At Niels Broeckx (Oud-Turnhout, BE) they re busy having a great season! At Niels Broeckx they succeeded in the season of 2013 to enter 9 x the top 10 provincial with a provincial victory as the cherry on the pie. With marvelous stock pigeons and a strict plan the Broeckx family is working their place to the top as a really well oiled machine. In 2014 and 2015 they continue in getting great results and are having at the moment a season to bow for. This with exceptional pigeons which succeed to place themselves in the high national regions week after week. A short introduction Niels Broeckx is the son of Jan en Marleen Broeckx. The family moved in 2007 from Baarle-hertog to Oud-Turnhout. In Baarle-Hertog (Baarle-Nassau) they were already known under the name Jan Broeckx. Jan again is the son of Broeckx-Van Hees (Oud-Turnhout), also very known and good long distance fanciers. Pigeons from the loft Broeckx-Van Hees aren t just doing well on their own loft (thinking of the top Olympiad breeding couple Miss Gran Canaria & Mister Turbo Bazel) but fanciers as Koen Minderhoud, Hans Eijerkamp&Zn, Nico-Jan Koenders and many others are succeeding with Broekcx-Van Hees pigeons. Maybe it is time to make a pedigree from the Broeckx family so everyone knows who is Leo, Jan or Niels also because of the fact that their wives Maria Van Hees and Marleen Govaerts are actively part of the team. The Broeckx family: Niels, Marleen en Jan
306 ke, a star at the loft The yearling hen managed to fly 3 weeks after each other in the top 15 national! I can t find another bird who has done this. Underneath you can find an overview of the flown results of this year. After Bourges II Marleen and Jan decided to keep her at home. The risk of losing such an exceptional pigeon was keeping them awake at night. And we can go on like this for a while. The pigeons on the loft are a mixture of their own strong strain, where father Leo Broeckx and mother Maria Van Hees worked on for years, with pigeons from f.e. Bart&Nance Van Oeckel, Bart Geerinckx, Van Ostayen, Paul Voeten, Gaston Van de Wouwer and neighbor Luc Van Mechelen. The strong results, as you can see on the pedigrees, are a mixture of these pigeons. Training and nursing Pigeons are trained since 2012 with a lot of regularity which off course needs a strict schedule. Pigeons remain on the loft from September until half March. Then they start training around the loft. Just before the season, half April, the pigeons will be trained within one week. They take them to Ronquières and after that the first short distance flight is a fact. During the season their training schedule looks like this: Half 6 6 o oclock : yearling hens, a bit later the old hens are released so the yearling hens can train a bit longer. They train about one hour 7 o clock half 8 : widowers around half 10 : youngsters around 1800 : widowers against darkness : again the hens for at least one hour As you can notice the pigeons train twice a day except for the youngsters, only on Sunday they normally don t train. The tasks are well divided what the nursing of the pigeons is concerned. Niels task is to give the birds fresh water every day and he cleans the drinking pots every Saturday. Marleen feeds the pigeons and cleans the lofts and Jan is occupied with the breeding, selecting and the game itself during the season. Marleen takes care of the youngsters and Jan of the old birds. They play total widowhood, their partners stay at home.

Lofts Breeding loft The racing loft is 27 m long and arranged really practical. The long corridor is about one meter wide and can be opened in the full length which makes that there s enough space to get to the separate lofts and enough air can pass through. Another specialty in the corridor is the conveyor underneath. You can find conveyors in the lofts but a conveyor in the corridor is another thing. They just didn t buy that somewhere (as they couldn t find it) so it was totally self designed and fabricated. Not by Jan and Marleen themselves but by someone they know and has knowledge of these things. One push on the button and it takes exactly 50 sec. to have it cleaned.

And last but not at all least I want you to meet Silko, the guardian of the pigeons. Don t try to get to the pigeons without Jan or Marleen or you will meet him really close.
