Official Standard for the Miniature Pinscher General Appearance - The Miniature Pinscher is structurally a well-balanced, sturdy, compact, shortcoupled, smooth-coated dog. He naturally is well groomed, proud, vigorous and alert. Characteristic traits are his hackney-like action, fearless animation, complete self-possession, and his spirited presence. Size, Proportion, Substance - Size- 10 inches to 12 1/2 inches in height allowed, with desired height 11 inches to 11 1/2 inches measured at highest point of the shoulder blades. Disqualification - Under 10 inches or over 12 1/2 inches in height. Length of males equals height at withers. Females may be slightly longer. Head - In correct proportion to the body. Tapering, narrow with well fitted but not too prominent foreface which balances with the skull. No indication of coarseness. Eyes full, slightly oval, clear, bright and dark even to a true black, including eye rims, with the exception of chocolates, whose eye rims should be self-colored. Ears set high, standing erect from base to tip. May be cropped or uncropped. Skull appears flat, tapering forward toward the muzzle. Muzzle strong rather than fine and delicate, and in proportion to the head as a whole. Head well balanced with only a slight drop to the muzzle, which is parallel to the top of the skull. Nose black only, with the exception of chocolates which should have a self-colored nose. Lips and Cheeks small, taut and closely adherent to each other. Teeth meet in a scissors bite. Neck, Topline, Body - Neck proportioned to head and body, slightly arched, gracefully curved, blending into shoulders, muscular and free from suggestion of dewlap or throatiness. Topline - Back level or slightly sloping toward the rear both when standing and gaiting. Body compact, slightly wedgeshaped, muscular. Forechest well developed. Well-sprung ribs. Depth of brisket, the base line of which is level with points of the elbows. Belly moderately tucked up to denote grace of structural form. Short and strong in loin. Croup level with topline. Tail set high, held erect, docked in proportion to size of dog. Forequarters - Shoulders clean and sloping with moderate angulation coordinated to permit the hackney-like action. Elbows close to the body. Legs - Strong bone development and small clean joints. As viewed from the front, straight and upstanding. Pasterns strong, perpendicular. Dewclaws should be removed. Feet small, catlike, toes strong, well arched and closely knit with deep pads. Nails thick, blunt. Hindquarters - well-muscled quarters set wide enough apart to fit into a properly balanced body. As viewed from the rear, the legs are straight and parallel. From the side, well angulated. Thighs well muscled. Stifles well defined. Hocks short, set well apart. Dewclaws should be removed. Feet small, catlike, toes strong, well arched and closely knit with deep pads. Nails thick, blunt. Coat - Smooth, hard and short, straight and lustrous, closely adhering to and uniformly covering the body. Color - Solid clear red. Stag red (red with intermingling of black hairs). Black with sharply defined rustred markings on cheeks, lips, lower jaw, throat, twin spots above eyes and chest, lower half of fore legs, inside of hind legs and vent region, lower portion of hocks and feet. Black pencil stripes on toes. Chocolate with rust-red markings the same as specified for blacks, except brown pencil stripes on toes. In the solid red and stag red, rich vibrant medium to dark shade is preferred. Disqualifications - Any color other than listed. Thumb mark (patch of black hair surrounded by rust on the front of the foreleg between the foot and the wrist; on chocolates, the patch is chocolate hair). White on any part of dog which exceeds one half inch in its longest dimension. Gait - The forelegs and hind legs move parallel with feet turning neither in nor out. The hackney-like action is a high-stepping, reaching, free and easy gait in which the front leg moves straight forward and in front of the body and the foot bends at the wrist. The dog drives smoothly and strongly from the rear. The head and tail are carried high. Temperament - Fearless animation, complete self-possession, and spirited presence. DISQUALIFICATIONS Under 10 inches or over 12 1/2 inches in height. Any color other than listed. The Points towards a Championship shall be awarded to the Winners Dog and Bitch of each breed or variety based on the actual number of dogs or bitches competing in that breed or variety. If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of both sexes that have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety competition and that have been defeated in such competition, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points. If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed or Variety, the dogs of its own sex that have been entered for Best of Breed or Variety competition and that have been defeated in competition for Best of Opposite Sex, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points. After points have been computed for Winners Dog and Winners Bitch subject to the above two stipulations, the dog awarded Best of Winners shall be credited with the number of points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater. In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, or that is dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge, or from which all awards are withheld shall not be included. Any dog which shall have won fifteen points shall become a Champion of Record, if six or more of said points shall have been won at two shows with a rating of three or more championship points each and under two different judges, and some one or more