A HOLIDAY NOTE FROM THE EDITOR As we draw to the close of another year - I would like to thank each of you for your dedicated effort, volunteered time, and your monetary contributions during 2006 to save these wonderful Papillon dogs. Our volunteers are our most valuable asset. Thank you to each and everyone one of you who have so generously given their time and effort to support Pap911. The Holiday Season is the time when we open our hearts and homes to our families and to others that may be less fortunate. It is wonderful to know that our members embrace this spirit all year long to help the Paps in need. As we now look ahead to the coming New Year, we need your continued support in 2007 to save the many forgotten Papillon dogs in the puppymills. Thank you so much. PAP911 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MERRY CHRISTMAS Lyn (President), Ande, Ann, Cindy, Colleen, Doug, Elke, & Kathy (can you tell who is who in this pic?) While it may be nice to run into your sweetie under this traditional holiday plant, mistletoe can be potentially toxic to our animal companions. Found throughout the United States, American mistletoe is actually a parasitic plant that lives off a variety of different tree species. If ingested in large enough quantities, mistletoe can potentially
MISTLETOE (CONTD) produce gastrointestinal irritation in pets, causing excessive thirst and urination, a drop in blood pressure and heart rate, seizures, coma and even death. According to our experts at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), however, most animal ingestions involve small quantities not more than the amount found in a sprig or two and typically result in mild stomach upset that resolves with little or no treatment. Remember, if you suspect that your pet has ingested a potentially toxic substance, contact your local veterinarian or the APCC at (888) 426-4435. For more pet poison prevention tips, visit ASPCA.org. WEBMUTTSTER DOG SHOW COMING IN JANUARY 2007 Submitted by: Ande Tallarida Papillon 911 Rescue will be hosting the second annual Webmuttster Dog Show. This event will be taking place from January 1 through February 14, 2007. This event is open to all dogs that have been adopted or fostered by a rescue group, or adopted/ fostered from a shelter that also includes a stray dog that has become part of your family. Get those cameras ready and take pictures of your pooches. In 2006 Webmuttster was started as a fundraiser for Pap911, and to share some of the proceeds with other rescues/shelters. It was also a way to have a little fun. There is a $5.00 donation fee to enter. Four of the placing dogs will receive a portion of the proceeds for their shelter or rescue. There are prizes for the all the categories. WEBMUTTSTER (CONTD) Best Rescue Athlete - this can be agility or dog tricks; Best Canine Citizen - Therapy dogs that visit Hospitals and nursing homes, etc; Best Dressed - This is for fun, and is for the FuFoo dogs and clothes hounds. All the little girlies that get dressed-up in their prettiest frocks, and for the boys who sport their finest coat, sweater or hat. There will be a winner for each gender. Webmuttster is the only On-line Rescue Show, and is a way to learn about other rescues and their dogs - that information is invaluable. The more we know about each other, the more the animals benefit. This year we added additional categories and make improvements. Last year we had a great turn out and we are hoping for even more contestants this year. In rescue we have to support each other and we are grateful to those that have supported Webmuttser. Last year s winners were: Juneau Best in Show Joey Most Photogenic Shamus Biggest Ham Atilla The Hunny Honorable Mention Watch our web site for the entry form, rules and additional information. ww.pap911.rescuegroups.org CATEGORIES FOR FOR THE 2007 WEBMUTTSTER DOG SHOW Best In Show; Most Photogenic; Biggest Ham; Honorable Mention; Best Rescue Survivor the winner will be judged by their bio;
