To be awarded at Annual Awards Banquet in conjunction with Nat l events. c. The BOD voted via Email to include the 2017 Final Top 10 results in the Summer issue of the Wirenews. This decision was made after complaints were received from members who became aware of the decision not to include the Top10 in the Wirenews. A Survey will be included in the next Wirenews and will be posted on the GWPCA website, the GWPCA Facebook pages, and the Wiremail, to get membership opinions of the Wirenews and potential changes. (email votes to publish Top10 in the Wirenews were made by JQ, BP, EB, MB and WB. JB and CH did not cast votes) d. Received notice from AKC that National Specialty winners are eligible to receive invitation to Crufts. I ve replied asking if GWPs can compete, since from what I have heard, docked breeds are ineligible to compete at Crufts. e. AKC sent a reminder that there are scammers that are sending emails to AKC clubs with email addresses identical to club members, requesting funds. We have received these in the past, and another scam email recently was received from an email address appearing to be Jim Boyd. Please beware! f. Bylaws (Chuck Casanova and Ray Calkins) Chuck and I have sent our recommendations for the By-Laws to the BOD. I can be available if the BOD has any questions. Ray Dialed into BOD meeting to go over recommended changes; according to Ray, the bulk of the work was completed by Chuck. b. CHIC (Robin Nelson) I am happy to report we are approaching 200 GWP s with CHIC numbers, currently at 187 dogs. This is the 10th year of our CHIC program and I am very proud of what our Club has accomplished. I am still promoting our 2018 Health Survey and to date Michelle reports 79 responses. I am disappointed in that number as our Club lists over 300 households. If you haven t completed the Survey, please do, and if you are a Breeder, I would appreciate you personally contacting your owners for their input as well. I may extend the April 1st deadline hoping for more responses. Thank you for your help. I have contacted a Cardiologist for a Cardiac Clinic at 2018 Nationals, but we will need a certain number of participants to make it work for Dr. Sikorska. With Bernee s help I have advertised on FB...in fact I am becoming a relentless pest. I would very much appreciate the Board promoting our Cardiac Clinic and if Steve K and Lori S can advertise in the Wire~Mail and on our GWPCA.com Nationals page on the website, I would appreciate it. Unfortunately, I need to have numbers to seal the deal. I know our fancy tends to procrastinate, and last-minute add ons will be difficult to accommodate. Any suggestions on how to promote the clinic are appreciated. Lastly, as we approach our 200 dog, 10 year CHIC Program anniversary, I would like to suggest the GWPCA find a new CHIC liaison. I have very much enjoyed my stint in this capacity, but it is time for new, young ideas. I might also recommend the Board open up the GWPCA Health Committee to other members. I have had several people express an interest. Would this be something to discuss at the 2018 Nationals annual meeting? c. AKC Delegate (Pat Laurans) no report d. FEAC (Liz Dixon) the balloting finished for 2018, and I have 2 judges that have accepted. Still waiting to hear from the other 2 one was checking his vacation, and haven t heard from the other. I have made contact again with both of them, hopefully will have a judges panel soon! e. Field Futurity (Tom Lococco) no report f. National Events Manual (Judy Cheshire) no report g. Nominating Committee (vacant) Nominating committee shall be chosen by the Board of Directors before June 1 in each year. The Committee shall consist of five members in good standing, no more than one of which shall be a member of the current Board of Directors. The Board shall name a chairman for the Committee. r. Wire News (Riley Devos/Laura Reeves) The WireNews Spring issue is set to be mailed on or about April 1. While I would like to reduce the turnaround time from deadline to mailing, I think this is acceptable for our first issue. I would encourage the bod & membership to continue to support our club's magazine. The deadline for the summer issue is May 1 for advertising and content. This will be the stud dog/breeder/puppy issue... Riley has some cool ideas for advertising, so we hope everyone will touch base with her on that. s. WireMail (Steve Kreuser) no report t. Webmaster (Lori Sargent) no report u. Legislative Liaison (Joan Payton) The Maryland House of Representatives has approved a measure which will prohibit retail pet stores (defined as any "for profit establishment open to the public that sells or offers for sale domestic animals to be kept as pets") from selling any dogs or cats. Instead, they would only be allowed to "showcase" animals available for adoption from an animal welfare organization or animal control unit. The New York State Assembly could soon vote on a bill that would impact hobby breeders who breed and sell animals in the state. New York residents are strongly encouraged to contact their State Assemblyperson to express concerns with Assembly Bill 465. In Connecticut, a bill is scheduled to be considered by the Joint Judiciary Committee on Monday, March 26, seeks to make it an infraction for an individual to knowingly misrepresent a pet as a service animal or being trained to be a service animal. The American Kennel Club (AKC) supports House Bill 5566 and encourages all Connecticut residents to contact the members of the Joint Judiciary Committee and encourage them to support House Bill 5566. 