision in the Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, and Brace Classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in any one or more of these classes will be eligible for Best of Breed or Best of Variety Competition by virtue of having won these classes. STUD DOG CLASS For Stud Dogs and a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 of their Get. The owner of the stud dog need not be the owner of the get. The stud dog must appear in the ring with his get and be entered in the Stud Dog class. Additionally, Get appearing with a Stud Dog must also be entered individually at this Specialty. Neutered dogs may be shown in this class. BROOD BITCH CLASS Same as Stud Dog Class, substitute Brood Bitches for Stud Dogs, Produce for Get and Spayed for Neutered. BRACE For two (2) dogs or bitches of the same recognized breed or variety that are similar in appearance, performing in unison, and presented by a maximum of two handlers. Both dogs competing in brace competition must have at least one common owner. Brace Fee is $18.00 for the Unit. If not entered in a Regular Class, fee is $30.00 per dog. JUDGES AWARD OF MERIT At a Basset Hound Club of America Regional Specialty Show, the judge may bestow, at his or her discretion, up to five (5) Awards of Merit to exhibits other than the Basset awarded Best of Breed. This includes Best of Winners, Best of Opposite Sex and Select Dog/Bitch. The number of Awards of Merit is based upon the number of Basset Hounds competing in the Best of Breed competition. One Award of Merit may be given if there are five (5) to fourteen (14) Basset Hounds competing for Best of Breed, and one additional Award of Merit may be given for each additional ten (10) Basset Hounds competing in the Best of Breed competition up to the maximum of five (5) Awards of Merit.
