I want to welcome our new Newsletter Editor, Julie Marquis, and thank her for taking on this position. Let s help her out in any way we can with informational articles, brags, etc. The newsletter does not fill its pages by itself. Our next general meeting will be held on November 21st at the Legacy Meridian Hospital in Tualatin. This should be a very short meeting with a video to follow on Whelping & Neonatal Survival, by well-known reproduction specialist Dr. Hutchison. I expect this to be a very informational video so please plan on attending. Dr. Hutchison s bio is included in this newsletter. I want to thank Sandi Whitman for stepping forward and volunteering to attend the annual meeting on Sauvie Island in order to obtain the dates for the Working Certificate and the Hunt Test for 2015. I so appreciate this! We do still need a Chair for the Hunt Test. Jeff Kennedy has volunteered to chair the Working Certificate Test again in 2015. Thank you Jeff! These were Peter s first points and I am proud of how he is growing up. Peter is owned by Cindy Freeman and bred by Kim Jacobson, Meg Newton and Jeramiah Mendoza. Hutchison is a founding member of Animal Clinic Northview, Inc. and a lifelong resident of North Ridgeville, Ohio. Dr. Hutchison is also the Director of the Center for Canine and Feline Reproduction and Infertility, Inc., a canine and feline frozen semen center established in 1984. Dr. Hutchison is also reproductive consultant for the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), a group of experts that consult other veterinarians from around the world with clinical concerns and problems. He is internationally recognized for his lectures on canine reproduction and neonatology. He has also published numerous articles, authored textbook chapters, and produced informational DVDs on dog breeding, whelping and neonatology. He is an adjunct professor for clinical sciences at the colleges of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University and Purdue University. Students from numerous universities, both nationally and internationally, have interned at Animal Clinic Northview in order to study canine reproduction under Dr. Hutchison s guidance. Dr. Hutchison and his wife, Anita, have three grown children, Randy, Brad, and Emily. Dr. Randy Hutchison is on the staff at Animal Clinic Northview. Both Dr. Hutchison and Dr. Randy are involved with owning, developing, and racing standardized horses. Anxiety is always high on race days! Dr. Hutchison enjoys music, bird watching, and spending time with his incredibly spoiled papillion, Chloe. He also co-owns numerous AKC champion shiba inus with longtime friend and employee, Mary Rotkowski. 3
Meeting Minutes, October 2014 Meeting Called to order by Cindy at 7:39PM at the Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin, OR. Roll Call: Judy Chambers, JoAnne Huntley, Nikki Illias, Cindy Freeman, Lizzie Moir, and guests Jenny and Mark Bloom Judy makes a motion to accept the minutes in the newsletter, JoAnne seconded. Old Business/Committees Specialty: Need to get the notebook for the specialty. Both judges contacted and sweeps judges will be contacted as well. Obedience judges Chris Cornell accepted and the other has a conflict. Nikki will get more names for obedience judges. Hunt Test: A chair is still needed. If interested in volunteering please contact Cindy. Meeting on Sauvie Island to select dates is on 11/4/2014. We need a local volunteer to attend the meeting to get dates. Changing the date was discussed but not finalized. We have to look into not just other hunt tests scheduled but also island availability. Nikki suggested we limit Masters to 60 and also mentioned now new AKC policy allows junior only and mentioned the possibility of doing a double header. Discussion ensued on full-on hunt test vs junior double header. Guns: Paperwork is still needed to switch ownership into the clubs name. WC: Cindy will contact Jeff Kennedy to see if he will chair again. B - Match: Scheduled for May 9th at Judy Chambers home. Judy needs to see if we can switch weekends to before or after the 9th. Tracking Test at Judy s 11/ 7 & 8/2014:Anyone who would like to see a tracking test is welcome to come watch. Would the club members be interested in tracking? B - Match: Joanne Huntley suggested that we add nosework. It could be fun to include as a demo and practice runs. Joanne would be in charge of it. Judy motions to adjurn at 8:26PM. JoAnne 2nd ed. Litter Listings Any member wishing to list a litter on either the website or in the newsletter must provide paper copies of the following minimum documentation: 1. OFA hip certification for the sire and dam 2. OFA elbow certification for the sire and dam 3. Current (12 months) eye clearance (CERF) for the sire and dam 4. A check for $10.00 5. Contact information for the listing. This may contain one or more of: a persons name, email address, telephone number, and kennel name. 6. The choice of web listing, newsletter listing or both. The member may include additional documentation for certifications such as cardiac or EIC. All certifications claimed must be documented. Litter listings will run two months. The member may request one additional month via email. At the end of the run-period the listing will be removed without notice. 2015 Annual Awards Annual awards will take place at our meeting in January, 2015. If your dog has earned an AKC title in the field, obedience, or conformation ring during the period of November 2013 through November 2014 and you are an RCLRC member of good standing, you are eligible for a title award. If you have bred the dog, you will receive a breeder award. The owner of the dog shall receive an individual award. Your dog must have finished an American or Canadian Championship, obedience title, hunting title, or working certificate to qualify for the title award. Dockdog, flyball, and UKC titles are also included. Dogs that have finished their championship and earned a title in two different performance disciplines (A through F, below) are eligible for an all around Labrador award. Dogs are also eligible for a versatility award or certificate of achievement award. For the versatility award a dog must earn a working title in two different areas from the following: A) Obedience OTCH, UDX, UD, CDX, or CD, as well as any of the optional titles, B) Hunting FC, AFC, MH, SH, or JH, C) Tracking VST, TDX, or TD, D) Agility please identify the title, E) Rally RN, RA, RE, or RAE, F) Dock Dogs NJ, JJ, SJ, MJ, or EJ. In addition, the dog must have earned one certificate from the following: G) CGC, TDI, Delta Society, WC, WCX, or TT. For a certificate of achievement award, a dog must finish any one working title (A through F from above) and one certificate from the G) listings, above.
