ID Methds and Numbering: Default ID Frmat: The default ID frmat is used t determine the frmat f the Animal ID Nr (visual) in BenguFarm BEEF, accrding t the animal s Herd Designatin Mark (HDM), Year and Sequence number. The default ID frmat in BenguFarm BEEF is HHHHYYNNNN. The HHHH indicates there is prvisin fr maximum 4 characters fr the Herd Designatin Mark r brand mark, the YY indicates there is prvisin fr maximum 2 characters fr the year f birth and the NNNN indicates there is prvisin fr maximum 4 characters f the sequence number. E.g. if the herd designatin mark is ABC, its year f birth 2013 and the sequence number 123, the ID Nr will be created as ABC130123. Cmmercial herds usually use nly the year f birth and sequence number t identify animals. In this case, the default ID frmat can be set as YYNNNN r YY-NNNN. Please nte: Use tw (nt nly ne) characters fr the year f birth (e.g. 13 instead f 3 fr animals brn in 2013) t prevent duplicate numbers in the BenguFarm database. Default Main ID Methd (Permanent ID): Fr stud herds the default main ID methd depends n the specific breeders sciety's prescriptin, e.g. Branding. Default Sub ID Methd (Visual ID): Fr stud herds the default sub ID methd depends n the specific breeders sciety's prescriptin, e.g. Ear tag. Separate Sequence Numbers fr Heifers and Bulls: Check this ptin nly if (fr this herd) ne serial number range fr heifer and bull calves is nt used. At Sequence Number Methd the apprpriate ptin shuld be selected fr Male and Female. If cntinuus series sequence numbers (in this herd) are used fr heifer and bull calves (e.g. 1-100 fr heifer calves and 101-200 fr bull calves OR 1-100 fr heifer calves and 1-100 fr bull calves), tick Cntinuus Sequence Numbers at bth sexes. 9

Create a secnd herd and navigate between herds: (if applicable) BenguFarm BEEF makes prvisin fr mre than ne herd (e.g. a stud and cmmercial herd) t be created. A secnd herd can either be created n the same database r a separate database. If animals are shared between herds (e.g. bulls used in tw herds) and/r if animals are mved frm time t time between herds (e.g. cmmercial cws apprved fr upgrading t the stud r rejected heifers mving back t the cmmercial herd) and/r if embrys flushed frm cws in ne herd (e.g. stud) will be implanted int cws in anther herd (e.g. cmmercial), we recmmend that the herds are created n the same database. Creating a secnd herd n the same database als has the advantage that certain settings (e.g. Camps, Cntacts and Calving seasns) d nt need t be dne separately fr bth herds and that it is nt necessary t make a separate backup f each herd. The nly instance where we wuld recmmend that yu create additinal herds n separate databases is if yu have the need t make a backup and restre a single herd s data (e.g. if the recrdkeeping f the different herds n BenguFarm BEEF will be dne n different cmputers). This is because the backup saves the entire database with all the herds in it. If there is nly ne herd in the database, then yu can restre this single herd. If in dubt n which ptin t chse, please cnsult with yur BenguFarm BEEF agent. T create a secnd herd n the same database, g t Settings > Herds > General and click n the "+" at the bttm f the windw. Enter a name (e.g. Cmmercial Herd), select the Breed and d the rest f the settings fr the herd. Click Save and Exit. Please nte: Sme general herd settings will be entered autmatically if it was entered fr the first herd that was created. Please nte: If yu created mre than ne herd n the same database, BenguFarm BEEF will autmatically als create an ALL "herd". Nrmally yu will nt wrk in this "herd", since there are nly certain functins that can be dne in the ALL herd, e.g. t print a list f all animals (in all herds in the database). Nte: If tw (r mre) herds are created n the same data base, try nt t use the same ID numbers fr animals in the tw herds, t prevent cnfusin with identificatin if wrking in the ALL "herd". T mve animals between herds, see paragraph 34. 7. Display settings Main windw and ther: Certain windws and certain fields n sme windws in BenguFarm BEEF that is nt used can be hided.
