OBEDIENCE CLASSIC DESCRIPTION The AKC Obedience Classic is a two day competition. In the Novice, Open and Utility Classes the handler/dog team will compete a total of three times. In the Masters Class the handler/dog team will compete a total of six times, three times in Open and three times in Utility. Entries will be limited to 72 in Novice, 64 in Open, 56 in Utility and 56 in Masters. An email confirmation will be issued when the entry is processed. When entry limits have been met, a waitlist will be kept. If an entry is cancelled prior to the closing date for entries (October 1 st ), a dog that has been wait listed for that class will be confirmed in the event. Notifications will be sent to advise if your dog has been wait listed or accepted in the event. DOG ELIGIBILITY All dogs meeting the following requirements are eligible to enter the event, which will be held in conjunction with the 2014 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and the 2014 AKC Agility Invitational. In addition, FCI membership countries will also be invited to send teams of up to three dogs to this event. Qualifying Period July 1, 2013 June 30, 2014 Novice Class Eligibility o Must have earned a CD title, during the qualifying period o After earning the CD title, a dog must earn three (3) more qualifying scores in the Novice class (A and/or B), or one (1) HIT award Each dog entered in the Novice class will compete a total of three (3) times over the two day event. Open Class Eligibility o Must have earned a CDX title, during the qualifying period o After earning the CDX title, a dog must earn three (3) more qualifying scores in the Open class (A and/or B), or one HIT award Each dog entered in the Open class will compete a total of three (3) times over the two day event. Utility Class Eligibility o Must have earned a minimum of the UD title o A dog must earn six (6) qualifying scores in the Utility class (A and/or B), during the qualifying period o OTCH titled dogs may not enter this class Each dog entered in the Utility class will compete a total of three (3) times over the two day event. Masters Class Eligibility Open and Utility o Must have earned a minimum of the UD title o A dog must earn six (6) qualifying scores of 193 or better in Open B, during the qualifying period and o A dog must earn six (6) qualifying scores of 193 or better in Utility B, during the qualifying period o OTCH titled dogs may enter this class Each dog entered in the Masters class will compete a total of six (6) times over the two day event; three (3) in the Open Class and three (3) in the Utility Class. DOGS MAY ONLY BE ENTERED IN ONE CLASS, NOVICE, OPEN, UTILITY OR MASTERS AND SHOULD BE ENTERED IN THE HIGHEST LEVEL CLASS FOR WHICH THEY HAVE QUALIFIED. 3
OFFICIAL AKC OBEDIENCE ENTRY FORM The Official Entry Form will be accepted beginning on Monday July 21, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. EST. The entry form can be located on the Obedience Classic Webpage, http://www.akc.org/events/obedience/classic/. ENTRIES NOT ON THE OFFICIAL AKC OBEDIENCE CLASSIC ENTRY FORM OR PHOTOCOPIES OF THE ENTRY FORM without the Agreement and Rules on the reverse side are NOT ACCEPTABLE. No entry shall be made or accepted, which specifies any conditions as to its acceptance. Entry forms will not be accepted by hand delivery or phone. OBEDIENCE CLASSIC ROSETTES, AWARDS & PRIZES Awards are based on cumulative scores except for the Parent Club Medallion Awards. o AKC Parent Club Top Dog Medallion by Breed if an AKC Parent Club has chosen to sponsor this award it will be presented to the dog of that breed with the single highest score from any one ring at the conclusion of the event. An award medallion with a neck ribbon will be presented during the awards ceremony. FCI International Dogs are not eligible for the AKC Parent Club Medallions, unless they competed in AKC events during the qualifying period and met the dog eligibility requirements, see page 3. PUBLICATION RIGHTS PHOTOGRAPHS & VIDEOS By entering this show, all owners, handlers, breeders and kennels agree that all rights to televise, videotape, photograph, advertise, promote and publicize or otherwise exploit this show, or the persons or animals participating in it or the results of the competition before, during or after the event, shall belong solely to Eukanuba and The American Kennel Club and their respective assigns, including the use of the names, likenesses or biographical matter of all dogs, owners, handlers, breeders and kennels participating in the show and no such owner, handler, breeder or kennel shall allow any other party to make commercial use of any videotape or photograph of any person or animal participating in this competition. NOTE: By entering this show all owners, handlers, breeders and kennels agree to make themselves available for interview if requested. Exhibitors may video tape individual runs only for personal use. NOTICES TO ALL EXHIBITORS EXHIBITOR CHECK IN: Exhibitors will be allowed to check in and set up on Friday, December 12 th. If you cannot check in until Saturday morning you must do so 30 minutes prior to the start of the event. You will receive your armband, event catalog and an event souvenir bag and any preordered souvenirs at check in. Once the time and location for check in is determined for Friday check in all exhibitors will receive an email notification. Exhibitors MUST check in at each ring, each day. CRATING: Each dog