January 14, 2009 Tideline Aquatics Store Hours Monday Friday 11am-7pm Saturday 10am-6pm Sundays 1pm-5pm HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! First, we d like to wish you all a happy and prosperous 2009! We have big plans for Tideline Aquatics starting with new lower prices on many of the products you purchase regularly. We are working with our suppliers to obtain better discounts to pass on to you! We ve just dropped the prices of all Current USA T5 Lighting Systems. Many of the marine fish now have lower prices and we are working to get even better pricing on our already low priced freshwater fish. Just today a gentleman came into the store with some cichlids he d just purchased at a store off Savannah Highway. He wanted to add more fish and was not sure of what he had just purchased. Tideline Aquatics had the same fish species, of the same size for over $30.00 LESS than he had just paid (and the fish that he had been sold were not all even compatible!). With these tough economic times, we want to allow you to keep your aquarium IN the budget so keep an eye out for lower prices at Tideline. We were supposed to get you good folks out a newsletter last week but as you may have read or heard, one of the programs we use was giving me (Chris) BIG headaches after my virus program downloaded an update. After nearly 6 hours of working with customer support people from both companies, the program was still being blocked from opening on my computer. Well after MUCH frustration I happened to remember something a good friend of mine had told me years ago when a computer issue arose. He had told me to put my problem in a Google search to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue. Well, I did that and sure enough numerous people had experienced the same problem after the virus scan update. Several of them had posted exactly how to fix the problem! So after 6 hours with these customer support teams and no luck in fixing the problem, I followed the instructions posted on how to fix it and after literally 10 minutes everything was fixed and working properly!! I just thought I d share this information with you in the event you ever have a computer program issue. Hopefully it will save you time and frustration! THE TIDELINE AQUATICS AQUARIUM GIVE-A-WAY WINNER! WENDY POKER WAS THE WINNER OF THE 80 GALLON BOWFRONT CHRISTMAS PACKAGE!

Congratulations to Wendy Poker for winning the Tideline Aquatics Christmas Aquarium Give-A- Way Package! Wendy just started keeping fish in 2008 after acquiring a betta. Soon she upgraded to keeping fancy Chinese goldfish (pictures of them are on our customer photo gallery on the website) and had recently purchased a 29 gallon aquarium for them as they had grown. We were lucky enough to acquire a tank bred pair of the rarely seen Betta brownorum! They have been placed in our show planted tank by the front door. This rare betta is originally from the dark peat swamps of Indonesia where the ph of the water is 4.0-5.0. Unfortunately, cities have been formed along many of the sites this fish was once found destroying its environment. This fish is mainly found these days as tank bred specimens only. What is unique about this betta is that they are known to build bubble nests to spawn OR they can be mouth-brooders. This is an extremely peaceful betta species and should only be kept by an experienced hobbyist in a well-planted soft water aquarium. These fish are expensive too! This is a secretive species so see if you get a glance of these beauties during your next visit to Tideline. HARDY FAIRY WRASSES FOR THE MARINE OR REEF AQUARIUM She had stated that if she won the aquarium, she was going to move her Chinese goldfish there BUT after winning the tank, she could not resist the desire to set it up as a saltwater fish-only aquarium. As you can see above, it already has her first fish in it a Dogface Puffer named Reef! Once again, Congratulations Wendy!! Thank you to everyone that put there name in for the Christmas aquarium give-a-way package. A MALE CARPENTER S FAIRY WRASSE DISPLAYING ITS LOVELY FINS! RARE! BETTA BROWNORUM PAIR A MALE FILAMENTED FAIRY WRASSE IN FULL COLOR DISPLAYING ITS FILAMENTED DORSAL!

Both the Carpenter s Fairy (Parcheilinus carpenteri) and the Filamented Fairy Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus are often referred to as flasher wrasses as they dart out into the open water and flash their incredible fins into full display. Both of these wrasses are hardy BUT they must be kept with peaceful tankmates. When first introduced, fairy wrasses are quite shy and will often dart behind an ornament or into the live rock when approached. Within a week though, they overcome this shyness and are bold eaters that actively swim about the aquarium. Fairy wrasses can be kept in groups without harm to one another in most cases. In fact, on the reef these fish are found in harems with one or two males showing off to a group of females. We currently have males that are about 3 long. At full size these fish can reach about 4-5. The carpenters and the filamented fairy wrasses accept both frozen and freeze-dried meaty foods like mysis shrimp, formula one, marine cuisine, dried shrimp, small krill and even flake foods once established. As with all fairy wrasses, these fish are easily intimidated by more aggressive species like triggerfish, large pufferfish and other larger wrasse species. Like most marine fish, fairy wrasses should be acclimated slowly using a drip acclimator or by slowly mixing your aquarium water into the bag with our water for an hour to an hour and half to make adjustments in salinity less stressful. Fairy wrasses do not burrow into the substrate like many other wrasse species. These fish are safe with all invertebrates except for the tiniest of shrimp and crabs. NEW CARIBSEA PRODUCTS NOW IN STOCK AT TIDELINE: AragaMight This is the perfect product for adding to all of your reverse osmosis top-off water for your reef or marine aquarium. This product supplies calcium and carbonate as well as a full suite of trace elements to the top-off water. It is also perfect for adding to water being used in African cichlid aquariums and aquariums housing alkaline loving water like mollies and brackish water fish. AragaMilk This is a time release buffer that will not quickly swing the ph of the water like many other buffers. Each 16oz bottle contains a full pound of buffer from ground aragonite. This product is also excellent for African cichlid aquariums and brackish water environments. BufferPlus This new formulation not only buffers the ph but it also boosts the alkalinity of the water. It also contains calcium, strontium and magnesium for robust and vibrant corals and invertebrates. ReefCal This is 100,000ppm ionic calcium solution. It will raise calcium levels by 5ppm per capful per 25 gallons of water! An excellent choice for boosting calcium levels in the aquarium. PurpleUp This is the same excellent product for boosting coralline algae growth but now with new packaging. Remember that PurpleUp should be used in conjunction with a calcium supplement such as ReefCal. PhosBuster Pro Phosphates be gone! This product removes phosphates in minutes not days. It is safe for all reef tanks, marine tanks, freshwater tanks and planted aquarium for fast removal of phosphates. Each 8oz bottle removes at least 1.5ppm phosphates in up to 250 gallons of water. PhosBuster Pro may be used regularly as a preventative maintenance program safely. AmmoBuster Extreme This is a one step water conditioner that eliminates ammonia, chlorine, chloramines, detoxifies heavy metals (even copper), adds a slime coat for your fish, adds essential electrolytes, boosts alkalinity, neutralizes nitrite thus reducing fish stress. AquaBiotic Boost Using beneficial waste reducing bacteria, AquaBiotic Boost cleans debris from the gravel or sand, minimizes toxic ammonia, nitrite, nitrate waste and removes odors from your aquarium. For fresh and saltwater aquariums. AquaBiotic Botanical For freshwater aquariums, this product contains liquid barley extract, beneficial waste reducing bacteria and enzymes for a total natural approach to aquarium maintenance including high water clarity. Safe for all softwater freshwater fish.

