AKC Obedience Regulations: What s Coming... December 1, 2015 (cont.) AKC Statement: The Institutionalized Inhumane Treatment of Dogs The recently held Yulin Dog Meat festival in China has resulted in cries of protest among the dog-loving public worldwide. The American Kennel Club believes that these protests are completely justified and imperative for there to be any chance of eliminating this institutionalized and heinous treatment, torture, and consumption of thousands of dogs each year. The AKC, as well as other purebred registries in the world, recognizes dogs as devoted companions and working partners, and denounces their use as food products and subjection to cruel and inhumane treatment. AKC urges all of the purebred dog registries in China to implement educational programs to help put an end to the barbarous practice of torturing and eating dogs, and extends the offer to assist in this effort in any way possible. Contact: Brandi Hunter Email: bth@akc.org Calling All Members, Friends, Dog Enthusiasts, and Bored Teens! New Obedience Regulation books are expected to be available from the AKC in the Fall. AKC GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD 2015 GOES TO BOB FRISCHE At the July ODTC Club meeting, President Paul Reep was happy to award the 2015 AKC Good Sportsmanship Award to long-time club member Bob Frische. Bob has been active in the sport of dogs for more than 60 years, serving in many clubs as he lived in different parts of the country. He has shown in many different dog sports venues and has volunteered regularly with his local club. Many of you will recognize Bob s smiling face as a table steward at each of our trials. And some of remember Bob earning is UDX with his Sheltie, Wizard. Bob continues to volunteer with ODTC and epitomizes the great spirit of giving back that is embodied in this award. Page 10
Introducing Gracie! Gracie came into my life in July, filling my life with more joy and excitement! She is a joy to train. A fantastic tugger. A spunky personality. Yet she shows a soft side and is becoming more and more in tune with my health issues. In fact, she alerted to a low-blood sugar event which enabled me to raise it back to normal levels. I thank God for her every day. -Brenda Noren Page 11
4th Place at DOCOF in OPEN Vhari and 2B played on the IPOC winning DOCOF Team #1 for 2015. Our Border Collie, Vhari, ended up in the top ten with 86 dogs entered at the Utility level with a score of 195. Our two year old Border Collie, 2B, played at the Open level and earned a 194 and was in a run off for 4th Place in Open. 2B won the run off and ended up in 4th Place out of 95 Open dogs. AKC Judge Lynn Eggers was very complimentary and just smiled so brightly as we showed, it s always a pleasure to show to her. And I must say Sharon Hodges-Wood was also very nice to show to in Utility, she really had such a nice manner and was very quiet and never seemed to rush you. Video of the run off was shared at: https://www.facebook.com/offobedienceforfun Maggie & Darren Eslinger Loki earns his Companion Dog title Loki earned his CD title with another 2nd place at the July 18, OCOD, Daytona trial.
