Committee Reports a. Bylaws (Chuck Casanova and Ray Calkins) no report b. DNA (Ray Calkins) no report c. CHIC (Robin Nelson) We currently have 170 German Wirehaired Pointers with CHIC numbers. With Cindy's help and adequate Club interest, we will hold a Thyroid Clinic at 2017 Nationals on October 8 after our Regional Specialty. Michigan State University lab requires 25 dogs participate to offer a discounted price. I need to contact the Michigan State Lab 1 month prior to our Thyroid Clinic to order special tubes, etc. so club members need to be on board early. I will continue to remind and prompt membership for a commitment through the first week in September. Our discounted price should be approximately half what a veterinary clinic might charge. There will be a $15 fee to submit results to OFA. d. AKC Delegate (Pat Laurans) no report e. FEAC (Liz Dixon) FEAC is quiet for now. Judges have been chosen and approved for this year s nationals. Always trying to get new names! On the nationals front, the premium is done. Greg and Bruce drove up to Solon to see how the burned areas looked and they said the grounds are in fantastic shape. The DNR is planning on more burning this summer and they know where the trial will be held and will concentrate on those areas. It hasn t looked this good in years!
I may go up this summer yet and make a final decision on where the water test will be. Where we ve held it in the past is overgrown. The lake has been flooded the past couple of years and we don t have the room we usually need. There are a couple of better places one is right across the street from the clubhouse. The hunt test will run on the puppy course and will not cause a conflict with the derby on Monday. f. Field Futurity (Tom Lococco) no report g. National Events Manual (Judy Cheshire) no report h. JEC (Judy Cheshire) Updated mentor list and info on the upcoming National Specialty sent to AKC. i. SEAC (Michelle Boyd) I was asked by the BOD to find out which location (Purina or TN or another suggestion for 2020) SEAC members might have. Here is the final tally: o Purina-11 (two with caveats-one if field trail grounds is less than an hour away and one if outdoors (cost is only $100.00 to use outdoor rings). o o Suggestions: Fort Robinson, NE was also brought up. Voting for 2019 judges ended Saturday, July 15. As soon as names are received, Lisa Kreuser can begin asking them. Judges nominations for 2020 will be in the next issue of the Wire-News. j. Rescue (Suzanne Oslander) no report k. Awards Committee (Lisa Krueser) no report l. ROM (Courtney Bastian) no report m. Show Futurity (Laura Myles) no report n. Merchandise (William Bastian) no report o. Standards Review (Bernee Brawn) Nothing to report p. Versatility (Lori Sargent) no report q. Nominating Committee(??) r. Wire News (Taylor Marshall/Angie Johnson) The Summer Wire~News issue was sent to the BOD for approval on June 8 and approved by the publisher on June 22, 2017. Due to a delay with the postage check, issues did not start hitting mailboxes until today (July 17). Information has not yet been received from the publisher to determine profit/loss for this issue. We have received some interest in the editor position, but no takers yet. We will continue to spread the word and ask the Wire~Mail to include the position opening in the next e-mail. s. WireMail (Steve Kreuser) My only concern is...it is advertised on FB that the Fall edition of the Wire~News is going to be sent to field trial judges. It's fine to want to spread the word and expose your dog to as many as possible, but I fear that this will be one big spam event from the judges perspective. We only need a few of the "approved" FT judges to report it as spam and our Constant Contact acct will be shut down. This did happen a few years ago with our conformation judges and FT judges may not be happy with the email. It's up to you if we move forward with it. (William will call Steve to discuss these issues) t. Webmaster (Lori Sargent) no report u. Legislative Liaison (Joan Payton) Washoe county NV considering mandatory Spay/neuter & stricter kennel permits CA is considering forcing pet stores to only sell animals from shelters & rescue making rescue a big business bringing in more out of country animals. 5. They run as events, Agility, obedience, rally.
Are trying this year--barn hunt and Scent work with the plan of having this as full events by 2019. Very helpful and is looking forward to working with us. Field Events Oct 14-19, 2019 Prairie Wind Ranch, Payette, ID (Richardson's ranch) Asked for availability for the dates and pricing. Waiting to hear back, will call them if no response in the upcoming weeks. Bruce Mueller was really excited about the ranch and their plans for the future. He judge out there recently. 10. 2020 - Midwest Lot of discussion around Purina Farms for the show. Can be done within typical budget. The fee structure is ala carte. Would need to reserve soon as they are filling up. Could get pricey with catering, and some clarifications need to be made with them. Courtney Bastian did get the pricing sheet and available dates. Do have some else who has a lot of contacts there that is working the same thing. o Available date is Oct 17-18, 2020. o Field Trial/Hunt test portion Grovespring, MO. Typical weather is 66/43 for the week following the show weekend. Still some concerns with their contract, which according to others is Pointers have first priority. Working on getting contact information and will follow up directly with that person. Other possible location, Lincoln, NE/Branched Oak. The event was very profitable the last time we were there. (Jodi will talk to Lisa about investigating this location further) Ft. Robinson, many issue came up with Ft. Rob. The main one being is that the site is off-season or closed for visitors. They kept changes the parameters of their ability such as rooms and meals. Meals were expensive, building (housing) lacked doors, no wi-fi, they were upset with all of the items shipped to them, the club lost money, there is no close airport, no close other hotels, closest city is 30 minutes away, no 'national' show site, grounds had sand burrs and bees that effected a lot of dogs, obedience and rally event was comprised by the wind, tumble weed rolling through the show site, no local caterer available for lunches had to guilt a family member into doing it, and no dedicated hunt test grounds. 11. Election to Membership (nothing from the Club Treasurer to vote on at this meeting) 12. New Business a. CHF Donor Advised Fund b. AKC Media Breed Specialist Position o Jodi will ask Ray Calkins c. AKC Archives o AKC sent a survey and a reminder that they are available to help clubs archive historical information. We might want to consider having everything archived in one location where it can be accessed by people interested in studying the breed. o We will bring this up at the National meeting 13. Next Meeting: Wednesday, Sept. 13 14. Meeting Adjourned
