T H E I R I S H W O L F H O U N D R E S C U E T R U S T Trustees: Mr Roger Tebbutt, Mrs Jan Pain, Ms Jean Timmins, Mrs Linda Lees It is an unfortunate fact that occasionally, for various reasons; some owners find they are no longer able to keep their Irish Wolfhounds. The Irish Wolfhound Rescue Trust was formed in 1967, by a group of responsible breeders, who realised there was a need to offer assistance to such owners. The Trust aims to find suitable new homes for these great hounds and to raise the money necessary to finance such an organisation. The Secretary of the Trust keeps a register of possible homes and in the event of a home being needed, endeavours to put the owner of the hound in direct contact with a suitable new owner. This organisation does not deal in Irish Wolfhounds, and makes no charge for this service, but its expenses such as veterinary fees are considerable. For this reason, as a new owner, you are expected to make a donation which is at your discretion but usually at least 150, or in the case of a hound of twelve months or under 300, (more would of course, be most welcome!) Bearing in mind the cost of a twelve-week-old puppy is in the region of 1800 and sometimes more, this sum is not onerous. It is an express condition of this Rescue Trust that any hound placed in a new home, shall not be used for showing or breeding, or be sold. For this reason, all papers, such as pedigrees and registrations, are retained by the Trust and the new owners are required to enter into a written undertaking regarding this. We also ask that details of hounds re-homed through the Trust are not placed on Facebook or other social media. The Trust is always grateful to hear from those willing to offer homes and help. Obviously Rescue hounds cannot be supplied to order and searching enquiries have to be made to ensure that the new home is suitable. Furthermore, it is necessary to make quite sure that prospective new owners know what it s like, to have a new family member weighing anything up to fourteen stone! Wolfhounds need expensive food and extensive exercise if they are to be kept fit, healthy and out of mischief. It is also important to keep pet insurance in force against 3 rd party and veterinary fees policies that offer lifetime cover, rather than those that are capped, should be preferred. Upon completion of the Questionnaire and Adoption Contract, arrangements are made for a visit from an experienced Wolfhound owner, who will often bring along an adult wolfhound. This gives potential owners the opportunity to ask questions and to experience sharing a sitting room with such a giant hound. You also have to ensure you have adequate 3 rd party and pet insurance when you take on a hound, and obviously agree to keep he or she under control at all times. If you are lucky enough to be offered a companion Irish Wolfhound by the Rescue Trust, you should send your donation, made payable to The Irish Wolfhound Rescue Trust either to the Secretary or directly to the Treasurer. On no account should any payment be made to the person from whom you collect your hound. TO MAKE AN APPLICATION PLEASE COMPLETE AND SIGN BOTH THE APPLICATION FORM AND ONE COPY OF THE CONTRACT; PLEASE READ THE CONTRACT FULLY AND SIGN TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE CONTENT AND RETURN BY POST TO : Hon Secretary Wendy Heather Tel : 01993 868118 Mobile : 07968733412 (text for return call) Email : irishwolfhoundrescue@gmail.com 1

What happens to the dog if you are on holiday How far would you be prepared to travel in order to collect a hound? Thank you for completing this questionnaire. You will then have the opportunity to ask questions and gain some insight into living with such a giant breed of hound. Someone will contact you, to arrange a convenient time to call. Signed...
