Shetland Sheepdog Club of Northern California Minutes of the General Meeting March 25, 2017 Location: Robertson Park Equestrian Arena in Livermore at the SSCNC Agility Trial. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Halina Christie at 7:00 pm. The following members were present: Rachael Shaffer Patsi Nelson Scott Zamvil Kim Strassner John Strassner The following board members were present: Halina Christie Rebecca Logsdon Lynn Azzopardi Tom True We had the following guests: Reg Shaffer Last Month s Minutes: The minutes were sent out but it appears that no one read them. They will be approved next time. President s Report: No report. Correspondence: No report. Treasurer: Reminder we are no longer giving out the bank account totals at meetings. Club dues are due now!!! Membership: No report. Breeders Referral: No report. Agility Trial: The Trial is going great. Patsi said that we were very lucky to get this new facility in Livermore. We are getting a lot of positive feedback on the site. It is very conveniently located, is under cover, and has a great surface. Hopefully, we are making a good impression and we will be allowed to use it for more shows in the future.
The Trial is dedicated to the memory of Gail Shattuck. Patsi said that she has seen people at this Trial that she has never seen before. Certainly, a lot of Shelties are competing. The judge commented that he really liked seeing all the Shelties at the show. We will likely make money. The Trial overfilled, but the AKC wouldn t allow us to add a second judge. Our June/July Trial will have unlimited entry, so we won t run into that again. We had a great raffle and lots of workers. And we celebrated Tom True s birthday with a wonderful agility-themed cake! Last year, we lost a lot of money at our June Trial due to a large USDAA Trial being held the same day. This year, we are joining forces and holding our Summer Agility Trial June 30 July 2 at the same site (Manzanita Park in Prunedale) as the USDAA Trial. Competitors can enter AKC and USDAA events, if they want (and are crazy enough to do so). Ways and Means: No report. Trophies: Please donate to trophies for the October Specialty, if you can. In February, some significant trophies were not supported and the Club had to pick up the tab. Ribbons: Terry Packard, who does our ribbons, has been ill recently but she is now recovering. Special Awards: Lynn said that the Board needs to vote on which trophies to retire. Education: The current thinking is that we will have a grooming seminar at the Puppy Picnic (probably June or July). Library: No report Website: We need postings in Breeder Referral and links. A lot of people are looking for Shelties but there aren t many available. Bulletin: It s time to think of submissions to the April 2017 edition of the Bulletin. Rebecca encouraged new (and new-ish) members to submit biographies October 2017 Specialty: We need a Chairperson! No Chairperson, no show. You can show your dog if you are the Chair. Kathy Rosdail will mentor. John Strassner said that he would think about it. Specialty Match & Obedience/Rally Workshop: The tentative date is August 12 th. We need a Chair for the Match (we may have a volunteer this has not yet been confirmed). Any thoughts on a judge for the Obedience/Rally Workshop? Let the Board know. Patsi said that she would volunteer to Chair the Obedience/Rally Workshop if we can get a judge and if the workshop is on August 12 th. Christmas Party: Kim said that the 2017 Christmas Party will take place at Cattlemen s in Livermore on Saturday, December 2 nd. We will have the same private room that we had in 2016. It will take place 11 am 3 or 4 pm.
Old Business: Online Entries for the Specialty: We are still looking into this more input or opinions are welcome. Square is used by and highly recommended by several Club members. Halina needs to meet with Jill Levy to discuss the issue. We would pass on any transaction fees to the entrants. Once we get a system up and running, we will try it out first with the Specialty. Open Chair Positions: Halina said that we have several open Chair position obedience, rally, herding, etc. It would be nice if these were filled. If we had a herding chair, maybe we could have herding trials again. New Business: Puppy Picnic: We are looking at June or July for the Puppy Picnic. Judge Nominating Committee: We need to form a Nominating Committee soon for judges for the October 2018 Specialty (perhaps February 2019, too). Send in nominations for judges, if you have any. We will probably be voting on judges at the Puppy Picnic. ASSA Gail Shattuck Memorial: Rachael said that the ASSA asked her to submit an article for a memorial to Gail Shattuck. The memorial will appear in the book which the ASSA publishes for the National. Next Meetings: Saturday, April 8 th or April 29 th (most likely) probably a pizza party. Stay tuned. Saturday, May 20 th after Sheltie judging at the Coyote Hills KC show, Solano County Fairgrounds, Vallejo. FYI ***Helpful Information, Hints and Tips*** Here is a very interesting article about Leptospirosis from the March issue of the Bishop Ranch Newsletter. With all the recent rains, the incidence of the disease has increased. Thanks to Trudy Kerr for the link. http://files.constantcontact.com/a58b6063101/e30af906-77f8-4d3d-9182-437f3742ba42.pdf
