Introduction Recognition of success, participation, achievement or development are the underlying purposes of the Newfoundland Club Awards. Whether at local or national level, outstanding achievement deserves recognition. Winning an award brings prestige and motivation to Newfoundland owners. Award Year and Timing The Award year shall cover the 12 month period ending 30 June. The perpetual trophies will be presented to the winners at The Newfoundland Club Annual General Meeting Unless stated otherwise the closing date for award entries shall be 21 July each year with the Club Trophy Steward. The closing date for nominations for the Achievement award shall be in time for consideration at the last scheduled Club Committee meeting prior to the AGM. The nominations may be made ONLY BY BRANCH COMMITTEES and must be sent to the Club Secretary. Each of the awards has its specific eligibility criteria and these will be strictly adhered to. In general awards will only be made to the main guardian of the dog who has been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc during the applicable award year. For the purposes of the Club Awards Regulations the main guardian is the person mostly responsible for registration and the day-to-day care of the dog. Where a party to joint ownership resides outside New Zealand, the award may be presented only to a New Zealand domiciled owner and the trophy must not leave New Zealand. Correctness of In submitting entries and details for awards, the onus for accuracy is on the submitter. If possible all details should be endorsed or certified as correct by the Branch Chairperson or Secretary. The Trophy Steward may undertake a spot check on all or specific information supplied and, if false declarations are found to have been made, the total entry will be disqualified. Any Newfoundland found to have been entered and /or judged in a wrong class will be automatically disqualified from obtaining points for that event. The decision of the Trophy Steward or Club Committee in any dispute shall be final Updated October 2007 Page 3 of 22

ACHIEVEMENT TRO PHY Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. The guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o recognise significant achievement by either a Newfoundland whether a pet or otherwise or a Newfoundland owner or supporter. The trophy will be awarded by the Club for any significant achievement or achievements which may include. Participation in activities and programmes Contribution to the image of Newfoundland s Leadership Contribution to improvement of the Newfoundland Breed Community service such as rescue work, fund raising, assisting under-privileged groups etc Initiative and innovation To be submitted to the Club Committee by Branch Committees. Branch nominations to be forwarded to the Club Secretary together with supporting documentary evidence. A Branch may submit more than one nomination. Updated October 2007 Page 4 of 22

AMBASSADO R AWARD Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. The guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement. T o acknowledge & reward the contribution made by members & their dogs to community service leading to a wider understanding and appreciation of our breed. The trophy will be awarded by the Club to a member for any significant contribution to the community that may include Community service such as rescue work, fund raising for community organisations, assisting underprivileged groups etc. Timing And Presentation Unlike other awards awarded this award will not be awarded on an annual basis. From time to time a member of will be awarded the Ambassador Award for outstanding contribution to the community over an extended period of time. The closing date for nominations for the Ambassador award shall be in time for consideration at the last scheduled Club Committee meeting prior to the AGM. The nominations may be made only by a branch committee and must be sent to the Club Secretary. The Ambassador Award will be presented at either the Club AGM or at another event significant to The Club during the year and will be held for a period of one year. To be submitted to the Club Committee by Branch Committees. Branch nominations should be forwarded to the Club Secretary together with supporting documentary evidence. MO ST O UTSTANDING NEWFO UNDLAND Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. The guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o recognise the Newfoundland which has clearly demonstrated it is the most outstanding through results achieved and participation in all round activity. The trophy will be awarded to the Newfoundland which has accumulated the highest total aggregate points in the mandatory and supplementary categories. (a) Mandatory Categories To be eligible for consideration the entrant MUST obtain points in at least three of the following four categories. A maximum of 400 points per category can be credited. (i) Shows/Ribbon Parades Points as awarded and accumulated for the Show, Opposite Sex Show, Champion, Ribbon Parade and Reserve Ribbon Parade Newfoundland of the Year awards. (ii) Water Work Points as awarded and accumulated for the Water Work awards (iii) Obedience Points as awarded and accumulated for the Obedience Newfoundland of the Year award (iv) Draft Work Points as awarded and accumulated for the Draft Work awards (b) Supplementary Categories Points will be awarded as indicated for involvement in or contribution to the following supplementary fields of activity. (i) Community Service Activity in this field might include fund raising, assisting under-privileged groups, and promoting the breed in the community. A maximum of ten(10) activities may be claimed. For participation in each activity (ii) Rescue Work Actual live human rescue Rescuing personal effects (iii) Improvement of Breed Contribution to improving the breed through production of offspring (iv) General Any other special achievement or contribution made 15 points 100 points 25 points 50 points 50 points Updated October 2007 Page 6 of 22

