RABBIT RULES a) All rabbits must be owned by the exhibitor and be born by May 1 of the current year. Family owned rabbits are ineligible. Rabbits do not need to have registration or health papers. All rabbits must have permanent ear marks (a tattoo) in the left ear. b) PLEASE IDENTIFY THE SPECIFIC BREED, VARIETY (COLOR) AND TATTOO NUMBER ON YOUR ENTRY. c) Committee in charge reserves the right to refuse to accept for exhibit any rabbit which shows evidence of parasites, or diseases including, but not limited to, snuffles, tumor, hernia, rupture, blindness in one or both eyes, ear canker, slobbers, sore hocks, vent disease, abscesses, runny eyes and/or nose, mange colds or excessively dirty will not be accepted. d) Exhibitor's passes may be picked up at the 4-H Youth Development Building on August 4; thereafter, at the 4-H Livestock Office. e) The Fair will not be responsible for loss, damage, mistake or accident. f) Feed will be supplied by Clyde s Feed Store, Hamburg, NY. Rabbits are fed once a day in the evening. Owner is responsible for the care of their rabbit if they wish to have special provisions. g) All rabbits not picked up on Sunday, August 11 th between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM will be sold. h) Absolutely no late entries. i) All entries judged on the Danish system, following ARBA standards. j) You are encouraged to be present at judging to present your animal to the judge. k) All exhibitors are requested to help a minimum of one (1) two-hour period at the 4-H/FFA Rabbit Exhibit during the Fair. Sign up to help when you enter your rabbits. l) Exhibitors may not put for sale signs on pens until the last day of exhibition. (Sunday, August 11 th ) Rabbits are not released until 7-9pm m) All rabbit exhibitors must clean manure from under all cages your animals occupied. Failure to do so will prohibit you from participation in the rabbit program in 2014. Classes #1-992 Awards: Blue $3.00 Red $2.00 White $1.00 The Niagara Frontier Rabbit Club will donate the trophy for the Best in Show and Reserve Best of Show. Rosettes for Best of Breed and Best Opposite of Breed recipients, in breeds having five or more rabbits entered. PUREBRED DIVISION - Classes 1-770. The purebred classes will be judged similar to those conducted at American Rabbit Breeder Assoc. Shows and at the New York State Fair 4-H Rabbit Show. Purebred rabbits will be judged separately by breeds and will be divided into different age, color and sex classes. The winner from each of the classes will then compete for Best of Breed in the particular breed. The rabbits chosen as Best of Breed in the Purebred Division will compete near the conclusion of the show for Best Purebred in Show and Reserve Best Purebred Rabbit in Show. PET RABBIT PROJECT - Classes 771-772. This class is for 4-H project rabbits (Buck or Doe of any age) that are unknown or mixed breed origin OR are purebred but exhibit a disqualification by A.R.B.A. Standards. Disqualifications are absence of the nail or nails, bucks not showing both testicles broken or missing teeth, damaged ears or nails, off-colored eyes, wry tails, or foreign colored spots, in solid or self varieties or in marked varieties when specifically noted in breed standard. Judging to be based on: fur (as for appropriate fur type), freedom from the general faults, condition and thriftiness, cleanliness and health, and temperament. CAVIE CLASSES- Classes 773-992

Rabbit Knowledge Contest. Participants will be evaluated on their knowledge of rabbits. Contest will consist of a written test, feeds, and judging of a live rabbit. Advanced entry is required on the entry form. Any Erie County 4-H member may enter this contest. Bring pencil and surface on which to write. 994. Rabbit Information Poster. A 22" x 28" poster illustrating any phase of the 4-H Rabbit Project, (i.e.: Breeds, Health, Diseases, Nutrition, Parts of the Body, Housing, Fur Types, etc). Posters will be entered on Tuesday, August 6 th in the Poultry/Rabbit Barn. Advanced entry is required on the entry form. RABBIT SHOWMANSHIP Rabbit Showmanship Contest- Participation will be judged on the members knowledge of rabbit breeds/variety, anatomy, defects/disqualifications and handling of the live animal. Intermediate- Three (3) Five (5) years of poultry exhibiting experience. 999. Intermediate- 2 nd year exhibitor 997. Novice- Two (2) years of less of poultry exhibiting experience. 1000. Novice- 1 st year exhibitor Market Classes- Exhibitors 9 years of age & older Pen of Market Rabbit Class a. Limit of 1 market class per member b. An entry consists of 2 rabbits of the same variety and breed. Broken meat rabbit pens must be of the same variety (color). Rabbits will each have an individual coop. c. All entries in the market class will be sold as a pen of 2. d. Rabbits will be judged on meat type, condition, uniformity and fur. e. Fryer rabbits must weigh a minimum of 3 pounds, maximum of 5 pounds per rabbit and no more than 10 weeks old. Roaster rabbit s minimum weight of 5 lbs, maximum weight 8 pounds per rabbit and no more than 6 months old. f. Acceptable breeds are those that are found in 6 class categories g. All meat rabbits must have a tattoo number in their left ear h. Feed and medication guidelines must be strictly followed for antibiotic withholding periods. i. There must be a minimum of 5 market rabbit entries to be included in the auction. k. Members are responsible for replacement of meat rabbits if they perish prior to slaughter. l. Failure to do so will prohibit you from participation in the rabbit program in 2014.
