Name: YOYO Animal ID: A201453 Breed: AMER BULLDOG / PIT BULL Weight: 63 1 ONCE STARVED FOR FOOD, DOG NEEDS HEARTWORM TREATMENT AND A NEW BEGINNING Yayo, a sweet Pitbull, was found starving, tied with no food or water, living in a house with a leaky roof. After attempts to make his owners care for Yayo correctly failed, Animal Control Officers charged the owners with neglect and took Yayo to the Animal Shelter. Once at the Animal Shelter, officers weighed Yayo. Sadly, he only weighed 36 lbs and Yayo is a "full grown" adult dog at 2 years old. He looked like a walking skeleton. Determined to save Yayo, Animal Shelter staff developed a plan to help Yayo gain weight. Yayo happily devoured his food and loved the attention he received. Yayo no longer had to lie on wet bedding; he now had a clean, warm, comfortable blanket! Unfortunately, Yayo saw the blanket as entertainment and promptly ripped it to pieces! As Yayo gained weight, he enjoyed long walks with one of the officers every day. Sadly, when Yayo was tested for heartworms, the test was positive; yet another hurdle for this sweet boy to overcome. As the case inched thru the court system, Yayo gained over 27 lbs., nearly doubling his weight! Animal Control pleaded with the owners to surrender Yayo but they refused for months. Finally, in an effort to allow Yayo to find the treatment and new life he so desperately deserves, Animal Control officials sadly agreed to drop the criminal charges if the owners would give up ownership of Yayo. Can you imagine being in Yayo's place? Thru no fault of your own, you recovered from near starvation only to be faced with death again, this time from heartworms? Animal Control officials knew the best chance for Yayo's recovery was to gain ownership so he could be placed with a rescue group or adopted to someone who is willing to treat Yayo for heartworms. Heartworms, left untreated, causes dogs to suffer and no one in Animal Control wanted Yayo to endure any more suffering. At this point in Yayo's life, the staff at the Animal Shelter felt he deserved a new name. Since the road to his complete recovery has been up and down, Yayo became Yoyo. With the right treatment, yoyos always finish in the up position, and the staff feels this sweet boy will as well.
Name: ROXY Animal ID: A205249 Breed: STAFFORDSHIRE MIX Age: 6M Weight: 31 2 Roxy (A205249) was adopted from ICAS and returned, at no fault of hers, a week later. Her adopter had an infant and a higher energy dog who loves to play with ALL people wasn't the best fit. Roxy's new owners do need to know that she is known to have an allergy reaction to vaccines, but as long as the vet knows beforehand it should not be any big issue at all. Her adopter had her inside majority of the time. They stated she know some basic commands and she loved children, but is not "easy" enough for very small children. Lets find this sweet girl (currently weighing 31 lbs) who is still young being 6 months old, a new home! Name: PRESLEIGH Animal ID: A205549 Breed: LABRADOR RETR / AUST SHEPHERD Age: 9Y Weight: 76 3 Presleigh (A205549) was surrendered to the shelter by her owner. They say that got Presleigh when she was a puppy 9 years ago, but they no longer have time for her. The owner also stated that Presleigh has separation anxiety and has chewed through a crate (metal). Now that her owner is working more than 40 hours a week Presleigh has shown more anxiety and the owner just doesn't have the time for her. Presleigh is solid white and dogs that are solid white are more susceptible to getting sun burnt and having skin issues (allergies). They stated Presleigh was an inside only dog, which is what we would recommend. A dog that has anxiety issues should not be left alone outside. The owner also stated that the 1st four years of Presleigh's life she was crate trained with no issues. They then started letting her free roam in the house, until after their child was born and started to crate her again, which is when she started to chew through the crates. Presleigh knows some basic commands and the owner stated that she is great with children. Though Presleigh likes to pick and choose which dogs she likes to be around, but they say has never had any issues with puppies. We know that most people are not ready to take on a dog like Presleigh. What would make her the best dog? A home where someone is often home, works from home or is a stay at home parent. This would decrease her separation anxiety which would cut down on all the "flaws" she seems to have.
Name: RICO SUAVE Animal ID: A205654 Breed: PIT BULL Weight: 65 4 Rico Suave was picked up as a stray. Though everyone in the neighborhood had seen him loose for a while no one knew whom he belonged to. Once at the shelter, still no owner came to claim him. Rico Suave has a catching name because his face will also draw you in! He is so handsome and just as friendly. Rico Suave also dog tested well, but we always recommend if you have another dog to bring them in for a meet and greet to make sure they will be great friends! Name: MELEA Animal ID: A205696 Breed: LABRADOR RETR MIX Age: 1Y Weight: 65 5 Malea was brought to the shelter as a stray. She was never claimed by an owner even though she was wearing a collar. Malea had a wound on her should, which has almost completely healed while being here at the shelter. Malea is a little shy at 1st, but is very sweet! We do not know her back ground. She could have had some trauma that caused the wound and the timid-ness. Malea was very passive when dog tested. We do recommend if you have another dog in your life to bring them in for a meet and greet. Name: JUNEBUG Animal ID: A205690 Breed: PIT BULL MIX Age: 10M Weight: 32 6 Junebug came to the shelter underweight at 20 lbs. She was still just as friendly as she could be. Her fur was dull, which we believe was probably from poor living conditions. Junebug has since put on over 10 lbs and looks much healthier than when she first arrived at ICAS. Junebug also tested well with another dog. This girl wants nothing more than to love on someone and to be loved back! Could you provide that for this sweet girl?
Name: DANAICA Animal ID: A205688 Breed: AUST CATTLE DOG / LABRADOR RETR Weight: 56 7 Name: MISS PIGGY Animal ID: A205727 Breed: PIT BULL Weight: 43 8 Miss Piggy was caught in a trap. She was brought to the shelter and never claimed by an owner. This very sweet girl was making her way to adoptions when we discovered that she is sadly, heartworm positive. Heartworms can be treated, but not everyone can take on that responsibility. Miss Piggy tested fairly well with another dog, but was dominant (the other dog was a high energy pit mix as well). Name: ARNETTE Animal ID: A205697 Breed: DOMESTIC LH Weight: 8 9
Name: HONEY Animal ID: A189209 Breed: GERM SHEPHERD MIX Age: 1Y 4M Weight: 46 10 Honey was surrendered to the shelter by her owners. They stated they had gotten her from the previous owners several months ago and stated they were unaware of her "problems" and unable to continue to pay for them. Honey has been battling whip and hookworms for some time. We have continued her deworming treatment hoping we can clear this infestation of the parasites. Parasites are very common in dogs that are not regularly dewormed. Many heartworm medicines and flea/tick preventatives have a dewormer in them to keep them protected each month. Once treated if continued care is given it no longer becomes an issue. Due to Honey having these pesky critters she is much thinner than she should be. Along with her dewormer we have started a new feeding schedule for her to help her put on some weight, which she seems to be doing while she has been here at the shelter. Honey seems to be a more dominant dog when she was dog tested and may be best as an only dog. We recommend if you have another furry love in your life, to bring them in for a meet and greet before committing to taking Honey home.