SUPREME WO RKING NEWFO UNDLAND Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. The guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o recognise the Newfoundland which has clearly demonstrated it is the most outstanding working Newfoundland through results achieved and participation in all working activities. The trophy will be awarded to the Newfoundland, which has accumulated the highest aggregate points in the mandatory and supplementary categories. (a) Mandatory Categories To be eligible for consideration the entrant MUST obtain points in both of the following categories. There is a limit on the number of events from which points may be counted. This limit is different for each event and is stated under the particular event. Extra points are added on for the level of difficulty. (i) Water Work Points as awarded and accumulated for the Water Work awards Only the 3 best results may be counted. Extra points are added as follows: For each competition in the Junior Class (ii) For each competition in the Senior Class For achieving WRD in the award year For achieving WRDX in the award year Draft Work Points as awarded and accumulated for the Draft Work awards 20 points 50 points 100 points 150 points Only the 2 best manoeuvrability and the 2 best freight haul results may be counted. Extra points are added as follows: For each competition in the Junior Class For each competition in the Senior Class For each competition in the Premier C lass For achieving DD in the award year For achieving DDX in the award year +10 per merit 20 points +10 per merit 25 points + 10 per merit 100 points 150 points Updated October 2007 Page 8 of 22

(b) Non Mandatory Categories Points will be awarded as indicated for involvement in or contribution to the following supplementary fields of activity. (i) Obedience Points claimed for the best 3 results are to be the points scored in actual competition expressed as a percentage of the maximum achievable plus extra points as follows: Ribbon Champ Trial Show For each competition in a Special Beginners test 5 points 15 points For each competition in a Novice test 15 points 25 points For each competition in a Test A 35 points 45 points For each competition in a Test B 55 points 65 points For each competition in a Test C 75 points 85 points For achieving CD in the award year 100 points For achieving CDX in the award year 150 points For achieving OB CH in the award year 200 points (ii) Supplementary Points For participation in Demonstrations or Exhibitions of any discipline: For participation in each activity, 10 points up to a maximum of 50 points overall For participation in Carting Galas or Parades: For participation in each activity, 10 points up to a maximum of 50 points overall For any other outstanding contribution e.g. making training videos, being selected for team trials etc., a maximum of 50 points. The maximum total points that may be claimed in the Supplementary category is 150 Individual owners shall forward entries, with all available supporting data, to the Club Trophy Steward in the form of a letter of nomination Note T his trophy might not be awarded each year. SHO W & O PPO SITE SEX SHO W NEWFOUNDLAND O F THE YEAR Open to any individual Newfoundland who s owner(s) are NZKC registered and whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club. The main guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o encourage the showing of Newfoundland s in the NZKC annual national dog show, all breed championship and open shows, Club championship and open shows and Club or Branch ribbon parades and other recognised show activities. The trophies will be awarded to the Newfoundland s, one of each sex, which have accumulated the highest total aggregate points from placings, up to a maximum of 30 shows and ribbon parades entered. RIBBO N PARADE & RESERVE RIBBO N PARADE NEWFO UNDLAND O F THE YEAR Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. The guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o encourage participation by any Newfoundland whether pet or otherwise in Club or Branch ribbon parades. The trophies will be awarded to the Newfoundland s, which have accumulated the highest, and second highest total points from the best three results achieved in Club or Branch ribbon parades. The points will be awarded on the same basis as for the Club Ribbon Parades column of the Show Newfoundland of the Year award. Notes: Only one set of points may be claimed per parade for breed classes but all stake class points may be accumulated. Champion Newfoundland s and Newfoundland s with eight eligible NZKC Championship certificates enabling an application to be lodged for the title of New Zealand Champion are not eligible for receipt of points from the on parade section of ribbon parades. Points received from stakes class placings may not be credited toward competition for the Championship Ribbon Parade Newfoundland of the Year award. CHAMPION RIBBON PARADE NEWFOUNDLAND OF THE YEAR Open to any individual Newfoundland which has been officially awarded the NZKC title of New Zealand Champion and whose main guardian is also a financial member of The Newfoundland Club. The Main guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o encourage participation by any Newfoundland s who are NZKC Champions in Club or Branch ribbon parades. The trophy will be awarded to the Champion Newfoundland, which has accumulated the highest total points from the best three results achieved in Club or Branch ribbon parades. The points will be awarded on the same basis as for the Club Ribbon Parades column of the Show Newfoundland of the Year award. Note: Only one set of points may be claimed per parade for Champion on Parade. Entry is Automatic Updated October 2007 Page 13 of 22

