NORFOLK and SUFFOLK HPR FIELD TRIAL CLUB ID NO 2026 FIELD TRIAL STANDING INSTRUCTIONS 2017/2018 RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING ALL STAKES; ALL TRIALS WILL BE HELD UNDER KENNEL CLUB FIELD TRIAL RULES AND J REGULATIONS COPIES OF WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THE KENNEL CLUB AND THOSE OF THE NORFOLK AND SUFFOLK HPR FIELD TRIAL CLUB. 1 Dogs entered at Kennel Club Licensed Field Trials must be registered at the Kennel Club in accordance with Kennel Club Regulations for Classification and Registration B. 2 Substitution of dogs will not be accepted. 3 All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to the show/event can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to the exhibitor/competitor. 4 If entries or nominations exceed the number of permitted runners, the right to compete in a Trial shall be decided by ballot. 5 Should circumstances so dictate the Society, in consultation with the judges, may alter arrangements as necessary. Such changes and the circumstances surrounding them will be reported to the Kennel Club. 6 No modification may be made to the schedule after publication except by permission of the Kennel Club, followed by advertisement in appropriate journals if time permits before the closing of entries. 7 Judges at a Trial are prohibited from entering a dog which is recorded in their ownership or part ownership. 8 Videography and photography will only be permitted with the express permission of the Chief Steward and the host. RUNNERS: There will be a maximum of twelve runners in each stake. ENTRY FEES: For all stakes are 30 for Members and 35 for Non-members Please use one form for each entry and one cheque per entry, with cheques made payable to Norfolk and Suffolk HPR Field Trial Club. There will be a 50% refund if a trial is cancelled due to bad weather. Unused cheques will be destroyed. 1

ENTRIES: An entry is an application for a named dog, registered at the Kennel Club in the name of the applicant. Completed entry forms must be sent together with the appropriate payment to: The Hon Field Trial Secretary, Mrs Jo Gosling, Wind Jama, 2 Beverley Avenue, West Mersea, Essex, CO5 8EU. Telephone 01206 382486 or 07803 858628 or email norfolkandsuffolkhprevents@gmail.com CLOSING DATES: Entries together with full payment MUST be received on or before the closing date specified against each meeting and sent to The Hon Field Trial Secretary. DRAW: The draw will take place at approximately 7.00 pm at the address of the Field Trial Secretary on the dates listed. Competitors are invited to be present. In the event of excessive entries a ballot will be held. Results will be sent out by email. Anyone wishing to have the results posted MUST include a SAE with your entry form. With the exception of Open Stakes, only one dog per owner will be granted a place in each trial, unless needed in order to meet the required number of entrants or to complete the list of reserves. You should indicate your first choice on your entry form. In cases of joint ownership of more than one dog, each owner may handle one of the dogs that are jointly owned, and each dog must be entered on a separate entry form and have separate payment. Each dog will be treated as a single entry in the event of a ballot. DEFINITIONS: MEMBERS: Members are those that are fully paid-up. Non-Members include those applying for membership or whose membership has lapsed and have not yet been before the Committee for consideration. Preference in all draws will be given to members. NOVICE: A Stake confined to dogs which have not gained the following awards:- First, Second or Third in Open Stakes or First or Second in All Aged or First in Novice Stakes. Preference in the draw will be given in the following order. a) Members 1 st choice dog b) Members 2 nd choice dog c) Non members 1 st choice dog d) Non members 2 nd choice dog e) Others ALL-AGED: A Stake which is open to all dogs of a specified breed or breeds without restriction to their age but which may be restricted by any other conditions which may be determined by the society promoting the Field Trial. Preference in the draw will be given to those dogs with an award in a Field Trial in the following order. a) Members with a Field Trial Award 1 st dog b) Members with a Field Trial Award 2 nd dog c) Non-members with a Field Trial Award 1 st dog d) Non-members with a Field Trial Award 2 nd dog 2

