Welcome to Last Chance Hotel's Newsletter Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue & Rehome Misty Autumn mornings, darker evenings, and Halloween approaching. October is here and so is our fourth newsletter, dropping gently into your Inbox. As usual, there is good news and bad news. If this newsletter ever has nothing but good news then it will be time to get out the champagne! The constant stream of dogs needing rescue never ends. In September, we had cases of owner abandonment, severe neglect and abuse, and dogs given up because of behavioural issues. Last Chance Hotel is here to rescue, not to judge, but we will never understand the mentality of the human who can hand in their dog to the local pound simply because it is old and unwell. A dog is part of the family, and should be treated as such, not as an inanimate object to be discarded when it suits. And how is it possible to watch an otherwise healthy animal become so weak and emaciated it can barely stand? LCH is here to rescue, but our dream is that one day we won't have to. Last Chance Hotel has rehomed hundreds of dogs since its beginnings in 2011. Last year (2015) 182 happy hounds found their "furever" homes, and nine months into this year, 135 dogs are curled up with their loving new family. This is all good news, but LCH is continually under pressure, doing whatever the charity can to save as many lives as possible from death row. With a strict "no kill" policy, LCH aims to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome, provide palliative care when it is needed, or a home for life. Running costs are high and never ending, and although our hardworking volunteers give their time freely, funds are always desperately needed to service vet bills, transport expenses and other outgoings. This past month we have had several dogs come in to the rescue who need extensive veterinary treatment due to serious conditions. All donations are truly appreciated and we put them to work immediately. DONATE TO LAST CHANCE HOTEL

New Arrivals This month there were some very sad cases of neglect and abandonment. Charlie the lurcher youngster came in from the pound deeply traumatised and so starved she could hardly bear her own weight. Flo, another lurcher, has a problem with a back leg, probably from an old fracture. Bracken, an elderly lady, was abandoned by her owners in the pound. She has serious health issues including Cushing's and cancer. Jessie, a sweet crossbreed with a lovely temperament ended up in the pound aged 13. Jack the JRT came in with a severe skin condition, but is already looking much better after just two weeks in Andrew's care and is now in permanent foster with him; what a happy chappie he is! All these dogs, and the others that came in to rescue this month, are now being given the TLC they deserve. Some of them are now ready for adoption. If you would like to follow the progress of the incomers, check out our Facebook page and website lastchancehotel.org. We now have a new section for dogs under assessment; dogs are constantly being assessed in their foster homes and information changes regularly. Still Waiting

Still Waiting Some dogs find a new home very quickly, and some wait quite a while for that special someone to come along and give them the love and security of a forever home. When that special someone does come along, it is always worth the wait. Josie has been chosen as Rosie's Dog of the Month for September. Josie is a simple dog... she may have some form of dog Autism... she is happy playing with her ball/stick/toy. She is more than happy with one walk a day, she loves company and is such an easy dog, as long as nothing changes. She likes her simple routine. She cannot deal with dogs etc jumping up and being in her face. She just cannot cope. She needs a quiet life, in a quiet home... with quiet people... just simple stuff... There has to be a quiet home for this big girl. Dyson is very intelligent and knows each of his toys by name, and, if asked, will happily fetch them to show you. He loves cuddles and attention and is very happy to travel in the car. He is one mass of wiggles and would be a brilliant van companion for someone. George is a lovely old boy who is still looking for a home to call his very own. His foster mum says this about him: "The lovely George. He is an older, stocky, dumpy little staffy who loves to be with people. He is approximately 13 years old, he s not cat tested but doesn't really show an interest in much. He loves his balls and kong and is really good on the lead. He is neutered and up to date with his vaccinations. A lovely calm home for George would be fantastic in his twilight years and somewhere he can just chill for the rest of his life. He would probably enjoy being an only dog." If you think you, or someone you know, could be that special someone for Josie, Dyson or George, please go to our website lastchancehotel.org or contact one of the team by email info@lastchancehotel.org Happy Departures to New Homes After successful meet and greets, several dogs trotted off to their forever homes.

