PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Pat Dimitrovski The leaves are changing and winter is just around the corner. We have enjoyed a great year with our Border Terriers so far. We started our year off with a grooming day in February. It was cold outside, but we still had a great turn out. After pulling coats off our Borders, we enjoyed a special guest speaker. Jane Parker, Conundrum Border Terriers gave us a talk on the Form and Function of our Border Terriers. Our Fun Day in July was a great time to come out and enjoy a day with our Borders and friends. Our Specialty at the end of August was wonderful. We had beautiful weather for our show held in Long Sault with the St. Lawrence River as our back drop. Julie LaFreniere, judged Sweepstakes for the young dogs and the veterans. Barbara Steinbacher Dalane judged our regular classes. We followed up our day with a picnic style pot luck dinner and our ever popular silent auction. We held our Earthdog tests in September. It rained all day Saturday. The dogs did not care that it was raining, and our rain suits got a workout! Sunday was a beautiful sunny day and the dogs were ready once again for the quarry. It was wonderful to see the dogs turn on their natural instincts. 2014 is an election year. Think about saying yes when you are asked about joining the board. Our club needs you! I wish you health and happiness always, with your Border Terriers. Best Regards, Pat Dimitrovski President

Border Terrier Club Of Ontario Sunday, August 25 2013 Barbara Steinbacher Dalane, judge Thank you to the club members for the opportunity of being the judge. To start our weekend, Julie La Franiere, my sister Ann Steinbacher and I had the most enjoyable time at the pre show dinner with showchair, Jane Cairns. The show site overlooking the lake was beautiful. Unfortunatly, I do not remember the name of the ring steward who was most helpful and kept things on track. On to the judging, thank you to the exhibtors for their entries and for the good sportsmanship they showed in and out of the ring. I was impressed with the depth of quality and temperament of the exhibits. The Border Terriers are in Good Stead in Canada. After the show then the fun continued with a lovely picnic. Great food and great company with many interesting tales about dockeys, horses, recipes, wine, dog training, lambs, moves from England and of course Borders. Border people are the best. Education Report: Bev Ferguson reported that we had held a CGN test at the Georgina Show in the fall of 2012. We also held a grooming day with guest speaker, Jane Parker in February 2013. Bev offered to continue to hold events such as these as long as they were well attended. Fun Day Report: Jen Holder reported that we had a relatively low turn out for the fun day but that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. She reiterated that Uxbridge Shooting Sports is very good to us in letting us use their facility for this event at nominal cost. Earthdog Report: Kirsten Goodman submitted the following report: 2012 proved to be a quiet year for Earthdog events for the BTCO. No tests were held due to a shortage of manpower and the lack of available location. In 2013 two sets of tests will be offered by BTCO at Laurelwood on September 20 th and 21 st (editor s note: these dates should read 21 st and 22 nd ) with Jeanette and Chris Burger of Kettering, Ohio judging. On July 13 th, at the annual BTCO Fun Day, an introduction to Earthdog event and a modified brush hunt garnered much interest and participation by those attending. Many of our members remain active and dedicated in the sport and titles are steadily being
15 obtained. Respectfully submitted, Kirsten Goodman Earthdog Committee Chairman Show Chair Report: Karen Nesbitt reported that the 2012 Specialty was held on August 25, 2012 in conjuction with SD&G shows at Long Sault, ON. Specialty rebate from SD&G: $168.80 (this is net after deducting judges hotel rooms and other expenses). Overall impression: we received many favourable comments from exhibitors and our judges regarding the club s hospitality, the venue and the overall friendliness of the show. Newsletter report: Debbie Miyashita reported: : took on the newsletter in 2011 : have done 5 issues : Not consistent-doesn t seem to be enough news to put out 4 issues a year. : Perhaps 2 issues/year is enough? Spring-Summer and Fall-Winter? : Takes 5-10 hours to put one together with revisions, additions, changes. : Need ideas to make the newsletter more fun and readable. : Thank you to those many people who have contributed pictures, stories, articles, show results, etc. : Please submit your show photos to me a.s.a.p. and I will aim for a September issue with the results and photos in it. Ongoing Business: Debbie Miyashita brought up the idea of combining our specialty on a weekend with the national club. This was favourably received by those present, recognizing that there are challenges. Susan Graham suggested that every 4 years the clubs could come together to hold their specialties thereby boosting entries for both clubs. Other ongoing business: we still need people to volunteer for the September earthdog event. New Business: 2014 is an election year and a nominating committee needs to be formed. Debbie will include this in the newsletter.
16 Bev Ferguson (show chair for 2014) reported that Jean Singh (Vandemeer border terriers) has accepted the judging assignment. We have agreed to pay her airfare and 2 nights hotel. Amanda Pough will judge the sweeps and has accepted the offer of gas money and 2 nights hotel. The show will be held in conjunction with Eries Shores Kennel Club shows. Our show will be on the Saturday as Terrier Breeders is on the Sunday. We have the option of showing inside or outside. Bev will need volunteers for committees. The website was discussed and it was agreed that it could be more up to date and informative. Sue Graham will continue to work on this. There was some discussion about starting a Facebook page in order to keep relevant. Adjournment: 6:00 pm
