AGILITY: 527-5255 Janet B. 767-6798 Anna J. APPLICATIONS: Can be found on our web site www.ocodb.org Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed herein do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of Presiden ts Message, Dear members: Next Meeting 7:00 PM Monday November 14, 2016 Voting on Mats and Standing Rules It s hard to believe that another year in our training center will soon be ending. Working in excellent conditions has allowed us to train more consistently and simply makes the process more enjoyable. The next few months will be busy for OCOD with our Rally trial in December and Agility trial in January. Do you want to improve your dog s performance? Volunteer to help at one or both of our trials. We bring in some high level competitors and just watching them from the sidelines will help you work with your dog. After many months of work (my schedule has been the biggest holdup) we will soon launch our new web site which will be streamlined and easier to use. We have taken the many comments into account and it will be a work in progress for some time but I believe our members will be pleased. Since our October membership meeting was cancelled due to the storm, we will have several topics to discuss at the November meeting. Please join us if you can and participate in the membership interaction that makes OCOD special. Experienced dog enthusiasts bring us great ideas from other areas and those new to dog activities bring ideas from the other organizations they experienced. Everyone has something to offer. Enjoy the beautiful weather with your dogs. This is the season we dream of all year long. Pat Mozden

Page 3 November 2016 Chatter-Barks Due to the hurricane and meeting cancelled the items below will be voted on at the November meeting. Important Notice regarding the October General meeting: Items to be discussed and voted on. Security Cameras. We have been talking about installing security cameras in the Training Center for the last several months but ran into a number of roadblocks. Each proposal we considered was either too expensive or required expertise we don t have within the club. At the September meeting, we were told of a generous offer: a local company would donate a gently used security camera system and we would only have to pay for installation. That is projected to cost $600 or less. This is far less than other similar systems and would provide a professionally installed system to the club. Mats in the Training Center. Our mats are wearing to a point that they will need to be replaced in the near future. After extensive research and discussion, we are considering mats that are custom made for dog training. Here s why. To replace the green mats for the 4 rings we have now plus the puppy room would cost approximately $20,000 and we may get 3 years (4 at best) of use from them. Over 10 years it s entirely possible we would replace them 3 times. The custom mats have a life expectancy of 10 years and it s very possible they would last longer. We have priced out covering the entire front room (not just the 4 rings) plus the puppy room. We will need to have them installed and purchase a couple pieces of cleaning equipment. The total for all of this is expected to cost between $50,000 and $60,000. This investment would give us the finest training/trialing surface for dogs that exists today. Dues will only start October 2017, however the Initiation Fee starts December 2016 Standing Rules Change to be VOTED on at the October meeting.
