news page Sea turtles are amazing!! They are one of the Earth s oldest animals. 1 Sea turtles can be seven feet long! 7! They breathe air but can be under water for hours!! Sea turtles live in most of the world s oceans. page 2

news page In March, some female sea turtles leave the ocean. A turtle crawls onto the beach. She digs a big hole with her flippers. The turtle puts about 100 small eggs in the hole. 100 She covers them with sand and returns to the ocean. + page 3

news page The eggs hatch at night, after about eight weeks. 8 The tiny turtles must dig out of the sand. This is a dangerous time for the turtles. They must crawl quickly to the water. The moonlight on the water leads the turtles. page 4

news page The lucky turtles will crawl into the ocean. These sea turtles will grow up in the water. They can live for 80-100 years. 80-100 Male turtles never return to the beach. Female turtles only return to make a nest. page 5

news page But some of the tiny turtles are not lucky. Some turtles go in the wrong direction. They go towards land. Some become dinner for birds and crabs! +! Some turtles never find the ocean. page 6

news page Today, sea turtles are endangered. Many people want to help sea turtles. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center wants to help too. * The Center is in Juno Beach, Florida. It loves all sea turtles, tiny or large. or * Most turtles that nest on Florida beaches are Loggerhead sea turtles. page 7

news page The Center wants kids to love sea turtles too. School kids can learn about sea turtles at the Center. The Center even has a sea turtle summer camp!! go snorkeling, The campers can do an experiment, study a turtle nest and help sea turtles. page 8

Cut five grapes in half for each turtle. (ten pieces each) 4. Put seven pieces on top of each apple. Add one for head. 5. Cut the last grapes in half again. Put four pieces on each turtle for flippers. 6. Use gel to make two eyes on each turtle head. 7. Eat. page 15