e) Members no Field Trial Award f) Non-members no Field Trial Award g) Others OPEN: A Stake in which dogs have the opportunity of gaining qualification (whole or part) for the title of Field Trial Champion or for entry in the Champion Stake. Preference in the draw will be given to:- a) Members 1 st dog which has gained a First, Second, Third award in an Open Stake or a First or Second in an All-Aged Stake or First in a Novice Stake. b) Members 2nd dog which has gained a First, Second, Third award in an Open Stake or a First or Second in an All-Aged Stake or First in a Novice Stake. c) Non-members 1st dog which has gained a First, Second, Third award in an Open Stake or a First or Second in an All-Aged Stake, or First in a Novice Stake. d) Members dog which has gained other awards. e) Non-members dog which has gained other awards. f) Other dogs. The foregoing places must have been gained in a Stake qualifying for entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book. Kennel Club reg. J 7 (j) Except in the Championship, no handler may handle more than 2 dogs in a stake. MEETING and START TIMES: Competitors should report to the Chief Steward not later than 15 minutes prior to the published starting time, but for the purpose of substitution of reserves the trial will be deemed to have commenced when the Chief Steward calls Competitors and Judges together and makes the introductions. BASIC REQUIRMENTS OF DOGS ENTERED: ( K.C.F.T.Regs. J(A)5a) Dogs shall be required to quarter ground in search of game, to point game, to flush on command, to be steady to flush, shot and fall and to retrieve tenderly to hand on command from land and water. PRIZES: Awards for First, Second and Third place in every stake. Cups and Trophies; in the event of a 1 st not being awarded, will be presented to the highest placed dog (excluding Certificate of Merit winners). The Trophy is NOT to be engraved with the name of dog or handler UNLESS a first place is awarded. They must be returned to the Club upon request. PICKING-UP-DOG: At each Stake there will be a dog whose sole purpose is to retrieve any game not recovered by dogs running in the Stake. 3

EXERCISE OF DOGS: Competitors may exercise their dogs only at the discretion of the Chief Steward. Under no circumstances are dogs to be run or exercised on the trial ground before the trial, persons in breach of this rule will be liable to have any entry disqualified and their fees forfeited. SPECTATORS: Spectators must at all times obey the directions of the stewards. They must keep together behind the Red Flag and are requested to keep noise levels to a minimum to avoid disturbing the trial. LIABILITY: All persons attending these trials do so at their own risk. Neither the Norfolk and Suffolk HPR FT Club or the Hosts of the meeting or Landowners will accept liability for any accident, injury or illness, damage or loss to any persons, dogs or property, whatsoever. The Club reserves the right to refuse entry without stating a reason. The makeup of any implies acceptance of these conditions and of the rules of the Kennel Club and the Norfolk and Suffolk HPR Field Trial Club. The attendance of any spectator also implies such acceptance. RETURN of ENTRY FEES: In the case of withdrawals the Rule J7f applies. After an applicant has been successful in the draw for a place in a Stake, or as a reserve has accepted an offer of a run, if the run is not taken up the applicant may become liable for the full entry fee if his or her place is not taken up by another competitor, except; 1 Where the applicant has qualified out of Novice (where applicable) 2 Where the dog drawn to run has qualified for the Championship after entries have closed 3 On production of a Veterinary Certificate confirming that the dog entered for the Stake is unfit to compete or if a bitch is in season 4 On production of a medical certificate that the applicant or the applicant s nominated handler is unable to compete SPECIAL WATER CERTIFICATE, KC rule J(E) 10C The Special Water Certificate is issued on the rare occasion that a Water test is not possible at a HPR Stake due to weather conditions. It is not mandatory and if an owner is not comfortable with the arrangements for taking the SWC (i.e. the land owners permission has not been sought or there is a perceived risk of injury) then he/she may refuse to take part and re-arrange to take the test at another Field Trial. When an SWC is arranged the following should apply: a) The landowner s permission sought in writing and also permission to fire a shot if required b) There MUST be a comprehensive risk assessment performed on the land where the test is to take place. c) Judges should be made aware of these requirements. d) Competitors will be asked to sign a declaration that they kept to the guidelines when issued with The Special Water Certificate. 4

WELFARE OF DOGS: Dogs in cars on hot days: Your dog is vulnerable and AT RISK if left in a vehicle in high temperatures and even on days considered as slightly warm. Please take care of your dog. If your dog is found to be at risk, forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability for any damage caused. A competitor whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not knowingly put their dogs health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. A breach of this regulation may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. 5