5. Membership Coordinator (Angie Johnson) Membership Renewals end 03/31/2018. Any 2017 renewals after that time are considered new members. As of 03/26/2018, 28 memberships have not renewed from 2017. Since this event will be held with a cluster dog show which will also be holding 4 other national specialty events we will be holding our national event on Fri, with the regional being on either Thursday or Saturday. There hasn't been any interest for a local club to hold a specialty. This show has many events that our club members would like to participate in, Agility, scent work, lure coursing, etc. Should be a fun event! But it needs a lot of coordination which Laura Myles is working on. I potentially have a speaker for this year's GWPU at Nationals but I have not been able to get hold of Cindy Heiller. I received the following response from the speaker and I need to get it approved or a suggestion for a revision so I can confirm this speaker. The topic is anxiety in dogs. o "We can confirm tentatively - what are we looking at for the time of day? We could do Tues PM / Weds AM or Friday PM / Saturday AM but it depends on the time of day. Cost would be $700 to cover travel costs/time, 1-1.5 hrs of speaking, and a hotel for the night. I'm having Dr. Feltes be the speaker as she can address the medication questions best. We'll both be there :-) Topic sounds good - I agree there is a lot of new information out there that can benefit breeders/owners about anxiety both on a genetic level and on a treatment level. o A motion is made that this is too expensive, and the club will not support this speaker for GWPU. All Members approved. b. The Bylaws state that the annual meeting must occur in conjunction with the combined national events in Oct each year. The annual meeting will be during the event, but it will actually be on Sept 29. Do you think that the BOD needs to approve the change? a. The board approves the change. c. 2018 Nationals Obedience/Rally Judge o The original judge backed out and so now we need approval for Cheryl Pratt. o All approved. d. NAVHDA Top Producer Stats o 2018 will be the first year that the NAVHDA point scale will be added to the total points for the Top Producer awards. While it wasn't a quick or easy task, I was able to get all of the information for the NAVHDA headquarters to compile a list of the sires and dams that had offspring Prize in NAVHDA in 2017. o There are 23 pages of NAVHDA sire report and 24 pages of dam report. Due to the large number, I sent Lori Sargent all dogs/bitches that earned 8 points or more (13 dogs, 20 bitches). Lori has configured the Top Producer Award with AKC points exclusively for the past several years. Now that NAVHDA is included it could come down to a few points apart. o I have requested a list of at minimum the top 5 sires and dams so that I can verify their points in NAVHDA vs Lori's AKC points, as well as determine if any of the top pointed AKC sires/dams may not have been included on the list I submitted to her. o A motion is made that Lori share the stats with Courtney to have an accurate tally. All approved. e. Bird Dog Hall of Fame o Deb Finstad was contacted about a pledge from GWPCA. The board members who were on the board at the time said this was not approved by the BOD. Do we need to notify someone? Erika will notify Bird Dog Hall of Fame and Deb Finstad and notify them that the GWPCA never approved this pledge. f. Rotational national destination selection
o 2 to 3 locations approved for each region of the country and try to stick to those locations to save ground work. g. Breed information on AKC website o AKC has requested we update breed information on the AKC website, following a requested format. o Erika will look h. The FEAC has finished the balloting. Our proposed ballot is: o Chris Streitenberger (OH) NAFC, Derby o Chris Goegan (OH), NAFC, Derby o Tim Carwile (VA) NFC, Puppy, Futurity o Heath Kooima (IA) NFC, Puppy, Futurity They have all agreed to judge, and with the BOD s approval, I will send out the Judge s Questionnaire and get an estimated cost for each of them. Heath Kooima would like to fly, but he looked at round trip tickets and it would only be about $300 for the flight. He would need a car and a room. The other one I m not sure of is Tim Carwile, he will have his own horses, but not sure if he has a LQ trailer or not. The other 2 do. Motion to accept these judges. All Approved. i. Merchandise for Nationals o A motion is made to have a second, non-character design available for GWPCA Nationals items. William will bring an option to the BOD, and will look into mark-ups. 14. Next Meeting: Thursday, April 26 at 8pm EST/5pm PST 15. Meeting Adjourned