of the balance of said points shall have been won under some other judge or judges than the two judges referred to above. Green, to the breeder(s) of the dog judged Best of Breed at its National Specialty Show. For permanent possession, this trophy must be won three times by the same breeder(s), not necessarily with the same dog nor at consecutive National Specialties. However, the breeder(s) of record must be identical the three times. Futurity & Maturity Judge Mrs. Kim Swilling Has been actively involved with the AKC Conformation sport of purebred dogs since 1989. Her first show min pin was from Whitehouse Kennels Ch. Whitehouse Heman V Khanday. After he finished in one weekend by Jude White, Kim was addicted to the breed and to showing. Ruth Tarlton of Copperspur Kennels gave her a bitch Copperspur Misty Morning to start her breeding program. The rest is history. Kim is an active Min Pin exhibitor and breeder and working on applying for her AKC judging license soon. Her current membership activities are as follows: President of the Dallas Miniature Pinscher Club, and Match Chairman and past officer of Denton Kennel Club. Kim has bred, owned and handled a 3-time Best in Show All- Breed and Best in Specialty Show min pin Ch. Flashfires Pretty Boy Floyd who was also a Best of Opposite Sex winner at Westminster Kennel Club. FUTURITY STAKE INTRODUCTION The purpose of the Futurity Stake is to encourage the breeding of the best possible Miniature Pinscher and to reward the breeders for their efforts. For this reason, the Stakes are weighted in the favor of the breeder, who is the one who chooses the sire, nominates the bitch before whelping, and often pays the entry fees for the individual puppies as well. DESCRIPTION For full particulars about the nomination procedure, contact the club secretary for a copy of the Futurity rules. MONETARY AWARDS 1. NOMINATION FEES: 35% shall be deducted from the total nomination fee purse to be used for Futurity expenses. This will be deposited in the MPCA Treasury. This fund shall cover all expenses incurred by the Futurity Stake i.e. Judges, printing, mailing, etc. The remaining 65% will be awarded as follows: 60% - Best in Futurity 60% - Breeder of Record 40% - Owner of Record 40% - Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Futurity 60% - Breeder of Record 40% - Owner of Record 2. ENTRY FEES 35% shall be deducted from the total entry fee purse to be used for Futurity expenses and will be held in the MPCA treasury. Sweepstakes Judge Ms. Marcia P. Tucker QuickTime and a TIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture. I have always loved dogs, but my first purebred was a Doberman in the mid- 60's, a REAL son of the original Warlock! He was not a show dog, and after a brief foray into Dobes, purchased my first Rottweiler in the early 70's. I bred many Rottweiler champions during my 25 years in the breed, and have always had one since. I was on the Board of Directors for the American Rottweiler Club and served as President of the Lake Eustis Kennel Club, my local all-breed, for many years. I have served as show chairman for both all breeds and specialty clubs. My first Minpin was a pet for my 8 year old son Murray, and I soon loved the spirit and attitude of these little characters. I bought my foundation bitch from Carol Garrison of Carlee, and was fortunate enough to buy and own Ch. Carlee Nubby Silk (ROM) a dog probably found in most pedigrees today. He produced 117 champions, and his blood lives on in all Sunsprite and Pevensey dogs. I picked Sunsprite as my kennel name, and have probably bred over 150 champions to date. I became an AKC judge in 1984, and judge the Working Group, a few Hounds, Poodles, and Italian Greyhounds. I have judged three times at Westminster, and in many foreign countries. I have never applied for Minpins, since I still actively breed and exhibit my dogs. I am looking forward to judging the sweepstakes for this 2009 MPCA National Specialty and seeing some outstanding youngsters who will carry on in the future! Lemcke I have been a member of the Miniature Pinscher Club of America for 47 years and Katie and I are now lifetime members. I started attending the National Specialty and Annual Meeting as a guest in 1956 prior to joining in 1962. I was very involved in the club for about 25 years, serving in various capacities, including President and Board member. I was Show Chairman for the National Specialty for the last 13 years that it was held in Chicago. Katie and I obtained our first Min Pin in 1958 and bred our first litter in 1961. I started judging Min Pins in 1972 and am currently approved by the American Kennel Club to judge all Hounds, Working and Toy breeds along with Best in Show. I desperately wanted a Welsh Pony, but my sensible parents presented me with a Welsh Corgi. This little dog introduced me to the challenging world of dog training and was my first high in trial dog. I have been involved with dogs, dog training and corgis every since. While obedience is my first love, I have successfully trained and showed dogs in tracking, herding, agility and conformation. I love the challenge of training and showing one dog to a breed championship and titles in a variety of performance activities. I am active in several dog clubs, teach dog obedience, act as an AKC canine ambassador and conduct educational programs in my local school system and our local community college. My avocation is to help people become responsible dog owners and truly enjoy their pets. I have been judging AKC obedience since 1990 and Rally since 2004. I particularly love judging breed specialties and am honored to be asked to judge at the Miniature Pinscher National Specialty.
