Agility Classes Winter/Spring sessions are held at the Paulus Hay Barn south of Monmouth on Hwy 99W Call the school (541-754-6956) for additional information on location if needed. All 6 week Agility classes are $100.00 Introduction to Agility This class is for people interested in learning the sport of agility. Basic skills such as running with your dog: turning, and stopping. Short, easy drills, many of which you can do at home. Gradual introduction of equipment and instruction on how to practice safe performance on the various elements. This class is directed towards teams that wish to eventually compete, but that is certainly not a requirement. Dogs must be good around other dogs that are running and playing, and will need a decent recall. ( not play keep away) Food and toy interest important. Sept. 21st Thursday 7:00pm Dana Stillinger Oct. 26th Call the school or go in to register. You will be given the location at that time.

Beginners Agility MONDAYS Small sequences that will incorporate all the basic agility obstacles and the basic patterns seen on courses of all the venues. Weaves with aids, such as guides and targeting. Contact zone drills to teach the new dog how to perform the apparatus quickly and correctly. Emphasis on targeting to increase speed and reliability. Moderate distance work to allow the team to work independently when necessary. Teams at this level are not ready for competition yet, but are interested in working smoothly together. Beginners Agility WEDNESDAYS Dana Stillinger This class focuses on beginning coursework for handler/dog teams that have or are developing substantial obstacle performance skills. Short courses will offer beginning handling challenges such as side changes, path management, and situations requiring collection and/or extension. While introducing dogs to new sequences we will also work on solidifying and maintaining obstacle performance objectives. A particular emphasis is on maintaining our positive training practices while in the very distracting agility coursework environment. Ongoing Wednesday 7:30 p.m. Don Lyons

Intro/Intermediate Distance This class will work on building distance handling/dog performance skills including independent obstacle performance, obstacle discrimination and directional changes at moderate distance. Work will be primarily concerned with improving path work skills. The class will involve a combination of skill building exercises and full course performance. Mark training will be used to build distance. The obstacles used in this class will include the dogwalk, A-frame, tunnels, bar jumps, hoops, barrels and weaves. Necessary skills to be in this class: walk on loose lead, walk off lead, stay and recall along with being able to perform the obstacles listed (weaves negotiable). October 3rd Tuesday 7:00 PM Arlene Courtney November 7th Advanced Distance Handling This class will work on increasing distance handling skills to prepare teams for success in competition at the Open and Elite Chances level and for doing Elite Distance Challenge work as well as honing teamwork for other classes. We will also discuss course design philosophy and handling options. Necessary skills: independent obstacle performance, directional change and obstacle discrimination at moderate distance. Please email Best Friends at bestfriendsddc@peak.org if you are a first time participant in this class. October 3rd Tuesday 8:00 PM Arlene Courtney November 7th

Ready To Run MONDAYS This class will focus mostly on USDAA and AKC style course work. Dogs should know all the equipment but handlers and dogs will learn handling techniques and training drills to increase their success at trials. Apr. 17th Monday 9:00 am Dana Stillinger May 22nd Dogs are competing in NADAC, AKC, USDAA, CPE. Ready To Run WEDNESDAYS This class focuses on coursework - each week two or more courses will be run. Courses will incorporate challenges from several venues, but primarily from NADAC and USDAA. Participants should be prepared to run complete courses with dogs able to perform all types of obstacles.
