The Newsletter of Youngstown All Breed Training Club 13210 Mahoning Ave. P.O. Box 397 North Jackson, Oh 44451-0397 http://www.yabtc.com 330-538-2907 It s Ground Hog Day!!! - By Marla Belzowski Editor Once again by the time I get this newsletter out, it will be after Ground Hog day and we already know Punxsutawny Phil is predicting another 6 weeks of winter but offically, winter isn t over until the Vernal Equinox anyways (which is March 20 th, the offical start of spring, and more than another 6 weeks anyways). So remember to keep your outdoor critters warm in a nice barn or other shelter with plenty of straw for bedding. Keep your cats and dogs indoors or in housing conditions where they are warm and dry. Be alert for frost bite on man and beast alike. Soon enough spring will come around, and we will leap forward on the clocks (on March 8th this year) and all look forward to the spring shows and our annual Puppy match. Until then, stay warm! Even more brags From Dan and Vilma O Neill Two of the 3 days Kayla was at the IX show in Dec. she won the Breed. It was the end of a big year for the Diamond Farm bitch. 2014 ended with BOB's. Now onto puppies for Kayla. Early Jan. she started down her mommy year 2015. Barn Hunt is an exciting new sport that puts your dog's nose to the test. Your dog must navigate through the maze of straw/ hay in search of a hidden tube (s). The dog must perform three tasks while on the course: climb, tunnel and successful signal that they have found the tube. Dan & Vilma O'Neill say farewell to a FAB 2014 and hello to another promising year, 2015. Just in time for Valentine s Day From Cheryl Tuna Fudge Two 6 oz cans tuna, do not drain (or other canned fish) 2 eggs beaten 1 1/2 C Flour 1/4 C parmesan cheese Optional 1 teaspoon garlic powder Mix tuna and beaten eggs. Add rest of ingredients, mix. Spread in a greased/sprayed 9 x 13 cake pan Bake at 350 for 20 minutes Cool, slice and then dice into bite size pieces. Refrigerate or freeze treats. I put treats in snack size bags into larger freezer bag in freezer. In summer, I just take bag out before dog class and put in pocket. In winter, I place on counter 30 minutes before I leave. I only use for class or nail clipping/bath time. If your dog is allergic to flour, other flours like oatmeal flour can be used. I like to substitute 1 can of tuna with some pure pumpkin. You can either use tuna can to measure or use half of a 15 oz can of pumpkin. Feel free to change recipe according to your dog's favorites. Barn Hunt It s catching on! As the handler you must learn to read your dog's body language as the dog is "naked" while on the secured course. What attracted me to the sport was that any dog, purebred or mix, of any age can join in the fun. It has proven to be a fabulous outlet for my dogs and my clients' dogs. Since I started my first workshop 3 years ago I have seen Barn Hunt become an outlet for many senior dogs and dogs with disabilities. It has been therapy for reactive dogs and dogs with hyper sensitivities. I have also seen the sport of barn hunting help shy and fearful dogs gain confidence and trust in their owner. My dogs and I have been competing for a little over a year now and we are hooked! My facility is in North Canton OH. I give private lessons, group lessons and have hosted 11 practice workshops in NE Ohio and PA. I m excited to share the sport with the club in March. Rat on!
