Lions, Lioness and Leos: This year s convention will highlight a year of growth and harmony for District 14-A. It began on July 1, 2015 with the addition of 25 Lions Clubs, 2 Lioness Clubs and 11 Leo Clubs from Montgomery County and continued with the addition of the Temple University Lions Club and many more new individual club members. Today, District 14-A stands out above all other Pennsylvania Lions Districts. Your accomplishments and goals have earned you our sincere gratitude and thanks for being the Beacon of Light within your communities. Our this year is taking place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in historic Trevose, Bucks County, on Saturday, April 2, 2016. You will have the opportunity to make new friends, share ideas and most importantly, feel good for all you do for Lionism. Please plan to attend and be sure to register by March 19, 2016. SATURDAY MORNING An opening ceremony will kick-off our full day of events at 9:00 AM. Next up are a selection of morning seminars, which include: New Member Orientation Attendees will learn the who, what, and why of Lionism. You can take part in a lively Q&A session which will cover what happens at the District, State, and International levels. Or maybe you have ambitions to become a Lion leader, if so, this seminar is for you. Club Finances and Administration If you are a club Secretary or Treasurer and would like to hone your skills when it comes to preparing and submitting forms and reports, here is your chance. Ask questions and share ideas pertaining to the day-to-day recordkeeping related to your club s membership and activities. Necrology Service A memorial service honoring the Lions and Lioness members of our District who have passed away over the past year. THROUGHOUT THE DAY We will be holding a Used Eyeglass Collection Contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to the three clubs bringing in the most eyeglasses: $50.00 for first, $35.00 for second, and $20.00 for third place. All other contributing clubs will be entered into a random drawing for another $20.00 cash prize. Eyeglasses must be dropped off after 8:00 AM but no later than 10:30 AM at the front entrance to the hotel. They are to be packed in sealed cartons with both the count and club name clearly marked on the outside of each carton. NEW FOR THIS YEAR: If you have already donated eyeglasses to another organization (benefiting the visually impaired) this past year, those totals will be entered into a separate contest upon presentation of their receipt acknowledging the number of pairs that were donated. Those receipts must be turned in no later than 10:30 AM The club in this category with the highest total will win $25.00. Contest winners will be announced at the evening banquet. The exhibit area will be open for viewing from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Every club is invited to set up a brag board display to show others what they have done over the years. To better inform our members of what is being done on a District level, we are urging each District Committee to prepare a display board for the exhibit area. Businesses and organizations in the area who manufacture or distribute products or provide services used by Lions worldwide in their pursuit of cures for blindness, hearing problems or diabetes, are also encouraged to present displays. Setup is from 7:30 to 8:30 AM. All displays must be dismantled and out of the exhibit room by 4:00 PM. (continued)

(continued) We are encouraging pin-trading, for which space will be provided in the exhibit area. We are requesting your club s contribution to our Basket Raffle. The variety baskets are always a big hit with attendees, hotel staff and passers-by alike. Baskets must be delivered to the hotel by 9:00 AM Saturday morning. SATURDAY AFTERNOON Our Model Luncheon will feature International Director Ed Farrington and his wife, Lion Elaine, members of the Milford Lions Club (44-N) in Milford, NH. ID Ed is a nationally recognized motivational speaker, and his message is sure to inspire all of us. Following the luncheon, the afternoon seminars will provide additional opportunities for learning and development: Roundtable Q&A with ID Ed Farrington The perfect opportunity to find out what s happening at LCI. Your questions will steer the discussion with ID Farrington. Lioness Program Lion Elaine Farrington, wife of ID Ed Farrington, will address the 14-A Lioness with topics which will reinforce why the Lioness do what they do for Lionism. Zone Chairperson Seminar Discussions will focus on the vital roles that Zone Chairpersons perform, serving as the liaison between clubs and the District leadership. The afternoon concludes with a District Caucus at 3:45 PM, followed by our annual elections. Voting will convene at 4:15 PM. SATURDAY EVENING A delightful evening will begin with a social hour at 5:00 PM (cash bar will be available), to be followed by our Lion, Lioness, and Leo Convention Banquet, where we will honor our retiring District Governor and the past year s District and Club officers. Only those officers in attendance will be honored at this banquet. The evening concludes with the Melvin Jones Fellowship ceremony. All new MJF recipients will be inducted with an uplifting candlelight service emphasizing the spirit of Lionism as portrayed by Melvin Jones. We encourage all clubs to take an active role in both supporting and participating in this year s convention. Donate a basket, place an ad in the convention booklet, collect some $2 patron donations but above all, plan to attend! There s a lot going on, and lots of good information to take back to your clubs. This is the perfect venue to keep in touch and up to date with what s happening in Lionism at large, and particularly within District 14-A. Please note the deadline for reservation, as the discount for meal prices expires after March 19. MAKE IT A WEEKEND! Rooms are available at the Crowne Plaza, for those who would like to spend the night on site. The room rate is $116 +9% per night if the reservation is made prior to March 1, 2016. Check-in starts at 4 PM, check-out by 11 AM. Contact the hotel directly at 215-364-2000, mention the Lions Convention on April 2nd. Hope to see you there!
