President s Message JACK GRASSA Sharon Fremer Ramapo Kennel Club Officers President Sharon Fremer teneo@mac.com Vice President Gerrie Oliver Treasurer Ruth Henningsen Recording Secretary Amy Starost Corresponding Secretary Tilly Grassa tgcreative@aol.com Board of Directors 2018 Janis Hayes Sue Leonard Cindy McMillan 2019 Elaine Barone Lorraine Fennemore Joan Kuehm AKC Delegate Jeffrey David Ball 2 Happy Halloween! I hope you all enjoyed a safe, fun night full of ghosts and ghouls. Try as I might, I could not get my dogs to tolerate any costumes worthy of a photo for this issue of the Growl. I hope some of you had better luck! Another Harvest Cluster is behind us. The weather gods were not smiling on us as much as they did the past several years, but at least we had neither torrential rain nor freezing temperatures and snow. While our entries were well down from last year, never something we want, there was one notable benefit to the lower number of exhibitors. I received multiple comments from people, while at the show and afterward, that they loved the easy going and lower pressure atmosphere this year. People genuinely enjoyed themselves. I hope those good Ramapo Kennel Club GROWL November 2017 feelings carry over and they will come back to the Sussex County Fairgrounds with us again next year. BIG thanks to all the members that worked so hard for our shows. Amy Starost s obedience and rally rings were flawless, as usual. She even arranged for our rally judge to present a seminar on the new Rally Masters following judging on Saturday. Lorraine Fennemore s breakfasts and luncheons were scrumptious and earned tons of kudos from our judges. They particularly love our hot breakfasts. Cindy McMillen did a great job extending that hospitality out to all the rings. She made many runs between the Richards Bldg and the rings with beverages for the judges and stewards. Gerrie Oliver s signs and name badges were a huge help, guaranteeing attendees knew who we all were as well as alerting them to the bee situation. Kim Luikert s conformation trophies were brilliant, as always. The cell phone chargers with our logo looked great and I know firsthand that they work very well. Elaine s obedience trophies looked gorgeous up by the obedience rings, as they do every year. Ruth s and Anne s decorations spruced up the Richard s Building and made sure it looked seasonal and festive. Janis pulled in some great vendors the always popular Captain C, while Don worked his magic with parking and just generally policing the grounds to keep everyone in line. Tilly and Jack Grassa got some phenomenal photos, many of which were posted on the RKC FB page, and in this issue. Jeffrey Ball did not have an official job but he didn t need one. He kept very busy pitching in wherever needed from setup on Thursday all the way through to collecting the golf carts for pickup at the end of the day Sunday. All in all, we have an exceptional team that comes together year after year. I cannot thank all of you enough. Speaking of next year s shows if you have requests/suggestions for specific judges for 2018, please submit them NOW. I have reached out to several judges already and have a few more in mind. Some of them have been requested by specialties and supporteds, but we always need more. We welcome everyone s input. Please email me at teneo@mac.com with names. Please keep in mind that this year s holiday dinner will be held Wednesday night, December 13th, at Portabello on Route 202 in Oakland, NJ. It s not far from our match show site at Sunny Bank. Price per person is $30, excluding alcohol. Please let Lorraine know if you will attend. We plan to pay Portobello in cash, so please pay Lorraine in cash if you possibly can. We do not have a speaker this month. Jeffrey Ball will bring several videos produced by the NJFDC over the past few years for us to watch. PLEASE! We need input from members for future programs. If you have an idea, share it. Better yet, please contact the person(s) you have in mind and find out if they are willing and available to come speak to us. I will happily contact them to firm up a date. See you next Wednesday in Pequannock! Sharon