BioMagnet The ultimate water clarifier for fresh and saltwater aquariums! This product seeks out and encapsulates suspended particles in the water enabling them to be captured by the aquariums filtration system. Particles caught in the filter are broken down by bacteria and suspended bacteria are now repositioned onto strata where they are most efficient giving your aquarium crystal clear water fast and safe. New Freshwater & Saltwater Substrates Added to Tidelines already extensive Caribsea substrates we now have Eco-Complete Red Live Plant Substrate, Instant Aquarium Freshwater Sunset Gold Sand, Torpedo Beach Freshwater Sand, Peace River Fine Natural Gravel, Bimini Pink Marine Sand Substrate, Pacific Black Ocean Direct Substrate, Hawaiian Black (our favorite) Marine Substrate and new smaller bags perfect for nano-sized aquariums! Check all of these new products out at the store during your next visit! IS YOUR GARDEN POND READY TO GO ON TOUR THIS SUMMER?! The Charleston Showa Koi Club is now in search of new ponds to add to their already extensive line-up of beautiful koi and garden ponds for Pond Tour 2009. If you would like to consider adding your pond to the tour, please send me (Chris) and email to: chris@tidelineaquatics.net I will forward your information to the pond scouts that will contact you and set up and appointment to come by and check out your pond to see if it is ready for this year s tour. Be sure to include your full name, complete address and a contact phone number where you can be reached when sending me your email. Don t be shy, let others enjoy the beauty that is your garden pond this summer! DID YOU KNOW? that many of the fish stores in the Charleston area offer you NO warranty on saltwater fish! Tideline Aquatics offers you a 3 day conditional warranty on ALL livestock purchases (feeder fish not included). All we ask is that you bring us a sample of your water to ensure it was safe for the fish. Even if the water is unsafe, Tideline Aquatics STILL offers you a 50% credit toward a new fish once your water quality is again safe..that one of the local aquarium stores refuses to treat their marine fish for parasites with copper!? Instead, they use a reef safe product that RARELY works in killing marine parasites successfully. In nearly every case, it merely slows the spread of the disease so when you take them out of that treatment, the fish (and your other fish) soon develop a full blown parasite outbreak. At Tideline, all of our marine fish housed in our main systems are treated with copper upon arrival. We will even hold your purchase for a full 7 days at the store to reduce the chance of a parasite outbreak. Even the Charleston Aquarium had to use copper to kill parasites in their systems. Copper treatments are the ONLY method for eradicating marine parasites completely.

that Tideline Aquatics refuses to stock fish that do not survive in captivity. Most of the local stores and on-line stores still sell fish like Spotted (clown) Sweetlips, Ribbon Eels, Bluespot Stingrays, Orange Spot Filefish, Singapore Angelfish, Pinnatus Batfish, Cleaner Wrasses, Copperbanded Butterflyfish among others none of which live for more than a month in captivity in nearly every case! Tideline does not promote the collection of species that do not live in captivity. You should do the same and allow the species listed above to thrive in the wild instead of starving to death in the home aquarium. that Tideline Aquatics does not sell fish that are artificially colored with dyes or tattooed fish. Painted glass fish, blueberry tetras, raspberry tetras, I Love U parrotfish, mixed berry frogs and others are all injected or tattooed with color. These fish are actually injected with colored dyes or tattooed with markings to make them more appealing to the eye with fake colors! Do not promote this practice by refusing to buy fish that have been abused by these practices. At Tideline Aquatics we want your aquarium to be successful. We are here to help you in any way we can by offering you quality service, healthy livestock, knowledgeable experienced staff members and a guarantee that we will stand behind our products and our livestock completely. All we ask is that you support us by making Tideline Aquatics your aquarium store of choice. WHAT S NEW AT tideline aquatics?
