Date Dear It is with great excitement I invite you to participate in a very special event,, Wines of the World Fundraiser. Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing and Only Kindness Rescue are Co-Hosting this event, and we are honored to have Maria Milito, DJ Q104.3 NY as our Mistress of Ceremonies. This benefit features unique wine tastings from around the world, and craft beer samples provided by Verona Wine Cellars; an appetizer buffet donated by the Calandra Family; and a silent auction. Whether it be a Sponsorship, donation for our Silent Auction, or ad in our Event Program, your participation will help provide options for victims of domestic violence to leave their abusers without having to give up their pets or leave them behind in a potentially dangerous situation. Did you know: Nationally, there are an estimated 1.3 million victims of domestic violence annually.* Up to 85% of women entering domestic violence shelters reported that their partner had threatened, injured or killed their pet?* There are 73 million companion animals in American Homes (that s 62% of homes).* 65% of women who are in abusive relationships will delay leaving...because they don t know what to do with their animal family member.** With support from our local Police Chiefs; CEO s of hospitals and Social Service Agencies; the issuance of Proclamations declaring October Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Caldwell and other surrounding towns of Mayors attending; and media exposure in the New York Metro area; we believe this event will enlighten many of the need for more pet-friendly domestic violence shelters. Following an inaugural success of raising funds for emergency stays in pet-friendly hotels, or for boarding pets in temporary safe places, it is our hope to make a greater impact each year throughout the county and the State of New Jersey until there are adequate services of co-sheltering programs available to keep families protected together with their pets. Thank you for your consideration, your support will help us make it easier for victims of domestic violence to escape abuse WITH their pets, or find temporary safe places for them, so no family pet need ever be left behind in danger. FACT SHEET The goal of the event is to raise funds for: Seer Farms, a New Jersey sanctuary that provides temporary care for families in crisis, including pets of domestic violence so victims donʼt have to give up their loved ones or leave them behind and in danger; A New Jersey shelter for women of domestic violence to help add a pet friendly safe place enabling victims to escape abuse WITH their pets and; Only Kindness Rescue to help care for those pets that are left behind - due to heartbreaking choices. Why raise funds and waste precious time and resources on pets when there are limited programs for humans? The answer is, Domestic violence impacts all members of a family, including pets; The human/animal bond is deeper than many realize - victims should not have to make the devastating decision to give up their pets or leave them behind in danger; Family pets provide comfort and reassurance to both adults and children fleeing from domestic violence; The connection between domestic violence and animal abuse. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN NEW JERSEY* There were 62,055 domestic violence offenses reported by the police in 2014. Essex County - there were 5940 reported incidents of domestic violence abuse. Pulling numbers for Neighboring towns = 916 reported incidents " Bloomfield, Caldwell (50), Fairfield, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Glen Ridge, Livingston, " Milburn, Montclair, North Caldwell, Roseland, Verona, West Caldwell & West Orange With 62% of homes in America having companion animals...that means approx. " 560 reported domestic violence victims in just these 14 towns, in the year 2014, may have " had nowhere to turn to protect their pets, and delayed or did not flee assault because of it. Children were involved or present during 29 percent of all domestic violence offenses " occurring in 2014. Domestic violence does not occur at a regular frequency, but when viewed as a ratio of its occurrence to a fixed time interval, one act of domestic violence would occur every 8 minutes and 47 seconds. *http://www.njsp.org/ucr/pdf/domesticviolence/2014_domestic_violence.pdf WIth more guns and higher rates of violence, these numbers are bound to greater in 2016.
