The objective of Puppy Preschool and Basic Dog Obedience classes is to instruct you in successful training methods that teach your dog manners, control, to understand and obey basic commands (such as; Come, Sit, Stay, Down, Heel, and Stand), and to assist you in modifying unacceptable dog behavior. The Advanced Class builds on the Basic Obedience skills, and provides many opportunities for recreational interaction with your dog through Off-Lead Heeling, Hand Signals, Retrieving, Jumping, and Agility Instruction. The Therapy / Service Dog Training teaches you & your dog etiquette & skills for navigating in Public Facilities, & interacting appropriately with people, including those with disabilities. PLEASE READ THROUGH THE FOLLOWING CLASS REGULATIONS PRIOR TO CLASS 1. All dogs must be current on all vaccinations (Rabies & DHLPPC, & Bordetella). Dogs must also be free of parasites, both external (fleas, mange, etc.) and internal (dogs must have tested negative for Heartworm or have been on the preventative year-round, and must have had a negative Fecal test within the last 6 months). The Medical Information section on the registration form must be completed and signed by a veterinarian before the dog may attend classes. 2. You are responsible for cleaning up any accidents your dog has during class, so bring paper towels and plastic bags with you to class. It is advisable to feed your dog at least 4 hours before or following class, and to exercise your dog prior to class to reduce the risk of accidents. 3. If your dog is sick or in heat, do not bring it to class. You should come to class without your dog so that you can learn the new skills, and continue to work with your dog at home. 4. You are responsible for controlling your dog at all times. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and should never be permitted to make contact with each other, unless otherwise instructed. 5. HANDLERS MUST BE AT LEAST 8 YEARS OLD. HANDLERS UNDER 18 YEARS OLD MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AT ALL TIMES. 6. Handlers should wear comfortable, rubber-soled shoes to class. 7. All members of the dog s household are encouraged to participate in classes. There should, however, be only one person handling or interacting with the dog at any time (an adult should assist a youth handler as needed). All family members handling a dog should attend all classes. EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR CLASS: 1. 6-foot leather or nylon-web leash (do not use a chain leash). 2. Chain training collar: The chain collar should be no more than 2 longer than the circumference of your dog s neck at its narrowest (just behind your dog s ears) and should slip easily over the dog s head. Chain collars are provided to Puppy Preschool participants during training. YOUR DOG SHOULD COME TO THE FIRST CLASS WEARING ITS REGULAR COLLAR (NOT THE CHAIN COLLAR), AS THE CHAIN COLLAR CAN CAUSE INJURY IF PUT ON OR USED INCORRECTLY. 3. Paper towel and plastic bags 4.
