Microchips By Senior Animal Services Officer Miller Get your dog microchipped to help us reunite your animals to the proper pet owners. You can get you microchip implanted at Garland Animals Services for $25. If your animal is ever impounded and has a microchip and is sterilized, the impoundment fee is waived. Don t rely on personal identification tags that can easy fall off. Get your pet microchipped to permanently stow away owner information to better help return animals to their loved ones. Be Your Pet's Hero Microchip Your Pet Another happy citizen!!! Staff returned a dog in the field after being picked up and verifying that it had a microchip. Our Team has maximized efforts to increase microchip sales by consistently promoting the many benefits of having pets microchipped. One of those benefits is a free return in the field for first time offenders, a savings of more than $100 to the pet owner.

By Senior Animal Services Officer Araiza The City of Garland does not have a leash law for cats, but there are laws preventing them from causing a nuisance. When feeding cats outside, you must remove all food when you are not present; not doing so will attract wild/ feral animals which is a violation of City Ordnance. It will also help with keeping the number of stray cats down. Another issue with cats creating a nuisance would be feces and cat urine. Cats will use flower beds like they would a litter box. They will also mark their areas which will cause foul odors. Another issue that comes along with the marking is unwanted cat pregnancies. That will lead to cat over population. We have a program to help with the unwanted cat population. The program is called TNR. What the program does is that the animal is humanely trapped and brought into the shelter. At that point TNR will come in, pick up the animal and then Spay or Neuter the animal. After the animal has been sterilized the animal is released back in the same area that the animal was picked up in. Which in turn, the sterilized cat will likely push the unwanted cats out of the area. What is a Feral Cat? Feral cats, also called community cats, are members of the domestic cat species just like pet cats, but are not socialized to people and are therefore not adoptable. Cats have been living outdoors near us for more than 10,000 years. They typically live in groups called colonies and have strong social bonds with their colony members. Remember if you want to help in the program TNR, you will need to let the officer picking up the cat know that you are wanting to do the program, so that he or she is able to put a hold for TNR on the cat. Contact our dispatch line at 972-205-3570 Option 1 for Water Department Dispatch. Let them know that you want a trapped cat picked up and you want to do the TNR program.