Mouse, the beautiful lurcher, Fraggle the handsome Saluki, Maisie, Olive and Pip were amongst those who landed on their paws in September, and made their new families very happy. Who will it be next month? Did you know? Sit Happens is the great name for the dog socialisation and training club, held currently at Crofthandy Village Hall. The classes are held in blocks of six weeks, are free for fosterers of LCH dogs, and there is also a free puppy class. If you, or anyone you know, would benefit from training classes, Sarah would be happy to help you. A new block of classes starts Tuesday 11th October with sign up on the 4th. Contact: training@lastchancehotel.org, or check out lastchancehotel.org/sithappens. Do you shop at Pets at Home? If you haven't already, why not join their VIP scheme, which is easy to do, and you can help raise funds for Last Chance Hotel every time you shop. Simply nominate the Bodmin or Pool branches and Last Chance Hotel. You don't need to shop at these branches to raise funds for LCH. September Fundraisers at Landerio, Griggs and Troon Some of our fabulous fundraisers were very busy in September, with no less than three Fun Dogs Shows at various places across Cornwall, helping to raise awareness and much needed funds.

The Landerio Farm Horse Show at Mylor was held in early September, a fab day out for horse and dog lovers alike. There was a Fun Dog Show in aid of LCH, which had a massive turnout, and luckily the weather stayed dry. The standard of entries was very high, and the judge certainly had her work cut out! There were several Last Chancers in attendance, strutting their stuff with the others, and everyone had a great time. Thank you Selena and Landerio Farm for putting on a brilliant show. Troon Church Hall was packed with a fantastic turnout of pooches and owners for the Fun Dog Show on the 24th organised by our amazing supporter Andrew. Little Tatty, who came into rescue in September and is in foster with Louisa, won a third in the Best Rescue class, and her 13 year old housemate Lita won the Naughtiest Dog class and third Best in Show. It was a great afternoon enjoyed by all. Grateful thanks to judge Becca Sampson and Andrew for all your hard work! On the same day Griggs of Sticker held their Open Day, a great family day out.

LCH were there with loads of goodies for sale and also held a Fun Dog Show for the lucky pooches that went along. Lots of LCH dogs there, as well as many others, dry weather, fab people, and a great day had by all. Roll on the next one! Pictured at Griggs Open Day are Mrs Andrews with Alfie and Ted, Kyrenia, aged 9, with her dogs Poppy and Matty, and Saffron, aged 6, with rescue dog Mist. Proudly donning their rosettes are TJ, who came 2nd in Best Crossbreed, and Mimi, who took 3rd place in the Best Rescue class. Thank You! Winter Warmers Appeal An appeal for duvets, blankets and dog beds went out to our supporters at the beginning of the month. These were primarily for the sanctuary run by Joy Keys in Dorset, to help keep the dogs warm through the winter. As usual, our supporters came up trumps and managed to fill an entire van with goodies and warm bedding. Grateful thanks to all of you who contributed, and to Rebecca for collecting and delivering the donated items to us. Sofa so good Hattie Hatstand says "Thank you" to Julian Foye furniture retailers for the fabulous donation of a sofa! Car Boot Booty and Special Delivery Thanks to Debbie Richards for her unstinting support for the dogs by holding car boot sales, - a great way to recycle and raise much needed funds. And to Denise Hayes for the parcel of goodies for the dogs, thank you so much. Pampers for Pooches

Michele Ridgeway of "Whiskers and Tails", Par, has kindly offered free grooming sessions for LCH foster dogs, to help them on their way to a new home. Thank you Michele, for your fab offer, we look forward to seeing the before and after pics! Sunday 13th November 2016 Dates for your Diary Jumble Sale and Social Day at Crofthandy Village Hall, Nr St Day, TR16 5JQ 10am - 4pm Come along, grab a bargain and meet the team. Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent.
