BEST OF BREED COMPETITION The following categories of dogs may be entered in this competition: Dogs that are Champions of Record. Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owners' records. JUDGES AW ARD OF MERIT The Club offers an Award of Merit to deserving Labrador Retrievers for recognition of their quality. It is entirely at the judge s decision whether to give all or none of the available Awards. Award of Merits are selected from the Labrador Retrievers in the Best of Breed Competition, other than the Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex winner. The number of Awards is determined to be up to 20% of the Best of Breed entry. NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES NOTE: As the judge s decision in the Non-Regular Classes involving Multiple Dog Entries is based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in these classes will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won these classes. *Stud Dog Class - For dogs that have sired two dogs or bitches entered in this show. The award will be based on the merits of the get. The owner of the stud dog need not be the owner of the get. The Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the regular classes, or if a Champion of Record, in Best of Breed Competition, but MUST be entered in the Stud Dog Class. The Stud Dog must appear in the ring with his get. *Brood Bitch Class Same as for the Stud Dog Class, except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get. *Chapter 11, Section 8 of the Rules Applying to Dog Shows provides that a castrated male may be entered as a Stud Dog in the Stud Dog Class and a spayed bitch may be entered as a Brood Bitch in the Brood Bitch Class. Zeppa Coasters SDLRC THREE-GENERATION MATURITY To stimulate an interest in the progressive improvement of the breed, the Maturity Class will be held in conjunction with the San Diego Labrador Retriever Club s Specialty Show. The Maturity is OPEN TO ALL LABRADOR RETRIEVER EXHIBITORS. The non-regular Maturity Class is offered to all three-generation families with one Dog or Bitch exhibited from each of the three generations, regardless of the sex exhibited. All neutered and spayed Labrador Retrievers are eligible. The Maturity Class is judged much like the Stud Dog or Brood Bitch Classes, except that the merits of ALL THREE GENERATIONS are considered. The three Labrador Retrievers comprising each entry must make up a THREE GENERATION PEDIGREE. DOG/BITCH #1 must be sire or dam of #2; DOG/BITCH #2 must be GET of #1 DOG/BITCH #3 must be GET of #2. Puppies must be at least 6 months of age as of the date of the Maturity. At least one dog/bitch entered in Maturity must also be entered in a regular or non-regular class. Entries must be made at the same time and on the same official AKC entry form as the regular classes. Indicate Maturity in the space provided for Additional Classes. Each dog must have it s own entry form. Entry form must state the names of each dog in the unit. If dog becomes ineligible after the close of entries, the entry must be withdrawn. Entry fee will not be refunded. JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP COMPETITION ~ SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2011 ONLY Novice. This shall be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show and who at the time entries close have not won three (3) first place awards, with competition present, in a Novice Class at a licensed or member show. Open. This class shall be for boys and girls who are at least 9 years old and under 18 years old on the day of the show, and who have won three first place awards in a Novice Class in a licensed or member show, with competition present in the Novice class. Juniors which according to their records have completed the requirements to compete in the Open class but whose status is unconfirmed by the American Kennel Club are limited to competing in the Open Class for a period of 90 days from the date of the show where the Junior completed the requirements according to their records. Eligibility of Dog. Each dog entered in a regular Junior Showmanship Class must be of a breed eligible to compete in the conformation classes (including Miscellaneous Classes) at the event. Dogs may be PAL/ILP, Full-, or Limited-Registered to compete in Junior Showmanship Classes, additionally, spayed and neutered specimens are eligible for competition. Breeds excluded from competition at the event are not eligible. The dog must be entered in one of the classes associated with the event or must be entered for Junior Showmanship only. An eligible dog other than the one entered may be substituted. Such substitution must be accompanied by an official AKC entry form. The junior must have the AKC number of the substitute dog. All such substitutions must be made with the Superintendent or Show Secretary at least one half hour prior to the judging of any Junior Showmanship Classes at the show. Each dog must be owned or co-owned by the Junior Handler or by the Junior Handler s father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandfather, or grandmother, including the corresponding step and half relations, or by a permanent member of the Junior Handler s household as recorded with The American Kennel Club at the time entries close or an application for transfer of ownership must be sent to The American Kennel Club by the new owner within seven days after the last day of the show. BITCHES IN SEASON ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. At a Specialty Show, each dog must be of the breed for which the show is held. A Junior is limited to one substitution at a dog show. If one of the owners of the dog is a judge, the dog may be entered in Junior Showmanship Only to be exhibited by the Junior at an event where the judge is judging classes other than Junior Showmanship. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class with competition present after the closing of entries for a show may transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of any regular conformation judging or one halfhour prior to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the show, whichever is earlier. GENERAL INFORMATION AND SHOW RULES th 1. Entries must reach the Event Secretary, Sharon Licciardi, 38513 12 Street, E., Palmdale, CA 93550 by 6:00pm (PST), Wednesday, February 02, 2011. Fees must accompany entries. This club and/or its event secretary assumes no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. This club and its event secretary assume no responsibility for the owner or owner s agents entering a dog in a class in which the dog is not eligible to compete, or for entering the same dog twice. 2. Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Secretary will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. The returned check must be made good by cash or money order before the dog will be allowed in the ring. 3. Exhibitors conformation slips and judging programs will be mailed to the address given on the entry blank. If not received within a reasonable time prior to the show, notify the secretary. Conformation slips and judging programs returned by the Post Office marked undeliverable will be held by the Secretary. 4. During the hours of judging owners are to be on call, and have their dogs ready to bring into the judging ring promptly, in order that the judging will not be delayed. Dogs need only be present for their judging. Dogs not needed for further judging may be excused. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his dog ready to be shown and at the entrance of the judging ring when the steward calls for the class. Owners of dogs or the handlers of the dogs alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor of any agent of the show-giving club to locate any dog, its owner or handler, when the dog s presence is needed in a judging ring. It should be understood by every exhibitor and handler that waiting for dogs to be brought into the ring is a courtesy extended to the owner or handler of the dog. There is no rule of this club nor of The AKC that requires a judge to wait for an owner or handler to bring his dog into the ring. Show hours 7am-6 pm. 5. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging rings to the person exhibiting the dog, who is considered to be the owner or agent of the owner. All claims for trophies and prizes must be made in the judging ring before the completion of judging the breed. Notify the secretary of any discrepancy. No trophies or prizes will be mailed. 6. Exhibitors are admonished to make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this premium list. Rule books are available at the Secretary s table at the show or may be obtained from the AKC,5580 Centerview Dr., Raleigh, NC 27606. 7. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in the care and custody and control of his owner or handler during the entire time the dog is on the show premises. 8. No grooming tables, pens or exhibitors setups will be allowed in the aisles and all grooming must be done away from the judging ring in areas specified by the club. 9. Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the Bench Show Committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no refund of entry fee for duplicate entry. 10. There is no provision offered for un-entered dogs at this show. 11. Declination of Entries. The Club may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Kennel Club or any official thereof. 12. If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry will be made. 13. Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles. All persons attending this dog show hereby waive any claim for damages against the San Diego Labrador Retriever Club, Inc, its members or agents, in the event a motor vehicle must be entered to rescue a dog from overheating or suffocation due to improper ventilation. 14. Matting is required in all exercise pens. 15. A Recording Fee of 50, a Event Service Fee of $1.50, and a $3.00 Rally Trial Fee will be required for each dog entered at any Licensed or Member Club Show, Obedience Trial, Rally Trial or Tracking Test. These Fees are to be collected by the Showgiving Club and paid to the AKC. If a dog is entered in more than one class at the show, the Recording Fee and Event Service Fee are to be collected on the first entry only (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Section 2). 16. Dogs which according to their owners records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed Competition, provided this transfer is made to the Show Secretary at least one half hour prior to the start of the earliest Conformation judging at the Show. 17. Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class after the Closing of entries for a show may transfer their entry from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made to the Show Secretary at least one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of the earliest conformation judging or one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the Show, whichever is earlier. 18. Dogs which according to their owners records have earned an obedience or rally title after the closing of entries for the show may be moved up to the next class, provided this transfer is made in writing and presented to the Secretary at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each trial. Move-ups may be approved, provided the next level class (i.e. novice to open) and judge are available and the class has not reached its limit. 19. The Club reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. 20. There shall be no drilling nor intensive or corrective training of dogs on the show grounds or premises. 21. All dogs shall be kept on leash except when in the obedience or exercising ring or confined in crates. 22. The welfare of an exhibitor s child is assumed to be the responsibility of the exhibitor.
