The Cape Wildlife Center features: A veterinary clinic fr examinatin, surgery and treatment A digital X-ray system A newly-renvated tw-stry indr animal ward A cmplete cmmissary fr preparing animal diets Outdr hlding pens and flight pens fr acclimatin prir t release A separate n-site living area (drmitry style) fr interns and externs that includes 2 bedrms which accmmdate 4 peple each, with 2 bathrms, a kitchen and living rm. A washer and dryer are available. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS AT A GLANCE Internship The primary emphasis f the internship prgram is t train undergraduate and graduate students f bilgy, zlgy, eclgy, cnservatin r veterinary medicine (1 st t 3 rd year) in the essentials f wildlife handling, recvery, rehabilitatin, and release back t the wild. The term Intern is used in the cntext f that used in industry and private enterprise. Prgrams last a fixed 8 weeks in the perid between April 1 and September 15. They can be flexible in length the rest f the year depending n availability. Externship The primary emphasis f the extern prgram is t train senir veterinary students and veterinary technician students in the current techniques f cnservatin and wildlife medicine. The term extern is used as defined by the AAZV (www.aazv.rg ). Prgrams typically run fr 4 weeks but can be f flexible length depending n availability. POTENTIAL DAILY TASKS The fllwing is a list f primary activities that interns may have the chance t participate in: Apprpriate handling and restraint f certain species: Such species may include:

In additin it is expected that thse living at the Center during their prgrams will participate in keeping the huse clean and neat at all times.

Interns and externs receive 2 days ff per week scheduled at the discretin f the Staff. Thse seeking academic credit are requested t include apprpriate schl dcumentatin during their applicatin prcess. In additin, if there are evaluatin frms that need t be filled ut after the internship r externship is cmpleted. Thse frms must be given t the veterinary directr ne week prir t the last day f the prgram. It is mandatry that anyne handling rabies vectr species receive rabies prphylaxis vaccinatins. Fr thse interns and externs wanting t wrk with rabies vectr species, prf f vaccinatin and current titers are required prir t the start f the prgram. Each applicant must have his r her wn medical insurance cverage either persnally r thrugh their hme institutin. All interns and externs fr whm English is a secnd language are required t supply prf f English cmpetence and cmprehensin. HOUSING There is limited n site husing available. The bedrms are set up drmitry style with 1 t 4 students per rm. There will be a $50 ($25 fr key depsit, $25 fr clean linens) refundable cash depsit required upn arrival. This depsit will be refunded upn return f the key, the return f clean linens and fllwing a rm inspectin at the end f the stay. KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY Interns and externs have access t a kitchen with cking utensils, stve, micrwave, and cffee maker but must supply their wn fd. There is als a separate washer and dryer available t students but they must prvide their wn detergent. TRANSPORTATION Interns and externs are required t make their wn travel arrangements t and frm the Center. During yur stay, yu shuld plan t prvide yur wn transprtatin r rely upn ther students fr rides. Public transprtatin is available, but limited, and is mst useful fr sightseeing rather than grcery shpping. Hyannis is within biking distance. CAPE COD Cape Cd is an area f Massachusetts that includes beaches, salt marshes, sand dunes, wdlands and lvely cean-side twns. Barnstable is a rural cean cmmunity, quiet during the ff seasn (late fall thrugh early spring) and bustling with activity during the rest f the year. There is much t d n the Cape frm shpping in charming crafts and artisans shps t ging n whale watches ff the cast. While students spend the majrity f their time at the Center we d make sure that each student has time ff t enjy the Cape and all it has t ffer. We will make every effrt t make yur prgram an experience f learning and enhancement, t expse yu t new cncepts and ideas and encurage yu t share yur knwledge with us and with the ther students. REMUNERATION Our internships and externships are unpaid. The pprtunities we prvide t gain experience in this field are significant.
