A letter from the Robert Leathers of Missouri tells of completing two new championships in Florida recently. Their Leathers Lichtsome Edition needed but a major before the trip, and she took 3 points a t Orlando, June 25th. There Leathers Leesome Leddy scored well, earning 3 Bests of Breed, a Group Second at Greater Miami Dog Club under Louis Murr and a Group Second at Orlando under Percy Roberts. She finished with 8 Bests of Breed, and was bred on the trip to Rossalie Lynch's Ch. Leathers Michty Edition. They made a brief stop in Greenwood, Miss. to see that grand old Ch. Wyrebury Wrangler. a great producer, and the basis for the Leathers bloodlines. Our "Top Ten" in Breed Competition covers shows published in the "Gazette" through April 24th, and no less than 48 different Scotties have earned a t least 1 Best of Breed to this da te. After the individuals named, in parenthesis will appear first the number of points earned (the total number of Scots defeated) a nd then the number of Breed wins. Moving into First place is Ch. Barberry Knowe Blizzard (130-10), while in second place is Ch. Gaidoune Grin And Bear It (125-6). Leading the West, and in third place is the import, Ch. Bardene Bobby Dazzler (115-6), closely pressed by Ch. Bala- chan Night Hawk (109-7) in fourth place. Ch. Stedplane Summerton (65-9) is holding down the fifth spot, while in sixth is this year's only Best in Show winner, the import, Ch. Bardene Bingo (49-6). Still leading the bitches, and in seventh place is Highlander Hey Winona (46-3) now a champion, but all wins recorded were from the classes. Eighth and ninth place are also held by b itches, and both "Westerners".. Ch. Merrilland Miss Misty (41-4) and Marlorain Melanie (39-2). Still another two bitches are tied for the tenth spot, Gadiscot Sugar And Spice (30-2) and Moir Lass (30-4). Six other Scots are close at hand with 20 points or more. Only 2 Bests in Show have been recorded, and "Bingo" earned both. He a lso leads in Group wins, with four, while three Firsts have been earned by "Grin And Bear It". That's about all the local show news but while on a business trip I did manage to stop off at two of the more famous of the English shows. The first was The Scottish Terrier Club of England's Championship Show at Ascot Wood on July 1. I arrived at the show a little late and saw Cliff Hallmark sitting at ringside busily marking his catalog. It was good to see so many old friends and meet so many new, and a particular joy to watch Mr. Willie Gill do the judging honors. Not a youngish man anymore, it was the first time he has jud ged this show and he did it with pride and obvious relish. A man who enjoyed his assignment The entry was superb, composed of 105 d ifferent d ogs, and a sight to see, with 10 and 15 to a class. The dog Certificate was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Palethorp's Bardene Bo Diddly (Bardene Blue Steptoe - Ch. Bardene Be Mine). A magnificent black dog tha t later went on to BOB. The reserve CC went to Miss Jane Miller's Brio Pickpocket (Ch. Kennelgarth Viking - Brio Chorus Girl). In bitches, Mr. Gill gave the Certificate to Mrs. M.A. Micklethwaite's w heaten Glene cker Golden Girl (Ch. Glenview Silver Gilt - Glenecker Silver Hammer) and reserve to Miss Betty Penn Bull's Kennelgarth Black Diamond (Ch. Kennelgarth Viking - Kennel- 23

garth Dairymaid). One of the high points of the day came in the Veterans class. I was more than slightly interested when Ch. Reando Roger Rough came into the ring. This 11 year old pranced and showed like a trooper - he and Mr. Gill both seemed to be having a b all. His win of this class brought a rising ovation from ringside. Age seems not to have caught up with this great dog, a little more grizzled in muzzle and all his teeth not in their proper place, but he still moves and looks a lot younger. Perhaps that same certain something keeps English Scottie breeders so young and fit! After the show the club's annual dinner was held at the Castle Inn in Windsor. Conversation before the meal and after, coupled with several magnificent speeches of reminiscence and recollection, rounded out a most pleasant day. Mr. Gill, in broad Yorkshire tones, spoke of his impressions of the entry. He commented that the bitches were of high quality and this augurs well for the breed. Visitors from not only the U. S. b ut also from South Africa, Scandinavia and Italy were present, adding an interna tional flavor to the affair. Mr. Ross' (NIDBANK) introduction of the visitors was both gracious and reckless. He allowed that I was available to be held accountable for previous "TT"' colums. So there be no misunderstanding, my hasty retreat after dinner was to catch the last train back to London. The next day, Saturday, was the Windsor Championship Show, held at the great park under the shadow of the towers and ramparts of Windsor Castle. Mr. Fred Gee of the Glenview Prefix judged a magnificent entry of 106 composed of 68 dogs, and sele cted Gosmore Gillsie Scotch (Continued on Page 47) Carnation SCOTTISH TERRIERS w.i.. " " - CH.