entered in the AKC Obedience Classic will be allotted one 3 x5 space. Unentered dogs will only be allowed in the facility if they can share the crate with an entered dog, or if their crate can be stacked on top of an entered dog s crate within the 3 x 5 space. A crate is defined as having a top, bottom and 4 walls, all interconnecting, thus preventing the dog from escaping. Each exhibitor will be required to display an information card on the outside of each crate; card(s) will be supplied at check in. The information card must have your name and emergency contact information (cell phone # or other). No ex pens will be allowed in the facility. No dogs are permitted to be crated or groomed on any carpeted area. ENTRY FEES: Entry fees are required with each entry and shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused by Veterinarian or Judge, or barred from competition by action of the Event Committee. A $25.00 returned check fee will be charged for any checks returned. CANCELLATION OF ENTRY: Requests to cancel an entry will be allowed up until the closing date, and time, Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at 4:00 pm EST. You may cancel your entry via email sent to OBClassic@akc.org or by fax at 919 816 4204. Refunds for cancellations will be made within 45 days after the closing date for the event. No entry fee will be refunded if the trial cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, an act of God, public emergency, act of a public enemy, or any other cause beyond the control of the organizing committee. No entry fee will be refunded in the event a dog is absent, disqualified, excused, or barred from competition by the action of the Event Committee. 7
NOTICE TO ALL EXHIBITORS REFUNDS FOR BITCHES IN SEASON: entry fees will be refunded if the Trial Secretary is notified no later than one half hour prior to the start of the event. Vet statements must be provided to the Trial Secretary in writing and may be emailed to OBClassic@akc.org. ALL DOGS MUST BE ON LEASH: Dogs must be on leash held by the handler at all times while on the event grounds except when in the ring or when in the designated obedience warm up area. Dogs may NOT be on retractable leads or long lines while inside the building. Failure to maintain control of a dog may result in an Event Committee hearing. SPECIAL TRAINING COLLARS ARE PROHIBITED. WARM UP RING: A warm up ring will be provided for dogs entered in the AKC Obedience Classic and the AKC Junior Classic in accordance with the Obedience Regulations, Chapter 1, Section 33. This ring will be monitored and if there are any problems, the ring will be closed. Exhibitors will be respectful of each other. SAFETY, BEHAVIOR and LIABILITY: The safety of the dog is our primary concern. By entering this trial, exhibitors acknowledge that they are familiar with the rules and regulations of the AKC. It is expressly understood that exhibitors alone are responsible for the behavior of their dogs and/or children. Any exhibitor whose dogs and/or children create an unnecessary disturbance or repeatedly engage in unsafe or disruptive behavior, may, at the discretion of the Event Committee, be asked to leave the show site. In such case, no refund of any fees paid will be made. The American Kennel Club and its agents, employees, etc., will assume no responsibilities for any loss, damage or injury sustained by exhibitors or handlers, or to any of their dogs or property and further assumes no responsibility for injury to children. The American Kennel Club reserves the right to decline entries for cause and may remove any dog on account of aggression. No one shall have any recourse or claim against the American Kennel Club or any official thereof. All dogs must be on leash, which must be held by the handler all times when on trial grounds except when in the designated warm up area or competing in the ring. This year's exhibitor's catalog will be 8.5 X 5.5 inches, allowing a full page ad area of approximately 4.5 X 7.5 inches to post your message and/or picture. Camera ready ads are accepted in highresolution press quality PDFs (preferred). JPEG or TIFF files are also acceptable (minimum 300 pixels/inch). If you are sending photos separately, the photos should be scanned to a finished size and at a minimum of 300 pixels/inch. Do not forget to include the correct orientation. Full page ads MUST be in a portrait orientation, and half page ads MUST be in a landscape orientation. If mailing, please send only high quality photos for scanning purposes. ADDITIONAL SITE INFORMATION A full service food concession is available on site. The American Kennel Club and the Orange County Convention Center will not be responsible for any lost or damaged items left at the show site. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning up after their dog(s) at the show site and hotels. Any exhibitor failing to do so may be excused without benefit of refund if the Event Committee deems the exhibitor to be in violation of this requirement. Cleaning supplies and disposal sites will be available at various locations around the show grounds. Entering/Exiting the Facility a hand stamp must be obtained to regain entry into the area and not all exits will have personnel available to stamp upon leaving the facility. Upon arrival have your hand stamped for the day to avoid a delay in re entry. Review your final confirmation letter for specific locations where stamps will be available.
