Founded 1975 Issue 5 May 2013 Hi All Lab Lovers, President s Message Upcoming Events May 11 June 1/2 B Match & General Meeting Potluck WC/WCX Can you feel it? The weather is warming up and so is your Labrador Club! We have a lot of events happening so be sure and look through your May Newsletter! With this month of May we have one of our first organized Field training days at Cathy and Jeff Hakola s Farm May 19th at 12:00 noon. This is a good place to come and see what your puppies have in the retriever department of their genealogy. June first will be here very soon and the Annual Working Certificate test (see flier in this newsletter). We would hope if you are new to our Club or maybe have been in the Club for a while, but have never gone to a Field event, this would be a good field event for beginning your education. Please come and watch or maybe help and next year s event might prove you and your own dog able to run! July 6/7 Oct 6-17 Hunt Test, Sauvie Island LRC Natl Specialty Lacey Washington The B Match is fast approaching. Susie Morrill and Judy Chambers are on board to make this event a great success. Please look in this newsletter for information on this event which will be held at Scott and Judy Chambers Farm. I am not sure how many of our Members realize that the largest Labrador Show in the World happens in April in Maryland. I wanted to take a moment to send out brags on our very own Members, Sonya Dudder who bred this year s Best In Sweepstakes puppy and Susan and Greg Huntzinger who are fortunate to own that young bitch, Miss Spice! Congratulations to Sonya and Susan and Greg for bringing home the top honors of this year s bred puppies. We are so very proud to call you our Club Members! In general the Pacific N.W. Breeders did very well in the various other Classes in which west coast dogs were show. Congratulations to those exhibitors too! On a good note, our beloved Marilyn Parker did not want to make a big deal about her surgery, but she is back home and recouping well. We are thrilled she will be back in the saddle very soon and so happy she is doing well. We all love Marilyn and are happy that she and Richard are getting back to some normal life again! Welcome home Marilyn and see you soon ring side or out in the field! Your President Barb Gilchrist 1

April General Meeting Minutes April 19, 2013 In attendance: Barbara Gilchrist, Betty Barkley, Joanne Huntley, Lizzie Moir, Lisa Cruanas, Marilyn Parker, Cindy Freeman, Stephanie Klepel (Guest), Jeff Kennedy, Kim & Blake Leamy, Nikki Illias. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Barbara Gilchrist at Elmers Pancake & Steak House in Portland, OR. President s report: Barb reported that there are many things going on and will let the individual committee chair report. She also mentioned that she will not be at the B Match meeting. Vice President, Lisa Cruanas will also not be there so Cindy Freeman will be running the meeting on their behalf. Secretary s report Lisa Cruanas made a motion to approve the minutes as posted in the last newsletter. This was seconded by Joanne Huntley and the motion was unanimously approved. Cindy had no other report except about AKC and the specialty and she will let the committee chair report on that item. Treasurer s Report none Specialty Show Committee report Blake reported that we finally got approval after many issues with AKC losing paperwork, not processing the fees and other items. The judges are being coordinated for their flights, hotel s, etc. Transportation arrangements to and from the airport and hotels are still in process. It has been arranged to order ribbons from Winning Colors. Cindy will be taking lunch orders from the menu to be provided in the premium list. Barb mentioned that the Potomac catalog had ads from clubs for upcoming specialties and that we should consider putting an ad in 2014 Potomac catalog about our 2014 specialty. B Match Judy also had a problem with AKC approving the B Match. Judy has been working on it and it is finally worked out and the match is approved. said that birds are not an issue, but shells are low. Jeff said that he has plenty if needed. 2013 National it sounds like we will have a good turnout according to feedback that Barb received when at the Potomac and that there will be some East coast people coming. It also sounds like California will be well represented. The Judges are announced and volunteers are still needed for different areas. There will be welcome bags, raffle, etc. Watch the LRC website for more updates Membership - Second reading and voting: Chuck Stalnaker is interested in hunting, obedience and field. All members approved. New proposed member 1 st reading. Stephanie Klepel interested in hunting, obedience, field, companion New Business: Betty brought up that she has a problem with having to pay for litter listings. She wanted to know if there would be a way to call it a brag since she is not needing it to sell puppies, but would like people to know what she is doing. Much discussion followed and it was agreed to table the item until the B Match meeting. Unfinished business: Barb is communicating with Cathy Hakola about a Fun Field day at their farm sometime in Mid-May. More information will be coming on this item. Motion to adjourn was made at 7:52 PM by Joanne Huntley. Kim Leamy seconded. The next meeting will be at the B Match at the home of Judy Chambers on May 11. Respectfully submitted by Cindy Freeman, Secretary WC Jeff Kennedy reported that the birds are lined up, but we still have no judges. Nikki Illias is the backup if no other judge is located. We are OK on shells and popper shells. Directional signs need to be posted early due to the change in location. HRT Nikki reported that she needs to contact AKC about a potential problem with one of the judges. She 4
