With this issue of the newsletter we should be up-to-date with the news from the July and August trials. Speaking to all of you at the meetings and trials has been great and I appreciate all the comments and compliments on the last newsletter. Trail of Champions is coming up and I want to ask all that attend to please consider that the people who volunteer their time to chair our events have family and commitments also. Please, Please make every effort to help them during and at the end of the event to get everything put away and cleaned up. The more help, the sooner EVERYONE can get home. Good luck to all who compete! If you have anything you wish to include or would like to see in any issue, please email me with your requests. It s your newsletter! ALOHA...We are off to Hawaii!!!! Letter from the President AZPDC President 2011 2012 Tom Wheeling That went fast didn t it? The regular trial season is over and the dust has settled in the high point contests. Congratulations to Todd Fielitz and Wyatt, Karl Von Wolff and Gee-Gee, and Jim Schroeder and Tucker, who now claim top honors in Gundog, Senior Hunter, and Junior Hunter, respectively. It comes as no big surprise that they are also 3 of the most conscientious trainers in the club. I think if a dog named Preparation ever bred with a dog named Opportunity their offspring would surely be named Success! Well done gentlemen. This month at the trial we posted 3 committee sign-up sheets for Trials, Rules, and Safety and we got a fair amount of interest. As expected, the Rules Committee generated the most interest, and the Safety Committee almost none (actually, exactly none). We would like to have the groups complete by the TOC, so if you want to put your 2 pennies in please jump onboard. Alternatively, you could just wait until the committees complete their arduous work and then second-guess, nitpick and grumble about every little thing they did! If that s more up your alley, maybe you could start a Grumble Committee. But then there might be some people who aren t satisfied with YOUR work! Ah well. Jump on in people, the water s fine! This month s meeting will again be held at the Denny s on Thunderbird, and our speaker will be one of the foremost authorities on Valley Fever as it affects animals, as well as general veterinarian information. His name is Mike Ferrara, DVM and he s one of the best. How and where is your dog most likely to contract VF? What are the early symptoms of VF? What are the latest treatments for VF? Can you contract it by French kissing your dog? (Thanks for the write-in question, Mr. Welch). It ll all be covered! One last thing: We will be sponsoring a booth at the Ben Avery Clay Busters event being held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility on Sept 10 on behalf of the Friends of NRA. Did you know that 65 cents of every dollar raised by the FNRA goes back to the community in the form of youth and educational programs? I think that s awesome. It s not the kids I see at our trials that I m worried about. It s the ones that I don t. And that is what the FNRA is all about. In addition to the sporting clays tournament, 100 Big Bangs for Freedom, there will be assorted raffles and sporting clays fun shoots. In fact, I ll donate $25 to the FNRA for every one of you who can best me on the 25 clay Quail Range! Trust me, I don t think I m that good, I just don t think you are. (Disclaimer: Present offer does not apply to anyone outside the club, anyone who s participated in a sporting clays league, or anyone named David Page). See you at the Range. Tom Wheeling President, AZPDC

New Members The Board of Directors and Members would like to welcome all of our new members, their families and dogs to the Arizona Pointing Dog Club. Kelly, great run with Dot on Saturday and congrats on your first 1 st with this dog. David, super job with Katie, as well as you Dominic, all contenders and great runs in Sr. Saturday. Jim you and Tucker keep tearing it up in Jr. CJ gets Roxy in TOC. You are going to be busy there brother On to Sunday. Sunday Results Gun Dog - 3 Braces/5 dogs 1 st -Tori-Brent Jacobs, 2 nd -Gunner-Don McNabb, 3 rd -Wyatt-Todd Felitz, 4 th -Hobie-Tom Wheeling Sr. Hunter - 11 Braces/ 22dogs 1 st -Gretchen-Brian Smith, 2 nd -Piper-Russell Page, 3 rd -Delbert-Ted Bounds, 4 th -Jack Kelly Burns Jr. Hunter - 6 Braces/ 12 dogs 1 st -Tucker-Jim Schroeder, 2 nd -Mick-Eric Ersland, 3 rd -Mack CJ Hamilton, 4 th -Reba Ted Bounds Sunday News-Tori won t give up and I think we have a battle for 1 st going in Gun Dog keep it up Brent, Don is consistent with Gunner all weekend good job Don, Nice to see Tom and Sparky show up and get going, good job Pres. Todd, good job with third but what s up with Wyatt lifting his leg on the retrieves??? Gretchen made somewhat of a comeback this weekend for me. The pages always come screaming in at the end of the year, Nice run with Piper on Sunday. Ted Bounds gets a TOC qualification with Delbert, great job Ted trust me getting a ribbon in our Sr. Hunter class is an accomplishment. Kelly goes home with some more booty for a trophy room with Jack. Jim your trophy room must be getting full of ribbons, great job with Tucker, Erik isn t a new guy any more and I can tell he is serious with Mick, Nice to see the big smile that goes with success. V.P. marathon man C.J. and new comer Mack gets in the ribbons and Jr. Hunter TOC. This Mack dog looks a lot like last years High Point Sr. Dog. So it might be something to watch. Race for the Point Gun Dog- The high point race and the chance for TOC is coming down the wire. Wyatt and Tori are almost deadlocked so it will come down to the last couple. Then Duece and Gunner are going at it for 3 and 4 spot. Sr. Hunter shapes up like this- Karl and Gee-Gee put just a little on Jim and Crown, Slick Slid a little and his kennel friend Gretchen pulled up in forth. There is a pile coming because the 4 th -8 th positions are only separated by about 12 points. Should be an interesting finish and TOC. Jr. Hunter- Looks like Jim and Karl are battling it out here too. Reba and Mick look like they got something going here too. Should be fun having a Jr. Hunter battle and TOC this yr. Awards-Everyone knows that TOC 1 st -4 th gets mounted birds..right?? How did everyone like the vests and coats last year? If you have any suggestions on High Point awards post them up on the forum, for the board to consider. I have an Idea for TOC this year for you all to start considering. I want to set up a sound system of some sort, and instead of calling your dog to the blind on the mega phone we ll just play your dogs intro music kind of like M.M.A. So think about what song you would like for you TOC dog and get ready.

We had a pretty heated race at Pine Hill. Very competitive to say the least. Todd and Brent battled it out in Gun Dog, with Todd getting the edge in the final brace. Congratulations to Todd for winning 2011 High Point in Gun Dog. I think it is worth mentioning that Duke appeared pretty awesome with Bobby Moore this weekend and could be a hot contender at TOC. Karl Von Wolf and Gee-Gee just wouldn t have a bad run all year and he takes Sr. Hunter High Point. Slick and I tried but just couldn t get it closed up. I think Slick is Champion 1 st loser. 3 rd year in top 3! My Vote for most improved dog and handler is going to Karl this year. Congrats Karl. Lisa Paige and Baylee had a real sweet weekend great job. Jazzmine and Debbie came on strong late Sunday. Dave Ayers put up 18 with Co-Co- in Jr. I think this dog looks ready for the big time? Kelly Burns had a great run
