Obedience Club of Daytona, Inc. Volume 32 / Issue 1 www.ocodb.org January 2013 MEETING LOCATION: Daytona Beach Country Club Restaurant 600 Wilder Blvd. Daytona Beach, Fl. 7:00pm General Meeting with Members & Guests President: Chris Franczek 386-677-8619 franczek@earthlink.net Vice Pres.: Janet Narushka Secretary: Kathy Nicastro Treasurer: Hoke Johnson Board of Directors: Ray Stites Joe White Janet Berry OBEDIENCE: 672-8410 Janet N. 761-1095 Joan C. 677-4528 Renee J. President s Message NEXT MEETING 7:00 PM, Monday, January 14, 2013 Organization of Committees & Calendar of Events AGILITY TRIAL January 25, 26, 27 & 28th (set-up on Thursday, 24th at 10:00am) Despite the scary weather that night, we had a great time at our annual awards dinner. A big thank you to Bob (Santa's new elf) for keeping the gift stealing (I mean giving) in order and Reneé for getting the long list of awards out to our growing band of most excellent dog trainers. I couldn't help but reminisce when the club logo flashed on the screen. When we started the club in October, 1982, our vision was on the four pads of the paw print - Novice, Open, Utility and Tracking. What a long way our members have come with their titles. It is not too early to start working on your titles for 2013. I hope everyone enjoyed graduation night and is inspired by the demos to sign up for the January classes. If your dog is not ready, you can still learn a LOT by teaching or assisting. Also in December, Pat led a merry band in a demo in Port Orange as part of public education. For those not competition oriented, these events are a super way to just get you and your dog out to socialize with people who love dogs as much as you do! Besides our new classes starting January 8, January is our AGILITY TRIAL month! Yay OCOD. We'll have a FOUR day trial this year - is anyone exhausted thinking about it? Yes it is a LOT of work, but so much fun once you see the dogs and people enjoying each other whether they get green ribbons or not. If you can get vacation days off, we can use you Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday - one day or all days - any way you can help is greatly appreciated! And what will we be doing for the rest of 2013? Do you want programs at our monthly meetings? Put on by our members, vets, others? Do you want to volunteer for any existing committees? How should we encourage more working members? What about a mentoring program to match new members with old so we're ready to pass the torch if necessary? How about our PROPERTY search? We can do anything - we just can't do everything so bring or email your ideas for the future of our club! Chris Franczek Happy New Year!

Page 2 January 2013 OFFICERS FOR 2013 Were voted on and accepted at the banquet. Club Members Only Pre-Trial Agility Fun Night! In keeping with the tradition begun a couple of years ago, we will host a pre-trial agility fun-night at Silver Sands on Thursday, January 3. All club members who do agility are invited to bring their dogs to run a nested Excellent/Novice course. We will try to have two runs each if time permits. Those who arrive before 6 to help set up and/or stay after to help tear down will pay $5 per dog. Those who opt not to help will pay $10 per dog. Exact change only, please! Dogs must be skilled on all equipment this is not an instruction class. This agility fun-night is a great way to familiarize your dogs with the Silver Sands facility, where the OCOD 2013 Agility Trials will be held on January 25-28, and to have some fun.