O BEDIENCE NEWFO UNDLAND O F THE YEAR Open to any individual Newfoundland who s owner(s) are NZKC registered and whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club. The main guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o recognise the Newfoundland which has clearly demonstrated it is the best performer through results achieved and participation in obedience activity. The trophy will be awarded to the Newfoundland which has accumulated the highest total aggregate points from 20 Obedience trials (Ribbon & Champ) will be awarded on the following basis. T o encourage the participation of Newfoundland s in Club and Branch carting and draft competitions and activities Awards Available Draft Newfoundland of the Year Premier Manoeuvrability Award Premier Freight Haul Award Senior Manoeuvrability Award Senior Freight Haul Award Junior Manoeuvrability Award Junior Freight Haul Award Points may be claimed as follows: Points claimed for Premier awards may be earned only from competition in the Premier Class Points claimed for Senior awards may be earned only from competition in the Senior class Points claimed for Junior awards may be earned only from competition in the Junior class Points may be claimed (for all awards) as points scored in actual competition expressed as a percentage of the maximum achievable plus 20 points for any merit awarded. 75 points may be claimed (for the Draft Newfoundland of the Year award only) for any dog who achieves the title of Newfoundland Draft Dog (DD, and 100 points may be claimed for any Newfoundland that achieves Draft Dog with Excellence (DDX) title. 10 points per activity may be claimed (for the Draft Newfoundland of the Year award only) for participation in the supplementary activities fund raising galas, demonstrations and other Club or Branch draft activities. A maximum of ten(10) activities may be claimed. Points may be claimed from your 3 best results Note This trophy might not be awarded each year. The decision on whether nominees merit receipt of the award will be made by the Club Committee with any available supporting data, shall be forwarded by individual owners to the Club Trophy Steward in the form of a letter of nomination for Draft Newfoundland of the Year. VETERAN NEWFO UNDLAND O F THE YEAR Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. The guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o encourage the participation by any veteran Newfoundland whether a pet or otherwise in Club and Branch shows, ribbon parades and other activities The trophy will be awarded to the veteran Newfoundland which has accumulated the highest total points in Club and Branch shows, ribbon parades and other activities. Points may only be accumulated after the Newfoundland has qualified as a veteran Points may be claimed on the following basis: For Championship or O pen Shows Points as for Newfoundland Champion and Open Show results in the Show Newfoundland of the Year Award For Ribbon Parades Points as for the Ribbon Parade Newfoundland of the Year award For O bedience Points as for Obedience Newfoundland of the Year award. Water Work Points as for the Water Work awards Draught Work Points as for the Draught Work Awards Supplementary Categories Points as for the supplementary categories for Most Outstanding Newfoundland award. STUD DO G AND BRO O D BITCH O F THE YEAR Open to any individual Newfoundland who s owner(s) are NZKC registered and whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club. The main guardian must have been a financial member of The Newfoundland Club at the time of the achievement and have accumulated points in each of the mandatory categories. T o encourage a meaningful contribution to the improvement of the breed by way of successful progeny and also to recognise the contribution to the image of Newfoundland s by way of participation in Newfoundland Club recognised events Awards Available Stud Dog of the Year (Ch Bonavista Call-O-The Wild Memorial Trophy) Brood Bitch of the Year (Ch Stormsail Rothorn Memorial Trophy) The trophies will be awarded to the Newfoundland dog and bitch which have separately accumulated the highest total points Points may be claimed as follows: 50 points per progeny that achieves Champion status, Obedience Champion, Water Dog or Draft Dog status. 10 points per title per progeny that has already achieved these titles 20 points per registered litter in the year of registration 10% of the points that its progeny is entitled to receive for; Shows, Waterworks, Draught Work, Obedience and Supplementary categories. with any available supporting data, shall be forwarded by individual owners to the Club Trophy Steward in the form of a letter of nomination. ALL NEWF WEEKEND AWARDS Open to any individual Newfoundland whose main guardian is a financial member of The Newfoundland Club Inc. T o recognise significant participation by a Newfoundland owner or supporter and by a Newfoundland whether a pet or otherwise in all the activities at the All Newf Weekend Awards Available Spirit of Taupo Trophy Taupo All-Round Newfoundland The Spirit of Taupo award will be judged at the weekend by a selected guest judge The All-Round Newfoundland award will be presented to the Newfoundland, which accumulates the highest number of points during the weekend according to the criteria laid down for the Most Outstanding Newfoundland of the Year award. PHOTOGRAPHIC AWARD Open to any financial member of who has photographed Newfoundland s or a Newfoundland. T o recognise a special photograph featuring Newfoundland s or a Newfoundland. The Club will award the trophy to a financial member who has photographed the Newfoundland breed of dog. Image needs to be submitted as a hardcopy print. The original photograph must be submitted prior to 21 July for inclusion. The winning photograph will feature on the front cover of an issue of the Gentle Touch published within the next 12 months. LITERARY AWARD Open to any financial member of who has published an article in any official Club publication. T o recognise contributions to the official publications of. The Club will award the trophy to a financial member who has published an article in an official Club publication and that article has not been published previously. All articles published in an official Club publication will automatically be entered. The winning article will be republished in an issue of the Gentle Touch published within the next 12 months.
